Such a hugeeee place! I went to play sand volleyball and they had multiple courts and their sand is a unique texture and that makes it easier to run across due to its thickness. They had all sorts of games going on all at once such as baseball, pickleball, and even a playground. Update: The workout classes here are still really good, but since Covid it seems like they offer less options. They only have childcare M-F in the morning or Monday evening. I haven't seen Pound on their calendar for months, but they've added some other options that are appealing. Now that I have little ones I've visited Noah's Ark inside the fitness center. It is perfect for little ones to run off energy! There are so many things to keep them occupied. The church service is great and there are amazing leaders that teach God's Word in a way that is easy to understand. I used to kind of scoff at Southeast Christian Church, seeing it as way too big, generic, impersonal and lavish. Then, I gave them a chance and began to occasionally attend. My heart and mind have never been changed like this over a church, and I encourage you to give them the same chance. Yes, they have tremendous resources, but they're totally debt free. The amount of resources they provide for FREE to anyone (you generally don't have to be a member for any of it) is mind-boggling. They work with groups that are often forgotten or too uncomfortable to confront, such as women who have been trafficked. They're bringing great attention to complex problems that churches often avoid, but they also cover the challenges and opportunities we face daily. One of my favorite things that Southeast pastors do so well is calling people to act. A powerful message is great, but it's only potential until you put it into action. This is what I'd love to see all churches do better, to help make more of an impact on communities. The sermons are well thought out, backed up by scripture and original translations or cross references translations to corroborate the intent of the Word. I've attended a Saturday morning men's group, that is free and offers coffee and donuts and it has just been fantastic. There's a lot of good that they do here, they're very inclusive, and I would encourage anyone who has been thinking about it, or interested in a church, to give Southeast a try. I was a member of this church for several years. And as long as I didn't question their patriarchal leadership or their homophobic and transphobic theology, I fit right in. But this is not an affirming/inclusive church for LGBTQ people and the people who love LGBTQ people and want to be our allies. There are lots of affirming churches in Louisville that you can check out though, including one that's practically right across the street from their main campus! read more

This is a megachurch. Though surprisingly, for its size, it is still able to make people feel welcome. Ushers and other volunteers greet you enthusiastically and genuinely as you arrive for service. if there is time before or after service, you can lounge in the café, browse the bookstore or sit in the large "gathering area" to watch and talk to other parishioners. Wonderful, teaching pastors with a large congregation. A small band plays contemporary Christian music for the services. I only have attended the services at the Blankenbaker campus, so I cannot attest to the services at the other 3 locations. There us a calm aura in the sanctuary before, during and after the services. While I enjoy contemporary Christian music, I prefer gospel so the music is not my forte; however, I thoroughly enjoy the message. It normally hits home, teaches, informs and inspires. I went here once for a relatives baptism. All I can say is I got a strange culty feeling from the community. This seems to be one of those mega churches you hear about on the news. One aspect I felt was off putting, was the fact that there are gift shops inside the church, which I'm pretty sure is one of the only things Jesus got mad at in the Bible. It just seems like this church cares about being flashy and spending exorbitant amounts of money on their massive buildings. If you are looking for a humble church with a real sense of community, I wouldn't recommend this. read more

