My advice is not to get your dental needs done here. They cancel their appointment on you. And don't notify you until you get there only to have to leave. They send you bills to pay more. No one answers the phone in the building even though they have people in the building working. You have to drive up to the building to speak with someone. Used to be a great place for dental needs. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND THEY DON'T VALUE YOUR TIME!!! I have had way too many incidents where appointments were made in office by the staff members who manage the calendars, and they will cancel your appointment at the last minute or schedule you on days that they are not even open and then play stupid like you are the one who's crazy. Case in point the most recent appt I booked in office after my procedure a whole month in advance. I get to the office for my scheduled appt and the door is locked by the staff member is sitting in the office. I respect the fact that I'm 20 mins early and maybe they are out to lunch but when my appt time came the door was still locked and the employee vanished to the back of the office. I waited and additional 20 mins and then I started knocking on the door because by now I'm pissed that no one came to the door initially and definitely having me wait in this TEXAS HEAT for 40 whole mins. Then the staff member comes to the door casually like yes how can I help you? I say hello, I've been outside for 40 mins waiting for the door to be unlocked and I know you saw me earlier I have a 1pm appt for today. She plays crazy like any appointment and then says we are closed today. She then proceeds to tell me that they are not allowed to open the front door when they are the only one on duty. Make it make sense that you have a patient scheduled for a day and time that the "office is closed" and you can't open the door but 40 mins later you open it to lie!!! How unprofessional. This has happened one time too many and I'm done. I'll take my business somewhere it is appreciated and respected. You don't get the chance to keep making the same mistakes and not even apologizing for your mistake but trying to play it off like the customer is crazy! Then not one time did she offer to reschedule my appt for another day since it was their mistake to begin with. It's a workday, if I make an appt during the week I'm moving my workday around to accommodate the appt. Don't go to this place seriously! I'm going to keep short and simple. Not even sure why i'm wasting my time writing about this. 1. Waited forever (1 hour) - why are we even making an appointment?. Filled the new patient application form online, when i got there, they made me fill out another one because they couldn't find the one I filled out online. WTF? 2. Went in there to replace a crown cap that fell out, don't mind paying for a new one. But, they advised I needed a deep clean. Okay fine. But, during the X-Ray they started giving me other x-rays to look for cancer. Charged me $15 extra bucks for that. That was the 1st for me. 3. They wouldn't give me the pricing for what I originally went there for lol. Basically told me i need to pay $313 for deep clean out of pocket. My insurance usually pays for the full amount because it's 100% covered. I'm shocked, told them to send the breakdown to my insurance company and they wouldn't do it or refused. Now i'm like WTF okay SCAM! 4. This place should be shut down. Dirty, ghetto people working in the front. And SCAM dentist, if they are even that. Haha please try to avoid. Honestly the worst service I have received from a dental office. I have given this office ample opportunity to provide my family with The basic service and the have failed each time. Each visit we have waited over 1.5 hours past our scheduled appointment. Poor customer service from the office staff. After waiting 1.5 hours today for a dental cleaning. I was told that I have one more hour to wait to be seen by the hygienist. The office Manager, Anissa, was rude and unwilling to help. When asked when to make an appointment that would be "on time" she said the average wait is 2 hours for service. Completely unacceptable. I will never recommend this office. read more

Yesterday I arrive on time at the dentist at 2 pm. At 2:45 they had me fill out 1 piece of paper (new patient form). At 3:15 they called me back for x-rays. At 4:17p I was tired of waiting and walked out. They didn't do any work and I never checked out but I find it interesting that no one from Southern Dental has called to ask what happened. Very friendly staff however their speed of service, office noise pollution and my lack of patience does not go hand in hand. read more

