This time we checked out an "Experience" from our local library, which allows free admission. This program is great, and allows you to visit Meadowcroft, plus the Heinz History Center, and the Fort Pitt Museum. In the morning, we explored the visitor center and the Native American Village. We liked throwing the Atlatl, which launches big, spear-like darts at a fake deer target to see if you can get them to stick. Afterwards, we left the site to go have lunch about 15 minutes away, and then did a short hike at Cross Creek Lake, where we saw a historic Truss Bridge from 1881. We came back to Meadowcroft, and climbed the steps to the Rock Shelter. We had seen this before, but we were able to experience some excavation work with the staff and scientists. We saw a recent discovery of a chipped flint that was 3,000 years old. Afterwards, we finished exploring the rest of the property. We liked throwing axes, playing double ball, and some other games. The old museum part was slightly disappointing, as it smelled heavily of mold, and I didn't want to stay in the buildings because of the smell. Neat old coaches and wagons in there, but I saw them before, so we were in and out quickly. Lastly, we did the Historic Covered Bridge (looks like it was re-done recently with new wood), the school, church, blacksmith shop and log cabin. All pretty cool to see. Not too far from Pittsburgh (~1 hr) but the narrow 2 lane rural desolate Google Map route was white…read moreknuckling. All the docents were immersed in their roles. We threw spears and tomahawk. The geologist at the rock shelter was very interesting. There was a guest from Toronto who drove up from Wheeling to visit Meadowcroft. The conference center is still under construction. The bathrooms are open. Lots of stalls that are roomy. The gift shop was a great starting and ending point.

I have visited the borough many times, particularly to eat at its many high-quality restaurants along/near Lincoln Avenue. (My favorite restaurants are WunderBar and Revival on Lincoln. Go there!) The downtown area has old buildings, but they are being fixed up and maintained. Furthermore, I am able to find paid parking for my vehicle along the streets or in lots, and the area has walkable sidewalks and feels safe. I do not live here, but the prices for housing seem to be reasonable for people to afford, and the commute to downtown Pittsburgh would not be far. Amenities include a public library, parks, and swimming pool. The police and fire departments seem to do very good work.

I lived in Dormont until I was about a year-old. My parents rented an apartment here until they…read moremoved into a family-sized home in Brookline once my sister was conceived. Growing up, I always thought there to be something special about this neighborhood, which oddly enough is considered a suburb despite bordering Brookline and Beechview. Consistently a comfortable area,with so many business here, both recently opened and long-running, I think it's becoming even more livable as time goes on. I'll even predict publicly that Dormont will become the next happening area in the coming years. I strongly considered buying a house in Dormont, but the prices kept me at bay. However, failing to deter me from visiting are Eat 'n Park, The Dor-Stop, Sugar Cafe, Amazing Wok, Tom's Diner, Potomac Bakery, Katana, Mekong, Thai Spoon, Knossos Gyros, Cain's Saloon, Molly's, and Campiti's, all of them in unison offering a meal for every palate, budget, or mood. It doesn't matter if you want a hearty breakfast, a good burger, some piping hot pizza, donuts, sushi, dolmades, black sticky rice, wonton soup, pho, cappuccino or simply some excellent bar grub, Dormont has a restaurant to suit your tastes. Dormont also has two competing (warring?) entertainment shops (MIB Ninja and The Exchange are within doors of each other!), a pair of bookstores, and the wonderfully old-fashioned Hollywood Theatre where one can catch a cult-classic B-movie, the latest critically-acclaimed arthouse feature, or witness and possibly participate in the good-hearted debauchery of The Rocky Horror Picture show which runs fortnightly at 12AM sharp on weekends. An awesome, ever-improving neighborhood that is becoming more diverse by the day, Dormont manages to retain its quintessential South Hills coziness despite adjusting with the times. P.S. I like Dormont, my aunt lives here, as a kid she was one of my regular babysitters when my parents…read moreneeded a night out away from me. It's a very clean area with their own fire and police department. Probably the most famous thing in Dormont is the Pool you see when driving along Banksville Road. The houses along Biltmore Ave all look alike, as do most of the houses in the neighborhoods. A really nice business district on Potomac and West Liberty Ave, nice restaurants, nice neighborhood bars, nice people.