Giving organized religion a bad name since 1962. Negative 1 million stars. Sure, you can accuse me of longstanding resentment for getting kicked out during my adolescent years. (I penned a letter to the Grand Leader suggesting that perhaps his diatribe against homosexuality during one sermon was really not was Christianity was about. The response: I was offered the opportunity to recant, accept Southeast's perspective, and declare it an abominable sin, or my membership would be terminated. I chose the latter.) Driving past the compound on I-64, it is easy to see why Southeast is known for its ostentatious grounds. After all, almost 20,000 people attend on a weekly basis, and it's the 6th largest church in the U.S. Locally, it's referred to as "Six Flags Over Jesus"; between the gargantuan, shimmering buildings and the acres of parking, you wonder where the roller coaster is. I also wonder how people keep track of parking: "Oh, I'm in Abraham 4." "Oh, I'm on the other side in Saul." The other moniker for SECC is "Southeast Country Club": both the mentality and the landscaping are more suitable for a country club, and your dues--I mean, your tithing--keep you in good graces. Unfortunately, you'll have to go to the country club for the actual golf course, but in the meantime, SECC has a fully equipped gym with indoor running track, plus their own manicured softball and baseball fields for all your activity needs. The interiors are just as extravagant. The one time I have been inside, I went to the information desk: "Excuse me, where is the food court?" I was directed to a caf (!) Obviously, the designers were looking for that mall ambiance, and they succeeded. The place where the sermonizing happens can only properly be referred to as an arena--although there are more Jumbotrons at Southeast than at any sports arena I've patronized. There is another giant building solely for the youth ministry, so they can be brainwashed separately. Women are not allowed to hold positions of real authority in the church (aside from volunteering in the nursery.) She-devils are not allowed to disburse communion with their period-filthy hands, nor are they trusted to distribute and collect the offering plates. They sure as hell can't preach. Following I Corinthians 14:34-35: "Let your women keep silence in the churches; for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law." Touching. Southeast is also notorious for meddling with local politics. Heaven forbid a candidate support the Fairness Campaign or any other organization that supports THEM HOMERSECKSHULS. Right around election time, dead fetuses reign supreme on the pages of their newspaper. Yes, they have their own newspaper. I'm betting you can guess what kind of spin they put on stories about stem cell research, environmental issues, and the work of anyone vaguely affiliated with a liberal cause. Oh, and as for their contributions to the arts? Currently, they are filming their Easter pageant. In high-def. At a cost of $1.75 MILLION DOLLARS. Yep, sounds like just what Jesus would have wanted. read more

This is a wonderful church and place to worship God & study His Word. The previous commentator (Mary R.) said she was only their once, so I don't know how she can make any realistic, objective conclusions about the place! I will say I've been there probably 20 times since January 2013 AND the key is getting plugged into one of their small study groups on Wednesday or Thursday. I was in an adult singles class on Wednesday, but recently I've joined another group on Wednesdays that is looking at the Harmony of the Gospels. The leader of the group has many enlightening comments that make sense out of confusing passages. On Thursdays they have a Men's Group called "Man Challenge" & it has helped my end my addiction (yes, I call it addiction. Others may call it obsession) with Pornography! PRAISE THE LORD!!! Don't expect any "Feel Good" sermons. Homosexuality is a sin, as is adultery & fornication & God will not tolerate sin. Remember: Jesus loves the sinner, BUT he hates the sin they commit. Southeast can be very intimidating at the beginning because of its size. I have been attending for a few weeks now and I can confidently say that it quickly becomes more of a small church environment. Sitting in the same area or joining a group that meets outside of the main service, helps introduce you to people that are so kind and welcoming. I haven't felt insignificant or forgotten any of the times I've attended. People always say hello and tell you good morning (depending on what time of day you attend). I'm so looking forward to my first Christmas at SECC and I'm sure it will be one to remember read more

Ah yes! South east CHRISTIAN church! Where the campus is bigger than oxmoore mall! But, the prices are about the same! For about $9 you can get a cappuccino and a muffin! That's right folks, you can purchase bake goods & coffee right here, inside this church! They are not as good as say Starbucks or Granny's Nookie & Cookie! The service is very slow and the lines are long. However, once you get your snacks, you can sit on a couch and consume your baked goods while you comfortably watch Church on a television screen the size of those at a sports stadium! Ah yes, south east CHRISTIAN church! Where the Traffic controllers are verbally and physically abusive and will chase your vehicle down in the middle of the highway, on foot and then verbally and physically assault you by yelling and screaming in your face! And they won't care if your children are in your car while they do it either! Yes, that happened to me one Saturday this April! Ah yes, South East Christian church! Again, there is a coffee and pastry shop inside the church! A shop! In a church! If I remember correctly, Jesus Christ went nuts and threw a tantrum when he saw the merchants doing business in the church! Turning over their merchant tables! Whipping the merchants and chasing them out! Do they read the Bible here? Anyway, this place reminds me more of a mall or a flee market than a church! Especially when you walk out the front entrance through the crowd of cigarette smokers! GAG! Smells like a giant ash tray out there! And the smoke is so thick it's like fog! Only smelly fog! Back in 2010, a co-worker and a friend of mine attended here. The church I had attended changed pastors and I wasn't a big fan of the new guy. The Pastor, Dr. Platt that retired, was a true man of God. He would shake every single hand in that church. He didn't care if you made $10,000 or $1,000,000. Anyways, my buddy told me to try out Southeast Christian. I was skeptical because it was a "mega church". But the church started years ago with a handful of members. I went to a few services and joined. Even joined some programs like helping kids that weren't reading up to their grade level. I enjoyed it. Every Sunday I got there normally with 15 minutes to spare and had to take whatever seats were left, normally up high. One Sunday I woke up extra early. Got there early to be close to the stage. There were "VIP" seats. I asked an usher why. He explained they were for major donors. Mmm. Donate more you get VIP seats. Can't recall Jesus preaching this. Shame on these people and "religious" leaders. That was my last time attending church service. read more

