Doctors are great. Administration is good, but they're handicapped by the insurance system a bit. There's not a lot we can do about it. We have been taking our two boys there since they were very young. My criticisms are nitpicking only of the one doctor we see, but it's based off of my opinion that they're a little too modern in trying to help us suburbanites raise the "perfect children", and not his medical expertise. read more

This was an excellent clinic that I trusted greatly with great doctors. But the covid-19 hit and they lost their ever-loving minds. It's now 2022, the clinic is still pushing a mask onto my face as though those masks are some magical talisman against infection. They are not, they never were. Even the state Public Health Dept. grudgingly gave up on public masking because they finally had to admit there is a reality out there regarding the lack of efficacy of even N95 masks. I only ask that people come back to reality, especially healthcare professionals who ostensibly were trained in scientific inquiry and who ought to be brave enough to stand up to whatever monied interests are still promoting useless masks. read more

Unethical, poor information management, bad doctors who do not care about your children. My child is disabled because of this office, our medical information was withheld and they got in trouble afterwards for the record keeping. I wish they could receive the same kind of medical care they gave our family so they can see how dreadful they are. I also invite them to all of the extra appointments so the might understand how much harder our lives are because of their poor decisions. We always see Doctor Miller, who is amazing! He is silly when appropriate, kind to my child, and always answers my questions without a patronizing attitude. However I wanted to write a review because I saw another provider yesterday, Dr. Hinrichs. The nursing assistant or LPN who took us back to the room seemed rushed and was not very pleasant. I understand it's the end of the day, but it's not hard AT ALL to address me with a warm hello instead of making me feel weird just because she was in a rush or whatever explanation there was for the off behavior. Dr. H was nice, but also seemed rushed, which she probably was... However it would not have taken any additional time to be a little warmer. Also, I'm a nursing student so I understood what she was telling me, but what if someone didn't know what impetigo was? She came off as patronizing. The NA came back and said "here's your note and the card" and walked right out. Not a goodbye, not a thanks for coming in, have a good rest of the day. Seriously, it's not hard. I came in for a brief appointment and felt offended and weird the whole time. Didn't need to happen like that. I'm not high maintenance but I expect to be treated better. There were also crumbled crackers all over the floor. Disappointed and won't see anyone but Dr. Miller now. read more

The doctors and staff are awesome! The doctors and nurses are very thorough and caring. Unfortunately, the billing office is horrible. I am currently waiting for them to take care of a billing error from 9 months ago. I have to call every month, asking why they aren't posting insurance payments or filing to the correct insurance company. read more

The staff at this clinic know NOTHING about customer service. They like putting their patients on hold for extended periods of time (10 mins) and transferring them around (transferred a total of 6 times yesterday). No one seems to want to any any accountability and ownership. The appointment I made for my child two months ago was canceled with only a week's notice. I believe the doctors need to be more sympathetic when working with teens. You need to be careful what you say to them since they are very impressionable during the teenage stage. My son had an appointment yesterday and he's not as tall as he would like to be so the doctors told him he's done growing at 15. I was referred here to a friend and needed to do a same day visit as an unestablished pt. They got my teen daughter in and set up. Everything went smooth and extremely professionally. The front desk staff was nice, the nurse was super nice and personable. The Dr we saw Dr Koch, was awesome! Very impressed, coming from a very bad last pediatrician who had a horrible bedside manner and way with kids. Dr Koch was very pleasant , kind and caring. He was knowledgable, did a thorough questioining and exam and then explained in easy language and gave possibilites and plan. What an amazing difference of care in an excellent way. They are so unorganized and very unfriendly at the check in desk. We've been primarily to the Eden prairie clinic but it's the same at the Edina clinic. I had my son a year ago and I had hit my maximum out of pocket expense but still keep getting a bill from them, I called my insurance and they never ran it through insurance. Now that I've figured this out they won't return phone calls to straighten it out with the clinic. They won't see my son they put us on a hold. I don't know how that's even legal The clinic is pretty disgusting as well the women that work at the front desk are always eating when we've been in as well as they don't make future appointments there you have to call. And they are rude don't ever say hello just look at you. Don't waste your time they are awful! read more

Dr. Tim Anderson is everything you want a pediatrician to be and more! I cried the day we had to leave Southdale Pediatric Burnsville office due to a cross country move. The care we received there for the first 13 years of my childrens' lives was amazing. Dr. Anderson is always thorough, encouraging, very well informed and shares that information with you. I can not recommend this pediatric office enough. They have allergy & asthma facilities on the premise. They offer a walk in strept clinic and late hours. You can almost always get in that day to see someone (may not be your specific physican, but they have all been delightful). The staff is always friendly and kind. The facilites are nice and clean. I miss this office and Dr. Anderson. I am just glad we had such good care for as long as we did. Thank you Southdale Pediatric. read more

Been going here for 6 years with 3 children. Really like the doctors but today I was denied a flu shot for my 7 month old because the BUSINESS office put a hold on my account because they mistyped my address in their system and a statement was returned 10 days ago. Guess what, dragged my baby out in the cold after waiting a month for this appt to be told our children could not receive any medical care until the BUSINESS office cleared it does not sit well with me. Really, I thought they were a medical office but apparently the doctors cannot overturn a BUSINESS office decision at this practice. read more

The doctors are hit and miss here. Dr. Bodine is a fabulous doctor. He truly cares.