My feelings are a bit mixed about this place. I've had dental work here since 2005. I had Dr. Sylvia Culver as my general dentist, but she left and opened her own practice. I also had ortho work done by Dr. Marmentini who is still there. I've been putting off finding another good dentist in-network. This may change though due to my recent visits. Some experiences were fine while others left me disappointed. I'm only going to discuss my most recent experience this month. I had a root canal done with a specialist outside of Southern Dental. After a root canal is complete you have to go see your general dentist to seal it off with a crown so that's what I did. One positive about SD is that they are open on Saturday and stay open until 6pm throughout the weekday. I have a toddler and newborn so this is very accommodating for me right now. I scheduled a Saturday appt online. Then SD called to let me know that the dentist I requested is out on vacation for a whole month. Why not update this info on the website so patients will be aware when making an appt? They informed me that there is a temporary dentist available, Dr. Hayre. I wasn't sure what this meant, so I asked if it was a SD dentist from another location and she responded yes. I still kept my appt being that all the other Saturdays with a dentist there were booked and I didn't want to delay the crowning process and risk my tooth getting infected again. I arrived for my 11am appt and waited 1 hour to be seen!! Why make appts if you can't honor it. I understand a 15min wait but 1 hour?!?!! C'mon! The front staff never checked on me or informed me about the wait until I asked. She explained that there is only one doctor and assistant working today so they're running behind. Then don't schedule so many people or in such close appt times is what I thought. I finally get back there at 12pm. Dr. Hayre saw me then had me get an X-ray to provide a more accurate consultation. Come to find out, she isn't even a SD dentist. She is on contract outside of SD. What the?!? I was told different by their staff. Anyways, she recommended I get a new crown so I agreed and decided to begin the procedure that day. Let's talk about the procedure. Since she was an outside doctor, she was unfamiliar with the office, protocol, and location of everything. Let me tell you, it's pretty nerve wracking to sit there and hear her seem a bit clueless. She and the assistant, LuLu, were so rough on me. They pulled my mouth left and right so hard that the corner of my mouth was cracked, red, and sore afterward. I had to keep applying Vaseline on it to get better. LuLu failed to suction the water out of my mouth and back of my throat enough that I nearly choked on it a few times. I had to gargle it for her to noticed that I needed suction! This has never happened to me at any dental visits. I was there for a total of 4 hours!!! I was the last patient to leave. I'm pretty good with getting dental procedures done but having an experience like this makes me not want to return and do anything with my teeth again. Now I wait and dread going back for my permanent crown. I'll be seeing a SD dentist so hopefully it will be better this time around. I gave this place 3 stars instead of something lower because I'm taking into consideration my history with them. However, I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

I went for an appointment this week. This was my son's second time, and my actual first time. I decided to switch after going to another dental practice who performed two root canals and told me I needed to have my wisdom teeth pulled out; the former dental office also told me I needed a bridge that would cost approximately $4-6k with my insurance. At this office, I saw Dr. Khan who told me everything looked fine. I don't need a bridge or even fillings. I don't have issues with my teeth! Just need regular check up, and she confirmed that. I was seen approximately 30-45 minutes after my appointment time, and that's because I asked to be with my son at all times. Which they accommodated. The dental hygienist remembered my son from the first time, 8 months ago. The tech performing the x-rays was very nice, as well as the front office staff. I would recommend them. read more

My daughter has been going to this office for her braces and the service is terrible. After prepayment for the braces on the final appointment to have the braces removed after waiting 30 minutes they call me up to tell me insurance rejected the claim and I need to pay them $1,600 or they won't remove her braces. I asked why wouldn't they call before the appointment if there was an issue or why make me wait 30 minutes just to tell me they won't honor the appointment without $1,600 payment. They just told me the person that does insurance accounting is on maternity leave. How is this my problem? They are extremely disorganized and full of excuses why they can't do the right thing. read more

This is my first time here, and I had White as my doctor. I really like her enthusiasm and her bedside manners. She's very informative and helped ease a lot of my concerns. The front desk people need a little work on the friendly factor, but they're not rude... just smile I guess. My hygienist is really funny and nice too. They hire young dentists who come and go. Most of the time they're fine, but I had to have a crown put on and the young dentist nicked my tongue each time she worked on me! Quite painful. She blamed it on my mouth being small but I've had lots of dental work done and have never had anyone nick my tongue! Then a week after getting the permanent crown on, it fell off! When I called, the office staff didn't say I'm sorry, they just asked what I was eating, as if it was my fault. When I let them know that I didn't want that dentist, they started to give me a hard time. So I went to another dentist, in a one man office, that had lots of experience. I had to pay for a new crown on my own ($700) but it was worth it not to get tortured again read more

