The owners here are very nice. The bath house smelled very clean. I was lucky to have found it after a long day of running from the latest big thunder storm in Texas. Each of those gets a star. The transformer that powers the park blew right after I got there. Power came back after 9 pm. So it should be good for a while. As I was packing up to leave the next morning, I couldn't help but notice a large rig across from me let their 6, count them six greyhounds out to do "their business" on the concrete pad that's used for people to sit & eat. They had put up a folding fence around it. Yes they all did their business and jumped back inside. Here's the kicker. This place has a dog run/park just for that! Their owner of the dogs came out about a half hour later & picked it up. How do you pick up urine? I did not see her spray, scrub or disinfect anything. Makes you wonder what was on your last site pad ??? read more

We arrived at this RV Park on Valentine's Day for a one night stay. Upon check-in, the SUPER nice lady gave a rose and some heart shaped sugar cookies for Valentine's Day. What a sweet welcoming! The spots were wide, level and gravel spots with pretty views. The RV Park bathrooms and showers were immaculate! A little outdated, but VERY clean. read more

Nice park on the quieter (west) end of town. Sites are pretty level, gravel, fairly roomy. You will track nasty little burrs in from outside no matter how careful you are to only walk on the gravel, so if you have a pet.... The surrounding mountains make for a very pretty view all directions. The wind seems to be steady, but we've found that is standard from Ft Stockton west. The bathrooms are clean and tidy, with 3 showers and 3 toilets in each, one of each being handicapped accessible. Laundry room is functional, with a wash tub and folding table, but the long-term residents aren't good about keeping it clean and neat after they've used it. Good water pressure. Nice owner. Most of the trailers are long-term and some are in ugly shape (tattered awnings, exercise equipment outside). The train tracks are just across Broadway, and you can see/feel the trains as they go by with enough regularity that they kind of become white noise, but no train horns. Equal distance the opposite direction is the freeway. There are 3 RV parks in town proper, and all of them have the train/freeway thing happening. This park doesn't have two major truck centers next to it, though. The town's small grocery store is just west of the park, about 2 blocks, and there's a car wash right next door. I would recommend this park and would stay here again. read more

My husband and I broke down on a Thursday. We were pulling a travel trailer. Our Good Sam insurance picked out this campground for us to be towed to, while our truck was in the garage down the street. The manager & his wife who run the place were super friendly, super helpful, and considering we were stuck at an unscheduled stop, it could not have been any better. We didn't have a vehicle, so they offered to take us if we needed to go anywhere. We also got a discounted military rate. The laundry room was working great and the rest rooms were clean. And the drive through spots were a plus! They let us stay as long as we needed and we finally got our truck back and we leave tomorrow (Tuesday). If you need to be in this area for any reason, I would highly suggest you book here. It is safe and comfortable here. (PS - the highway noise did not bother us at all). read more

Great place to overnight! We needed a pull thru with electric, sewer, and a short walk to a restaurant for our vacation final stop on our way home. The person I spoke to on the phone was helpful and pleasant when I made our reservation. We paid by credit card, arrived after hours, and found all the necessary information we needed tacked to the bulletin board outside the office. Since we were not unhooking the tow vehicle we were very pleased our site was level. I cannot speak to the rest of the amenities as we were just there to eat (enjoyed the steakhouse only a short block away) and sleep (slight road noise and an occasional train passing that didn't bother us) and we left early in the morning. This would not be a destination stop, but it definitely served our needs for the night. read more

I didn't stay here with my camper. I was just driving through Texas on business but I travel with 2 chows and I was looking for a dog park in Van Horn. This place is the only place that showed up for dog parks and went over to let them run around and do their thing. I met the people that ran it and they were very nice and the grounds looked really good. They let me use their park even though I wasn't staying there! Next time I do have my trailer traveling through there, I will definitely be staying with them. read more

This used to be Eagles Nest. It is open again with new owners. The grounds are clean and everything in excellent repair. The WiFi works really well and they have added cable TV. The showers are clean and there is a laundry. Very friendly owner who met us with a smile and helped us park. This park is an excellent value for the $25 discounted rate. Owner purchased property recently and she is very nice and welcoming. The sites are very generous and the park is clean with full hook-ups. Was very surprised to find that our spot was dead level, and that all 4 lights on our leveler were green, and we didn't have to make any adjustments. There is some highway noise but it is negligible once inside the RV. Satellite is good and internet is a 7 out of 10. Nice patio area with picnic table at each site. read more

We came across southern star on our way leaving Carlsbad Cavern National Park for a simple place to pitch a tent and rest our heads for the night. We called just in time before the lady was leaving the office but she was very accommodating and took my information and told me Robert next door would take care of us and he did just that. While he was doing work around the park he would check up on us and made sure we were taken care of. The showers/bathrooms, laundry room, and clubhouse were all clean and kept up with. read more

What a nice surprise. We called from 10 miles out and no problem getting us a space. I was surprised that they even answered the phone it was already 8 o'clock at night. when we got there the couple that owned the park where so very pleasant. we were going to drive over to the steakhouse that was close by and the owner said no no you park - I will drive you over and you just call us and I will come get you when you're finished. I couldn't believe it. What friendly great service. We had a great pull through easy to hook up. Washrooms are clean. Highly recommend this park. But Call ahead for a reservation. read more

We were close to Van Horn as I was googling rv parks. This resort came up with good reviews with most of the reviews talking about passport america rates of $15 night. I called the resort as we were getting off the exit asking if they have available space for a Friday night. She said they did and I also asked her if the p.a. rate was valid. She said they stopped doing passport america but were a good sam member and the rate would be $27 instead of $30. By this time we were at the entrance so we pulled in. I noticed right away that the office was closed. So I called the gal back and she just said to follow the night registration. Was it that hard to tell me the office would be closed when I talked to her two minutes earlier and we're on our own to find a site? I filled out the registration slip and realized I didn't have the cash and there was no way I was going to put my credit card number on the little slips of paper they had out front so we found a site and figured we'd settle up in the morning. So what do you get for $27 a night you might ask? Not a whole lot. This place is right by the interstate where you get a lot of traffic noise and then as many rv parks are known to have trains nearby so you get that noise as well. This place does have a fenced in dog park but most of the grass is dead or dying. And it seems anywhere you go in texas or new mexico you step on these little cactus burrs called goat heads that imbed themselves in your dog's paws or certain rubber sole shoes which are very painful. There was a laundry there and restrooms that we didn't go in or use. I'm kind of glad we didn't because the next morning I was walking past the laundry as some woman was pushing water outside with a mop due to one of the machines flooding. I walked to the office to settle up only to finally read a note that I couldn't see in the dark last night that the office is only open from 1-6:00 Monday thru friday. What!? This is the first time I've ever been to a park that doesn't open til 1:00. I ended up writing a check for the $27 even though I was tempted to only leave $20. I don't feel this is a good way to run a park and I'm really shocked that they don't offer the passport america rate. I would never stay here again...not for $27. Even if they didn't do passport america but gave better rates for overnighters who don't use their facilities the campground would maybe attract more people. Save your money and go somewhere nicer. read more

Great little RV Park. The sites are pull thru and have full hook-ups including cable and wi-fi. All amenities are clean and well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. The price is right and they accept most discount (Good Sam/Passport America, etc). My rate was $15.00 with Passport America - great deal. Would highly recommend this park. read more