I advise all people to avoid lawler as a pediatrician. Our son has a genetic/metabolic condition that prevented him from walking by a 15 months. If lawler had ordered the amino acid screen as she intended, his serious brain injury due to metabolic stroke may have been avoided. In hindsight as I look back at pictures of that time I can see that he was sick prior to his stroke. It is a pediatrician's job to recognize these issues. Lawler did not. I've been a patient of Southdale Peds since my birth (now 22 years old); I do have a primary doctor at the Edina office, but have seen others at the Eden Prairie and Edina offices as well. I have never had a complaint about my care there, never had any problem scheduling appointments or receiving prescriptions. They are incredible doctors, nurses, and lab personnel. I highly recommend them. I do not at all anticipate switching to a primary care (non-pediatric) doctor; and if I have children, wouldn't hesitate to have them taken care of by Southdale Peds. read more

Advice from the doctors is very textbook and antiquated. Babies are individual humans, just like adults, and should be treated as such. Told to give my child baby cereal at 4 mos old (wasn't sitting on his own or showing interest in table food). Was told I wasn't feeding my child enough during the day (to explain why he woke up at night for a feeding). Most recent was an ear infection - after coming in the room 40 mins late, doctor was in there all of 5 mins before saying his ears are "bad" and they're calling in a prescription. No explanation, no time for me to ask questions. I'm still dealing with my poor child's terrible reaction to the amoxicillin. Read the recommendation from the CDC's website. From my experience, doctor did not follow this protocol at all. We are switching to Grow Pediatrics. read more

Our son is permanently disabled because of Southdale Peds. They recommended an amino acid screen, wouldn't put in a reminder in the appointment and refused to perform the test. After he almost died, they withheld his medical records. I want you to know that you made a perfectly nice little boys life a thousand times more difficult. No continuity of care. Daughter is in with positive strep and not better after 4 days. I called and spoke with triage nurse (Jennifer) who would not listen to what I was saying. The call was made at 9am on a Friday and never received call back-- I had to follow up and call back at 4pm (waited 30 min for triage nurse to pick up) then (Jennifer) stated you will need to be seen again by another doctor. Triage is a nightmare. Will be switching clinics. read more

Concurring with the thoughts of many others on here: The physicians here are wonderful, but the nursing staff could not be more condescending and unhelpful. Every time I have called with questions, I am given the run around. The nurses treat parents with complete disdain if they don't understand something or have incorrect information - even if that information was provided by other nurses on staff. My children have been going to this clinic for over ten years, and we love the doctors, but the attitude is just no longer worth it. read more

Dr's are definitely hit or miss. We had to fire Dr. Koch as my son's primary pediatrician after only one appointment (his 2 month). It was obvious Dr. Koch did not even read my son's chart prior to meeting us (or ever). He was born at 26 weeks and for the time, needed a pediatrician with time to give him some extra attention. After having to request routine blood tests to ensure his meds were at the right level and make phone call after phone call looking for results, we were done. Have been seeing Dr. Bodine since who has been absolutely wonderful. Gave us the time and assurance we needed through the first 2 years. Have also seen Dr. Hagen a few times for walk-ins and she is wonderful as well. read more

After 13 years taking my kids there, a nurse misrepresented a service, saying if I had insurance, I'd be fine having my daughter's wart removed. She was wrong. BCBS didn't cover and southdale peds wouldn't reduce or waive the fee despite the nurse's assurance that this type of thing is standard. No accountability or willingness to reduce the fee. I am so glad I bring my kids to southdale peds.. everywhere you go you will have issues.. but overall this place is awesome.. the rooming staff is always friendly and the front desk knows us by name. we never have to leave the room to go to the lab.. the lab comes to our room and gives shots and draws blood right there. they are very skilled at what they do! Drawing blood on a newborn is very hard, and I am so impressed with the lab and all they have to do. I can only imagine how stressful that would be! so convenient fast and friendly! read more

These doctors in the Burnsville location pushed my wife to tears and me to incredible frustration with their misdiagnosis in essentially forcing a breathing treatment with Albuterol (for asthma) that I knew was not right for our son who had strep and borderline pneumonia. He had mucus in his lungs and swollen tonsils and enlarged adnoids. We needed to get him an antibiotic as soon as possible but the doctor's kept pushing for the Albuterol. I say doctors because a second doctor who had tried to force a breathing treatment in the past came in to encourage the Albuterol. The time before she had them draw blood from his pinky toe (not a finger) to try and prove that his oxygen level was low. It came back good. I got the antibiotic we needed to get him better and we got out of there. This time, I did not see the first oxygen test but they told us his oxygen level was 91, when they ran the test again in front of me, it was 96 & 97. They still kept pushing for their nebulizer and the Albuterol. Since the doctor knew my wife agreed, he gave me this mother's intuition talk about how he never goes against his wife's opinion. Eventually, my wife agreed to expose our son to Albuterol without my support. Even though he was clearly worse after the treatment, the doctor said he thought he sounded a little better. It was ridiculous. We bought the nebulizer and picked up the prescription of Albuterol so the doctors can get their kick backs from the medical device manufacturer and the drug company. Our son, who had never shown any signs of asthma started whooping with some breaths. We headed straight for the ER at Children's in St. Paul. On our way he clinched his fist from the struggle to breathe. Thank God he came through and settled back into his normal loud breathing in the ER. The ER doctor gave us a new prescription for the right antibiotic to treat his symptoms. She also checked his lungs and found no wheezing. He's doing much better now. We made an appointment to have his tonsils and adenoids removed. They may have some doctors who are okay but my experiences have been awful. read more