After an hour I asked how much longer i had to wait and they said 15 minutes. Then another patient walked in and after they waited 5 minutes they got taken to xray room. I asked the lady at the front what the deal was and she said she didn't know. They are unorganized and I wouldn't trust them with my dental work if they can't even get their front office admin together. Pathetic excuse for a dental office. Like many people have said before me, if I could give this place ZERO stars, I would. I reluctantly chose this office due to a change in my insurance and the convenient location close to my office. I made the appointment online and received the email confirmation. I attempted to fill out the new patient paperwork online, but the system wasn't working and nothing would save or go through. The office called me the day before the visit to confirm my appointment. And then called 2 more times to confirm. I assured them I would be there! I then received another call to verify my insurance and was asked to come in 10 minutes early to fill out paperwork (the same paperwork I tried to fill out online). I arrived early and was greeted by the receptionist wearing a camo jacket with BUCKED UP written in hot pink - super professional. I filled out the paperwork and waited to be called back. The TV in the lobby was on super loud and I was the only person in there. I heard the 2 girls at the front discussing some office drama and they decided to turn up the volume so I couldn't hear - so polite! There was no decor - just plain white walls with some wires hanging out here and there. I was brought back for X-rays but I explained that I had X-rays taken 6 months earlier at my previous dentist office. They asked if I had them with me and I said that I had provided my dentist's information for them to request any files. I waited in the lobby while they called the dentist and had the X-rays sent over. Even after that, I was told that their office requires X-rays every 6 months and the dentist wouldn't see me without them. I've never had to do X-rays more than once a year. I was assured my insurance covered it and agreed. The technician seemed scattered and was running all over the place, tripping over wires. I had to retake several of the X-rays. I was then brought back into the office where I assumed the hygienist would clean my teeth. The X-ray tech brought in an assistant to do a gum test - I've never had to do this prior to a cleaning. She explained that I had a few trouble spots and that this required a 2-part gingival irrigation. Again, something I've never heard of or had to do. I should mention that aside from a few fillings when I was a child, I've never had problems with my teeth. I thought after that they would start the cleaning, but NOPE! The dentist came in to review the X-rays. She pointed out a few dark spots (I had bonding done years ago) and then examined my teeth. After a few seconds, she determined I would need 2 fillings. What?! You haven't even cleaned my teeth. Typically, a dentist would monitor the teeth for another 6 months before suggesting a filling. I was then brought back to the lobby to wait to speak with the insurance person. After what seemed like forever, I was brought back and given an estimate for over $1800!! All I wanted was a cleaning! Basically everything they "recommended" was not covered by my insurance. I even looked up the codes afterward and it's like they chose the more expensive option for every procedure. They said they could even start today - lucky me! I told her absolutely not and walked out. This place is a scam and taking advantage of their patients. I warned everyone in my office to avoid this "dentist." After over an hour and a half, I never got my teeth cleaned. Terrible experience. DO NOT GO HERE!! read more

