I tried a class here a few weeks back with a friend and we had a blast. We signed up for the Frittatas lunch n learn on a Friday at noon. We participated with 6 or 7 other people, so it was a a good small group but we did enjoy chatting with the other attendees. Our instructor was fun, friendly, and knowledgeable and answered all our questions along the way. We started with a spring mix salad and for the entree, she made a veggie option and one with sausage. Both were delicious, but my favorite was definitely the meat version. I love that this was just an hour long and so a little more budget friendly and also if you call the shop and book directly, you can save the online booking fees so keep that in mind. I definitely plan to attend another class - these are such fun, interactive, and tasty events and they are helping me get into cooking more which has been a longtime goal of mine., The demo kitchen is in the back of the shop, the rest of the store is full retail with home and kitchen goods, decor, gifts, etc. You get 10% off your purchase after taking the demo class, so don't forget that. @azfitfoodfun read more

Looking for a neat birthday experience for my niece, I came across Southern Home and Kitchen. Why would I take a child to a home goods store, you ask? Look over their events calendar and you'll see they offer several cooking classes a week, including some which are specifically targeted towards children. With a roomy kitchen setup in the back of the store, there are every kind of class you can think of which allow you to try to cuisines, learn new techniques, and try new tools. Today's visit was a children's class, taught by Nissa and assisted by Jennifer (the website lists all the instructor profiles.) Nissa is an elementary school teacher and was FANTASTIC with keeping a group of kids engaged, learning, and feeling welcomed. The kids were given cookbooks, walked step-by-step through several recipes, and got to be hands-on through every step of the process. They learned how to safely use tools, how to mix the ingredients, and at the end of the class got to eat what they had made. My niece LOVED this experience, and as the adult in corner watching I was a bit jealous. Of course, the adults are not required to stay, and they told me some parents choose to go shop or get a treat in Thru-Way while the class happens, but we were also welcome to watch. Personally, I spent some time wandering the store and was enamored with such a massive selection of kitchen tools and home goods. I ended up buying a few of the tools they used during the class to bring home (like a really nifty tool for mincing garlic, or a strawberry huller!). I'm planning to come back and try one of these classes for adults in the future. They told me that some of the adult classes are more observation while some are hands-on, so check the calendar, but I fully recommend checking the classes out for a fun activity. And if education isn't your thing, swing by one afternoon while you're shopping to check out the very broad inventory offerings in the store. Southern Home & Kitchen provides an exquisite selection of cooking tools and household items. On this first visit, I was looking to replace a few cooking prep bowls. Oh my! The selection was broad, various colors, patterns and sizes to choose from that will only make using them more fun. The kitchen gadget wall draws you in then, on the soft goods of tea towels, runners, napkins and such. Working forward, the selection of Le Creuset Cookware is vast; again in various colors. They have lovely dishware, serving pieces, glassware, home decor accent pieces and much more. The shop staff were knowledgeable and very helpful. Yes, I bought more than intended but it was a great experience and I will be back. These people are the epitome of the overentitled jackassery set that we all know and hate. I am a disabled veteran. I'm 100% disabled. I cannot walk without pain medication, and with pain medication I still have quite a hitch in my get along. Handicap parking spaces are not a joke, and they are not optional for you to use if you don't feel like parking in a regular space. Among others, they are for wounded veterans. These people have two such spaces directly in front of their store window. I don't mean out in the parking lot. I mean right in front of their store window. And almost every day when you go there, it is the customers from this store who are taking up those spaces, without any legitimate right to be doing so. Now the first two or three times I just went in and complained to the store. They could see their customers are doing that, and they can tell their customers to move their cars. But in all, I decided just to leave the complaint between myself and the owners of this store, because it was their customers committing the offense. But today, when I pulled up, they had a delivery truck making a delivery to this store, spread out across both handicap spaces. Man, that's when enough is enough. That's when there are no more excuses. At this point, the store owners are instructing people to tie up those spaces. And with that, it was time to get on here and let everyone know what complete jackasses these people are. Like I said, I am a disabled veteran. As long as the VA provides me with my pain medication, I can hobble across that parking lot if I have to. But riddle me this, what if I were a 90-year-old who couldn't walk across that parking lot? Because those spaces aren't just for veterans. This disrespect is going to the elderly in your community as well. After a couple of times going in there to complain with the employees and owners of the store, I actually started to feel bad. But then I thought about it. They are the ones making it necessary for me to go in there all the time until their jackass people to move their damned cars. And they don't mind being jackasses, so I guess I don't mind being the veteran that calls them out on it on behalf of my brother veterans and on behalf of the elderly in our community. I don't know anything about their products. It looks more like a shop for overprivileged housewives than anything else. But their attitude toward the community at large, and our veterans, and our elderly, is absolutely disrespectful and absolutely inlerable. NO, YOU JERKS, YOU MAY NOT ALLOW YOUR DELIVERY TRUCKS TO PARK ACROSS BOTH HANDICAP SPACES! WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING? read more