After seeing a couple of questionable reviews about SEC, I resolved to stand back and note carefully how I was treated and the general culture of the church while I was there. I am glad to say that I received nothing but warm welcome, kindness, and a spirit of going the extra mile. I was at a conference at the church. They even found someone to host a young lady who had no place to stay at the last minute, for a whole week! She was treated like a valued guest. The worship service was wonderful, sincere and humbly worshipful. As for those who have posted negatively, it seems, perhaps, that you have to have snark as your profession to be considered a featured reviewer from Yelp, because most positive reviews were buried in the non-featured area. Interesting. Those who go to SEC to worship God and learn to follow Him will get something from what SEC has to offer. Those who go to criticize will inevitably find something to be critical of, as they will everywhere else they go. read more

When you go to this church, you're literally walking onto a campus that would rival any university campus. This is the biggest church I've ever been to bar none. This has been my church home for a long time now. I discovered my relationship with Jesus here. Some of the reviews just contain inaccurate information. There has never been a Dr. Platt as a pastor. There are no VIP seats. Pastors aren't privy to the tithing records of the members. Anyone can sit anywhere they want unless the seat is reserved for handicapped visitors or an end seat for an usher who is up and down during the service assisting with various tasks. God is here. We recently moved from WA state and have just joined Southeast as our home church. We have never attended a "mega" church before but I can honestly say I have never felt so welcomed into a church. It does help to get involved in some sort of group. My husband and I are in different Bible Studies, a small group together, a Sunday School class, plus services. Right away we were able to meet new friends and felt comfortable. My children love this church and hate missing a Sunday due to illness. Christians are not a One-Size-Fits-All. Some of them are Amazing people who really let love shine through their words and actions. Some of them are Crazy, strict, can't see the imporatant issues through their "laws". And then there are ones like me. Sinners, sometimes hypocritical, sometimes fully accepting, but usually seeing the err in their ways (sometimes days {or months/years} later. The point is, we are all trying to make it in this world and some of us chose to do their best to follow the teachings of a benevolent being who let us know that LOVE is the most important thing we can do for one another while on this planet. I dont always measure up, (same for most Christians or non-christians - admit it or not) but that just means that I need to keep working at it. And Southeast Christian offers me weekly sermons - or workshops if you would like to think of it that way- to help me understand how to be a better person, a better, more loving, forgiving, growing, helping, caring person. Oh and it you want to check out a sermon on your own turf, just turn on your TV on Sunday at 10:30. I have attended Southeast Christian Church for many years and have tithed most years. Now I find myself in a desperate situation as a single parent who lost a good paying job due to cut-backs. I called the church today and asked if they could possibly help me so that I do not lose my home. I need $500.00 (much less than what I tithed last year alone). I offered to pay it back if they would just loan me the money since my credit is shot (thanks to my recent divorce) and I cannot get a loan. My savings is wiped out and I applied to many jobs to no avail (even applied to retail positions and restaurants but was turned down as I am "over qualified"). Since I am not a member and "there is great need in our community", they (entire Southeast Christian Church) have "decided to only help people who are official members of the church". This is in no way biblical. In case you do not believe me, try it....Call the church and beg or simply ask for help. I live within walking distance of the church and I will never step foot on that property again nor will they ever receive a penny from me ever again!!! I enjoy going to this Contemporary Christian church. It is a mega church; however, if you attend regularly and sit in the same section, then you get to know the people around you. I appreciate and connect with the music so intimately, that I cry while listening, and am convicted by the message that is taught by both peachers: Dave Stone and Kyle Idleman. They preach biblical messages, which some people don't appreciate, but I love that I am convicted every single Sunday! read more