I've never been in the "care" of the most unprofessional dentist and well just the dentist in my LIFE. IM STILL in so much pain! One person, the dentist, shaved down my tooth, did a root canal, stopped in between to take care of other patients, the computers weren't working for X-rays, I kept having to get up to go to another room to take x-rays while tools were in my mouth. I was told to not bite down on the tools but to bite down on the object they put in your mouth to take the x-ray! It was impossible! I was so dumbfounded and confused and honestly scared. she was dropping tools in the middle of my procedure and then asked someone who worked upfront to take 6 separate impressions to get a temporary crown put on my tooth! He had never done that before, hence the six different tries, and she was teaching him as she was working with another patient how to do it! It was awful. I have cuts all over my mouth and the pain is still unbearable. I had to suction myself with the tool and half the time I didn't want to mess her up so I was gargling/coughing/choking on the water they use to clean the tooth of remnants and blood off during a root canal. That's the main point of having two people there. To suction for the dentist and hand her tools! She stopped the procedure countless times looking for a tool she couldn't find that apparently she really needed for my procedure or else I'm sure any sane dentist wouldn't leave me holding the tools that were in my mouth in place while she ran around for 30 minutes give or take while I'm sitting in the chair with tears just streaming down my eyes. When she finally had time to break away from other patients during my root canal procedure she was able to finish the root canal and finally after 4 1/2 hours later make a temporary crown. She said I was done, I went to the bathroom and saw blood all over my face, neck, and shirt. There was impression paste that I was swallowing from all the miss tries of a temporary! I pulled out globs of it out of my mouth in the bathroom. It took me 20 minutes to get everything out of my mouth that wasn't supposed to be in there, wash my mouth out, because she left without doing that, and wipe the mascara off my face from crying. I am absolutely devastated I have to go back there for a crown that she ordered that I already paid for. read more

Dr. White has been with me for years she is as awesome as possible. The rest of the staff there is fairly new.. their turnover rate has to be 99%... the 1% is Dr. White. The front desk staff is very incompetent. They cant read, communicate, or understand billing. I think this company need to train their front desk staff on customer service and billing. read more

I went to this office for about 10 years. It was always a little dated but they never tried to upsell me. They took my cheap Safeguard dental plan. When I moved to Austin I tried a couple new places but both tried to sell me deep cleans, soniccare toothbrushes etc so I drove into Houston just to go here. Then I heard they were sold to new owners. I went in a month ago. I've never had a single cavity and still don't and the dentist said everything looked great but the gum poking ny the hygienist resulted in them making me sign multiple forms about gum disease, they then led me back to a lady at a desk who simply shoved a paper in front of me detailing "my treatment" which was going to cost $270 something. I reluctantly agreed to the gingival cleaning which wasnt that significant and then was told I would need to come back in a month for a regular clean. I was given special toothpaste and mouthwash...$50 each hidden in the treatment plan they didnt explain and was told I needed to come in for cleanings every 3 months now. Needless to say they have lost me forever. read more