The district of Crafton is divided into two sections. Part of it belongs to the city of Pittsburgh…read moreand the other part is the borough itself. The city section is called Crafton Heights. The borough building sits at 100 Stotz Ave which is on a roundabout in the center of the borough. The administrative offices and police department are located there. It encompasses a fairly wide area with a few parks as well as a public pool and playgrounds. One of the things that makes this boro different is that two of the schools are not located in Crafton itself. The school district is called Carlynton (Carnegie, Rosalyn Farms, and Crafton) which is where it gets its name from. Carlynton Jr-Sr High is located in Rosalyn Farms and Carnegie Elementary is on Washington Pike in Carnegie. However, Carlynton's football games and special events such as graduations are held at Honus Wagner stadium right off of Carnegie Elementary. Crafton Borough is an older neighborhood which does not have a lot of room for expansion. The Crafton Ingram shopping Center is currently under renovations. While I frequent it for my daily needs there are not a lot of places I use it for. Since the borough winds a lot you may find yourself in another borough and back in Crafton Borough within a matter of minutes. Their newsletter is online along with trash collection pickup. Taxes to the borough as well as sewage is handled by Jordan Tax service. The community at large is friendly. Each summer they hold an event called "Crafton Celebrates" complete with a parade, food, games, and local entertainment. They hold a summer concert series in Crafton Park in the band "shell." What I like best is that it is convenient to the city and if you want to use the park and ride you can either park your car at Crafton station or head over to Ingram station. Crafton police normally patrol the area but by no means is anything foulproof. Still, it is a nice area to live in and you can be almost at any other point of the city of Pittsburgh within the same amount of time.

The process to get my marriage license was pretty quick and easy. I was most recently there for a PBF promotion ceremony. The mayor was there and the ceremony was nicely done & a great way to honor our city's firefighters. It's a nice historical building with beautiful architecture.

Such an impressive and massive piece of architecture. Opening in 1971 and to this day still the…read moretallest skyscraper in Pittsburgh with 64 floors and a rooftop that is home to a once functioning heliport. My office is in this building and though just on the 16th floor, the views are amazing. The hustle and bustle of this building which houses so many workers could easily be compared to similar skyscrapers in major cities.

The US Steel building is the tallest building in Pittsburgh...It is the fourth tallest building in Pennsylvania (behind Comcast Center....One Liberty Place...and Two Liberty Place all in Philadelphia)....the 37th tallest building in the US.... and the 117th tallest in the world!!!!

Located in The Strip District along Smallman Street in front of The Terminal…read more The new Pittsburgh Walk of Fame is located in downtown at the Strip District right in front of The Terminal shopping center. Very nice inaugural ceremony that included special guest, Batman The Dark Knight!! Aka Michael Keaton. The area of the Strip District was also featured in Jack Reacher the movie from the bar scene. A nice compliment for our local native celebrities. The first class of ten included are, Nellie Bly, Andrew Carnegie, Rachel Carson, Jonas Salk, Andy Warhol, August Wilson, George Benson, Fred Rogers, Roberto Clemente, and Michael Keaton! To get a little more in depth info on each celebrity there is an app available to download. The street was closed from 17th to 21st Street on Smallman Street for the ceremony that lasted about an hour and a half. Slightly overcast day but the sun was still shining. We may not be Hollywood, but we still have our fair share of stars from our city. The stars have a little snippet about the life and career of the celebrity but could use a icon depicting their careers, such as a Projector for Film Star, a TV for a television star, a paint palate for artist, etc. Still a very cool concept for our city. Looking forward to witnessing future stars added along the sidewalk at The Strip District in downtown Pittsburgh. A must stop for tourists and locals alike. Enjoy!!

It's finally here, the first inductees in Pittsburgh's Walk of Fame…read more I'm thrilled that each star represents someone who not only was important to our region and the world, but that they are people of outstanding character. There's just one sports legend honored, and that is Roberto Clemente. It was great to see Fred Rogers, Rachel Carson, Jonas Sall and August Wilson were all included. This is a fun walk, and it's interesting to hear conversations and to take photos.
