David, your almost annual "good riddance" pieces do nothing to ingratiate you to people like me; after all we absentee homeowners pay for the bulk of services the Town of East Hampton boasts about. These services are, after all, a selling point, aren't they? For your community and for your publication at the very least. Mercenary? You bet. I am writing today, finally, because of the once again obnoxious restaurant review in your paper which I received via email. I will not name the restaurant as they are not at fault. You highlight a restaurant that features $25 burgers not always prepared to order, steaks at $59, guests being passed over for reserved seating for "in" patrons, be they "locals" or the wealthy, etc., etc.. You and anyone else familiar with this once lovely town know exactly what I am referring to. You and your cohort obviously dine at these restaurants as non paying (forgive the vulgarity) "guests"; your readers are, instead, expected to pay the exorbitant prices, often for second rate, though, highly touted by you, fare, often for subpar service. What I find unnerving is that you, as editor of the Star, which is supposed to serve the entire community, including those who can barely pay their bills, regularly genuflex to the owners of these outrageously expensive establishments. You simultaneously do not ever lose the opportunity to vaunt your liberal, dare I say, extreme left values in your opinion pieces. Have you no shame, sir, to quote a well known phrase.

As far a local newspapers go, this is one of the best in the nation - or maybe the world. No…read morekidding. Rarely do you find such smart reporting combined with in-depth coverage of topics of interest to the town. Every issue is a testimony to the values of old-fashioned journalism. But there is a sad story here. Local newspapers are an out-dated business model and people, increasingly, are turning to the gizmo that you are reading this on now - not to mention not reading at all. The East Hampton Star stands for the best in what the media should be - a watchdog of government and the town-crier of events presented with intelligence and artful phrases. So go out and buy the latest issue now - while you can.

This event was nicely laid out, plenty of space for cues at each truck, plenty of seating, plenty of garbage / recycle cans, gorgeous weather, great crowd, no shenanigans, very nice food truck staff (at each one), and absolutely perfect weather. This was their fourth annual and you really get your bang for your buck at this event. My favorite food truck food was Pizza Luca's Filetti Pizza and my favorite food truck aesthetically, was The Hamptons Aristrocrat. Thank you to our fabulous CM Drew and to Yelp - I love you guys. I've had the good fortune to have bombed around a few beach towns over the past couple of years,…read moremostly on the West Coast, but some on the East Coast too. They are fun and generally pretty low key. Unfortunately, if you don't come armed with your own music, the radio in many of these places seems to drift towards "Freebird" and "We Built This City on Rock 'n'Roll". Ugh! I don't mind a yearly dose of Freebird, but that's kind of the end of it for me. Enter WEHM. (http://www.wehm.com/) They call themselves "progressive" which might be a bit optimistic, but they throw in some Cure, X, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, etc. in with their Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, etc. It's definitely a rock station, but a smart one. You won't have to get your plaid shirt and duct taped shorts out any more than your black frock and pancake makeup to listen. They also play just enough new stuff to keep it interesting. One of the things that I always LOVE about these little stations, and by no means is this phenomenon isolated just to small beach towns, is the locally produced commercials. "Hi, I'm Jim, the Car Doctor." "Hi, I'm Rod, the Car Nurse" (Together) "We wanna FIX YOUR CAR" Or whatever. They're always good for a little giggle. WEHM is no exception. They have the surfer dude from the local surf shop giving updates on the tide, etc. Funny stuff. So what, I'm easily amused. If you're on 27E looking for a radio station, you could do a lot worse than this.

The local spots are recorded by many of the business owners themselves and come of as folksy and genuine. If Radio is truly Theater of the Mind than we should all live in Sag Harbor with our WLNG personalities and the local business owners. A large part of the Station's success is ownership that believes in the format, music and personalities. A huge thank you to Bill and Sandra. I have traveled From Connecticut just to say hello and every time I arrive I am greeted with smiling faces and warm embraces. These folks really care about their listeners. In closing, there is no better Radio Station than WLNG 92.1 FM in Sag Harbor NY.