Upon setting my appointment with the oral surgeon they told me they would call and get my x-rays and referral from Southern Dental. A week later and 6 phone calls later Southern Dental has still not sent them my x-rays or referral letter! How hard is it to send a simple email?? Now that I know what it's like to have a great experience with a dental office. I can clearly tell you how HORRIBLE of a place Southern Dental is. I paid $5,000 upfront to the Willowbrook office when they told me that this would cover all of the dental work I needed to be completely cavity free and have a healthy smile again. I charged this to my Carecredit card and was all ready to go. My first appointment was what I thought was pleasant. Only took about an hour for them to take the x-rays, and complete an exam. At the time I did not have a lot of experience at a dental office, I now know that it was less than par. I left that day with my next appointment scheduled for the next day, and I was so nervous and excited to get this done with. My appointment was first thing in the morning, and I was told it would be about 2 - 3 hours long. So I took off a 1/2 day of work. After waiting for 45 min. in the waiting room, due to the Dentist being late. We finally got started. She would work for approx. 20 minutes, and then say she would be right back and head to work on another patient. It was a very open floor plan, so I could see everyone else she was working on. Again I assumed this was normal. That day I spent 7 solid hours in there, with only about 2 hours' worth of work done on me. They were really quick to apologize multiple times throughout the day about their busy schedule, but it didn't make up for the day I missed at work do to their lack of time management. My next 2 appointments all went pretty much the same as the first, only this time I was a little more prepared with asking the whole day off. At my 3rd appointment, I was told that some changes were made to my dental plan from unseen circumstances, so my running total was going to be more like $6,000. I was not happy about coming out of pocket another $1,000, but I didn't want it to go undone and I was so ready to be finished. So I paid cash that day, and we would pick up on my next appointment to get the rest completed. During the next couple days a few changes were made in my company, and I was transferred to the south side of Houston. While the moving process and new office changes were in the works, (life happened) my dental plan was put on the back burner. 10 months later. I decided that I would just have the money transferred to the Baybrook location, considering that was more convenient for me and made it an easier decision to finish what I started. I thought this was going to be an easy fix, but boy was I wrong. I have called at least 10 times to both locations, unfortunately I can't seem to find someone that can assist me. I have been given the run around to many times now. I have been promised I would be called back, and that the money was being transferred, exc. I also had a problem with the amount that was supposed to be transferred. The first time I called to have it transferred it was just a little over a $1,000.00, a few months later it had dropped down to $800.00 and the last time I spoke with the Willowbrook location, they were saying there was not a credit left at all. 6 weeks ago, someone FINALLY reached out to me. She said that the money would be transferred and that it being a Friday, she would call me back again the next Monday to ensure the transfer went through. That Monday has now come and gone many times, and still no phone call. 3 months ago I called both locations and neither were able to help me in anyway other than the Baybrook location providing a contact e-mail for the upper management. Willowbrook was not as generous, as she said that she didn't have any contact information for anyone outside the office. Also, whoever the manager is at Willowbrook, they seem to ALWAYS be away from their desk. I then contacted the upper management of who's e-mail address I was given. I thought that something was FINALLY going to be done. Within an hour of e-mailing her, she personally called me. I was thrilled to get someone's attention that could make things happen. She listed to all of my concerns and asked if I would be willing to have the money transferred to another location. Unfortunately I was not on-board with that suggestion as to many bridges had already been burned and I asked to PLEASE have my money back they owed me. She said she would do some research and put in the request and I should receive something soon. 3 weeks went by, and no word from the management. I then e-mailed her again to confirm we were still on track and she said that it was and she was handling it. First contact with her, will have been 3 MONTHS ago on the 23rd of this month. NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING has been done. I'm sorry for such a long story, but I hope it saves at least ONE person from going to this terrible, lying, inconsiderate, no good place. read more

Finally the lady at the front desk to make an app. Gave her all of my dental info so she can call and verify. The day of my 8am app, I was told it would be an hour and half wait because she had to call and verify my dental coverage. I have been going to this location on Hwy 249 for over 10 years. I've had many dentists in that time. They have all been good and treated me very well. This past trip 11/5/2015 I saw Dr White. She was very nice and had a great sense of humor and made me feel very comfortable during my root canal. She was very gentle and understanding and took every care if there was the slightest pain coming to keep me comfortable. It was a pleasure being there and talking family, home cooked meals and church. She just made a person feel at home even though dental work was being done. It did take a little longer getting thru the whole process, but the tooth being fixed and experience during made it not so bad. read more

Took my 8 yr daughter for checkup and Dr. Marmentini suggested some palatal expander for which we would be contacted by the Willowbrook location manager in a couple of days with the price. Since we never were contacted, after 2 weeks we called and we have continued to call 5 more times just to be told that the person that can provide us with the quote is not available and assuring us that she (I believe Ruby) has been notified by email with all our information and we will be getting a call that as of today 4 months later we are still waiting. I've been place on hold, got disconnected and last time transferred to another patient that was also on hold. on every call I handled myself courteously but needless to say that the incompetence of Southern Dental has proven bigger than my patience. read more