The mission of SCC is to: "Connect people to Jesus and one another." This body of Christ followers strives to do just that. Certainly, they are not perfect, but no Christian or collection of Christians is. What I've experienced at SCC is a genuine reflection of the Acts 2 church. It is a place where people from all walks of life are equally welcome to come and hear the good news of a rescue from the consequences of our "uns": our unholiness, unrighteousness, unworthiness, uncleanness, etc. Certainly, there are those who look like they're very much in control of life and those who look adrift, whether living the facade or in genuine despair, both are as welcome as torn blue jeans or a coat and tie. Both (and everyone in between) are invited to come and see this Jesus Christ, the depth of his grace and mercy, and to be transformed by the gift of His Spirit. Even those who are full of vitriol and negativity are invited to come in, after all that's what Jesus would have done. read more

I'm only able to give this church 4 stars because I have only been attending for a about a month now, and I've only lived in the area for just over a month. So, I am still getting to know the church, and the community at Southeast. The sermons have been really wonderful. The pastors switch off giving sermons each week, and it's great to hear different styles. They always preach from the bible. And after sermons, there is an opportunity to meet/talk with the pastor. It is a mega-church, and it's my first experience attending a mega church. It's different in that people won't just come up and say hello to you because they won't know if you're new or not. So, my husband and I joined a small group. We didn't fit in great the first group, but then we tried another, and seem to fit in really well. Additionally, I joined a women's ministry group, and these ladies are amazing! Even though some do not attend Southeast Church services, they were welcomed into the small group, which I think says a lot about the focus of this ministry. They really want people to connect with each other and Jesus, whether or not they'll be patronizing the church. I have not seen the fitness center yet, but I'm so excited that I will be able to meet other Christians while working out. And I'm excited by all that Southeast does in the community. By the grace of God, they are really doing amazing things in the greater Louisville area, and I hope to get more involved in their work. I'd recommend stopping by and checking it out (9:00 am or 11:15am on Sundays--There are also Sat night services). Mega-churches aren't for everyone, but I really enjoy it so far. read more

While I'm Not surprised by the lousy reviews when you preach truth you're gonna catch some flack. When sinners run a church unfortunately things are gonna get botched. I am surprised by the lack of positive ones. Southeast has overwhelmingly supported so many local ministries and church's in Louisville, sponsored several missionaries over seas(some of whom I'm personally acquainted), facilitated and made available countless opportunities for education, not to mention how SE has brought countless individuals together through their events and the resources they've made available at their campus's. I've been attending SE regularly for 3-4 years with my family and have found it to be a church where teaching biblical truth prevails above all in the sermons along. A church that is relentless in its pursuit to show, teach, nurture Christ's unconditional love of his children. The kids programming is awesome too. I volunteer with the Pre-k kids and have found the curriculum to always point to Jesus our savior the son of God and God our father. And yes the Holy Spirit gets some air time too. I really love this church and am thankful for the opportunity to attend and serve here. I will certainly mourn the loss of our home here at SE as our family transitions down to Nashville in the upcoming years. read more

As a member of this church since 2001 I feel qualified to give an honest and accurate (albeit not as funny as the first review) opinion of this church. I'll be the first to say I love homosexuals. Some of my best friends are gay, and I don't really care who they sleep with in the same way I don't care who my straight friends sleep with. I care about THEM, not what they do, and I want them to feel the same way towards me and my many transgressions. And believe it or not, I learned this from Southeast Christian Church preachers, all though many anti Southeast people would want you to believe otherwise. "Love the sinner not the sin." "All sins are equal in the eyes of the Lord." These things I've learned at that church. I was counseled through a divorce, have had friends counseled through addictions, and never seen someone treated with anything other than love. The church is huge and can be off putting if you like smaller groups. It is comfortable to me and I love the messages every single week. I don't tithe to the church, because I am unfortunately unable to do so, but they still let me in the doors! Surprise, surprise! I've never heard someone say a bad word about someone else, and have met a lot of caring and genuine people. I can wear jeans and see other people wearing jeans, and no one really cares what you're wearing. I, for one, didn't get that in my small church I attended before. I love the church, not because of, or in spite of, the size, decorating , women's roles, etc., but because I feel love and accepted there and most importantly I learn about God and grow in my spirituality. read more

All outreach ministries that while may seem extreme, they wonderfully reach extreme amounts of people to teach them about Jesus. Sure the massive building can be shocking at first, and even overwhelming , But focus in on Whats Important. look around that room at all the people who hearts and desires are all pointed in the same sacred direction, at least to one compacity or another.