I thought it was time for an updated review. My experience has been a lot different coming back over the past few years. I love their cooking classes. They have a huge variety and they are lots of fun. Some of my favorites were the cookie decorating class and the British tea class. They also have many unique cooking products compared to chain stores. My latest find was a small roasting rack perfect for chicken. I also was able to buy a hard-to-find size of baking dish. Updating my review from 2013 when they first opened since Southern Home and Kitchen continues to be one of my favorite local stores. The selection in this store really cannot be beat, they put so much awesomeness in a space that isn't crazy large! The store does have a lot going on, but if you take your time and walk through they do a good job at sectioning everything off. For those who don't shop local because they can find things cheaper on Amazon and the like, I suggest following them on social media. They are always doing great sales. Recently they did 20% off two items, on Black Friday morning it was buy one get one free, and on small business Saturday they did free monogramming. You really can get some great deals! They also have that points system where every time you shop you earn points which equals money off for a future visit. They have a great selection of Corkcicle products and S'well bottles. I mean who doesn't need a Corkcicle Canteen that fits a whole bottle of wine and keeps it chilled for like 24 hours? I think everyone needs one of those! If you are interested in cooking classes this is the place to go! They bring in some of the top chef's of the Triad. Since they can only fit so many people on the counter for each class you can always ensure you will have a perfect view of the action in a personable atmosphere. The December champagne cocktail class was one of my favorites....the instructor was great and we had three drinks that were different from the usual suspects and all delicious. Loved my cooking class yesterday with my team. the only thing missing was for us to help as a team building activity. but Chef Diane was fabulous and the chicken stir fry was delicious!!!!! I absolutely fell in love upon getting inside the doorway! The cheerful, colorful displays were right up my ally and immediately drew me inside to keep finding more great and unique items. The display of Happy Everything Company items alone were perfect for any occasion- the bright colors, various combos to customize the plates, platters, tableware and even a calendar- were bright, full of color and have become a must have for me. The Le Creuset brand of items is exceptional! Both the variety of items and colors make it great to pair with the FiestaWare I collect in all colors! I love the cooking classes they offer for adults and children, which I can't wait to attend soon! They have several items to customize as well and the holiday decor was the icing on the cake! This store has something for everyone.....not quite every budget. They have a lot of gadgets you can't find anywhere else and some beautiful decor for your home and kitchen. They also host cooking events which is fantastic! I definitely make a trip to this store several times a year to see if they have anything new. read more

This is a great store for the classic wedding or house warming gift. There are also everyday kitchen gadgets and they hold classes as well.

My fiancé's grandmother loves this store, frequents it quite often, and has bought several hundred dollars worth of battery operated candles from here. She took her granddaughter and me to look at their lovely selection of items and to register for our wedding. As she was pointing out one of the bowls, a small picture frame fell off the shelf. She picked up the piece of broken glass and took the frame to the counter. She apologized to Linda, who then informed her that she would have to pay $5.50 for the glass insert. I was shocked. My fiancé's grandmother is probably one of the most loyal customers of this establishment. Needless to say, we will not be listing our gift registry with this business. read more