Zero stars! Terrible! Rude front staff! Extremely unprofessional! Dirty equipment and filthy clinic! I had taken off work and pulled my kids out of school to get to an appointment where they didn't even have the xray equipment for children. They popped xrays with adult equipment without even telling me that the equipment wasn't made for kids. The xrays were useless. Not safe to xray too often, either. Had to listen to excuses about how some doctor at the Heights clinic had taken the parts needed for kids and that I could go over to Heights instead. Very irritating! I asked why no one called me to inform me that I had just waisted time and money to get to an appointment that Southern Dental wasn't even prepared for. I grabbed my kids a left. I've been going to Willowbrook Southern Dental for about 9 years. Silvia Culver was my dentist and she was an excellent dentist. I never had any inconsistencies when she was there. Sadly she left SD a while back to open her own dental office. My experience now is not a positive one. My last visit there will be the last time Southern Dental will ever get my business. They charged me way over what I was supposed to be charged for the services provided. I believed that they were charging me the correct contracted amounts with Cigna and payed without question. I did not realize I was overcharged until I received my insurance statement. Since then I have been trying to get refunded for the overcharge but all I have gotten is the run around from the office manager Kim. I talked to her a few times about the overcharge but basically got nowhere. Now when I call and ask for her they tell me to hold on and then send the call to their voicemail. I'm now in the process of getting Cigna insurance involved so they can help me get refunded what I was overcharged. If I could give the business 0 stars I would. read more

One star for the few staff who actually are trying to provide friendly customer service. This company has owed me a substantial refund for a long time and I have tried for eight months to receive it. The "corporate accounting supervisor" stopped taking my calls after I was told July 5th the money would be refunded in 6-8 weeks. Finally, after 8 months of speaking with 7 different people and then being ignored, I filed a complaint with the BBB and it was ignored. My next step is small claims court. I will discourage all friends and family from using Southern Dental. read more

The worst dental office ever. I literally sat in the waiting area for over an hour, so after being unattended I asked the receptionist how long will it be before I'm seen, she was like oh can you fill out this new patient form. I took the one page form and filled it out in front of her and handed it right to her. She said ok have a seat we'll call you back shortly. I see people come right in and get called to the back and I'm still sitting here (keep in mind my appointment was at 2) @ 3:25 I get called to come to the back for x-rays with an apology saying oh it just took me a while to verify your insurance. I told her awkward because I was told my insurance was verified before I came, she said oh I kept calling the wrong Delta Dental. I was like really because I asked you over the phone if you needed my insurance card and you told me no everything was good to go,she was like oh no but it's ok I've took care of it now! The receptionist sits me in this dirty ass x ray room. (I'm thinking like wth now I know southern dental making more money than this shit here!) The X-ray doctor comes in and ask me what brings you in today? I said general cleaning. She said do you have any pain? I said no. She said any teeth whitening or any other concern? I said no just a general cleaning. She was like well I'll take your X-rays and let the doctor determine what's wrong. I was like there's nothing wrong I just need a general cleaning. She mumbles something and she grabs her utensils and I asked her if she can clean them, she said they are clean. I was like can you clean them in front of me. So with an attitude she cleaned them. I was like can you get somebody else to assist with my x rays. She said why. I said because I don't want you poking around in my mouth. She said ugh and walked out, so this ghetto lil hood rat white lady walks in apologizing, (I'm like oh lord but hell this crap can't get no worse and I just need my damn teeth cleaned before the end of the month) so she get to poking my gums saying eew you have a lot of plaque build up you're going to need more than a general cleaning you're going to need some type of cleaning that cost $243 out of pocket! I said I just had a general cleaning 3mons ago when I took my braces off and I always get a general cleaning every 3mons so I know that ain't right the only reason I'm here is because my dentist is booked for the month of December. She was like well you can speak to the front about it. I go up there and I'm like so what's going on. The dumb blonde ghetto ass receptionist started talking to me with an attitude trying to explain the paper work and couldn't she kept having to stop and say wait oh ok and this is. I was like girl you can stop cause you don't even know what you're reading. She was like ok can you sign right here then. I said sign what? She said so we can bill your insurance company. I said do you seriously think I'm about to sign that paper? I've been here almost 4hrs and all I got out of this horrible experience is being pissed off with sore gums. She was like well you need too with an attitude. I said ok hold that paper right there I'll be right back, well better yet can you give it to me I'm going to go sign it in the car and bring it back to you. I actually wonder how long her dumb butt sat there and waited for me to come back which of course I never did) A waste of time never again. I'm going to just stick with my dentist!
