The South Shore Bowling Club Limited was founded on the 18th. March 1902, It justly lays claim to being one of the oldest Crown Green Bowling clubs on the Fylde coast. The size of its green, one of the biggest in Lancashire, rivals that of the famed Waterloo. At the time of its inauguration most bowling greens were attached to Public Houses which were considered places of low resort, this was the reason for the South Shore Bowling Club coming into being A number of Blackpool South Shore Business men got together and formed the South Shore Bowling Club Ltd, with an original share capital of £1000. There had long been felt the want of a private subscription bowling green for gentlemen in the South Shore area. They believed that the formation of their Company would meet that need, stated objective of the Company being :- To purchase or otherwise acquire land at South Shore, Blackpool, the County of Lancaster, and to make, form and lay out on the land as acquired a Bowling Green.
