Southern Angel Donuts: Located in the heart of Pinehurst, NC, Southern Angel Donuts serves all of Moore County using old world recipes and hand formed techniques. The shop offers a plethora of interesting flavors, but seeing as I had a lot of food to try while visiting the area, I kept it to one. Peanut butter is a relatively unique flavor and one of my favorites from other doughnut shops that I've visited. I thought the texture of this yeast doughnut was exemplary as it was airy with a nice amount of chewiness. The dough itself had a nice buttery flavor, but I know what you all care about is that peanut butter frosting. That's where things begin to go a bit south as the peanut butter frosting was good, but just too mild of a flavor. A suggestion I have based on some of the best doughnut shops in the country that I've encountered would be filling the doughnut with a peanut butter frosting. That would definitely take this doughnut to the next level. It was still a nice dessert to have with my breakfast and for the price wasn't bad. 5 stars (before 12pm) -- This is undoubtedly the best donut shop in Moore county. My absolute kryptonite ..I never leave Pinehurst without having at least a dozen. Southern Angels has an incredible variety of every flavor you could think of, but my personal favorite is just the original glazed. (This is how you know they're good). Their only downside is for the majority of the time, their inventory is very cleared out by late morning (as they should be). However, their management is good about pre-packaging assorted dozens and glazed donuts for late afternoon customers. 10/10 read more

We're from Richmond where there's some pretty stiff donut competition, but we were pleasantly surprised to find this little shop near our parents' house. All of our filled donuts were pleasantly stuffed, and we really appreciated their donut recipe. I will pretty much eat any donut that crosses my path but that doesn't mean I can't tell the difference between a so-so donut and a great donut. And this place sells so-so donuts. The dough is a little bit on the denser side for a yeast donut, and there's an odd aftertaste. Will I still go here if I'm suddenly hit with a donut craving? Maybe. We were visiting from out of town and just found this place by accident. Best accident ever ! We tried 6 different kinds of donuts and they were all great. This new donut shop should get 5 stars for amazing and fresh donuts... but the customer service was odd. Typically when a new business opens they are warm and welcoming, especially in Pinehurst. This morning that vibe was not there. Instead of saying "hello" or "welcome!" I was greeted with a "how many donuts do you want?" ... with out enthusiasm or eye contact. It was just very weird. Moved to the area a few months back and was pleased to fine such a great donut shop nearby! My wife and I especially love the maple frosted donuts , and glazed donut holes . This place is simply amazing. We stopped by after hearing about it. It was late in the afternoon on Christmas Eve. They only had a dozen plus but we were only interested in one each. The customer service person just gave us two and wished us a Merry Christmas. We walked outside and took one bite and were absolutely in awe.
