I've flown Southwest Airlines quite a bit over the years, and since moving to Orlando--especially with trips to Pittsburgh--it's easily become my go-to airline. Overall, Southwest has been super reliable for me. Sure, there are occasional delays, but they've mostly been weather-related. On a recent MCO to PIT flight, we had about an hour delay due to weather, but they made up time in the air and it only ended up being about a 30-minute delay. Plus, the flight wasn't full, which made for a really comfortable ride. One thing I actually like is their boarding process. It's almost like a virtual queue--check in early, get a better boarding position, and you've got a solid shot at a good seat. Wait too long, and you're probably heading toward the back. Flying solo, it doesn't matter much to me, but with family, that early check-in strategy definitely comes into play. Their rewards program is solid, the staff is consistently friendly and communicative, and they just get you where you need to go without the headaches. Not much to complain about here--Southwest has earned its spot as my preferred airline in the sky. Wheels up! read more

No issues flying Southwest from the Orlando airport. There are several flight destinations so there's more than one desk. Pay attention to signage that lists the cities managed by the counter. We easily printed off boarding passes and luggage tags. The line took time to check in our bags so beware and allow buffer time. Employees were friendly and made sure we had what was needed for a smooth check in with security. The gates had plenty of seating and when our flight was ready, the agents called the boarding groups quickly. We also took advantage of checking in our carry ons for free. read more

If I ever fly to DCA from MCO again, I would fly with Southwest again, with one of their non stop flights. Both Orlando based crews for the trip up on last Saturday evening and the returning flight on Mknday night were super friendly and efficient, especially the young air hostess of the DCA-MCO flight who took care of the front rows. I've read all the negative news about the Southwest boarding process changes, but my first experience since they went to assigned seating was exemplary! A lot has to do with me being a Priority VISA card member, I'm sure. With their Priority card, I chose the Basic fare price, but was allowed to pick my seat when I booked for no additional charge. Also, my first bag was free. Then, 48 hours before I needed to check in, I got to upgrade to a premium seat (based on availability) for no extra charge. I got an exit row seat with extra legroom and was able to board among the first passengers as a Group 2 recipient. Then, you were offered a special treat of sweet or savory pistachios before the regular beverage service started. Now, I'm heading back to Orlando from BWI and I was able to get all the same perks for my departure back home at a Basic Fare price! If you fly Southwest as much as I do, the Southwest Priority VISA card is a must. The annual service fee paid for itself on my first flight! read more

I normally fly non-stop to Orlando from Las Vegas, Round-trip when I go to Florida. There are typically a few SWA flights that go non-stop between Las Vegas and Orlando. Our flight left on a Wednesday morning from Las Vegas, with an arrival into Orlando around 2:30 P.M. We had a scheduled return flight back to Las Vegas on a Sunday, leaving Orlando around 8:00 A.M EST. Check-in to the terminal for Southwest Airlines for arriving and departure was seamless for Orlando. Sometimes, there can be a long wait time to drop off check-in luggage. My mom and I got lucky though! There was only about a 15 minute wait to drop off checked luggage. Check-in for the flight is 24 hours in-advance. You can get early check-in for better boarding assignment. Right now, you can get in boarding assignments A, B, C from 1-60 with open seating. Southwest will be updating to assigned seating towards the end of 2025 though! Southwest Airlines service in the Orlando International Airport was amazing! On the flight, Southwest offered complimentary drink and water service, as well as some snacks! Seats were spacious and comfortable! Flights arrived on time! read more

This was one of the worst travel experiences I've ever had with Southwest Airlines, and sadly it reflects how far the company has fallen in recent years. Our flight out of Orlando MCO was first delayed by an hour. After boarding, we sat on the active runway for nearly two hours before the pilot finally informed us she had "timed out" and we had to return to the gate. There was some weather in the area, but that was not the reason given. The issue was staffing and operational failure. Once we deplaned, things got even worse. Southwest staff openly admitted they didn't know what was going on. We waited in line for over two hours just to be told there were no available flights. Despite the situation clearly being caused by crew timing issues, Southwest refused to provide a hotel, claiming it was weather related. To make matters worse, we waited over three additional hours just to retrieve our bags. Traveling with family, this was an absolute nightmare. No communication, no accountability, and no support. I will not be flying Southwest again. read more

Horrible. I brought a carry on plus my book bag and a blanket. They counted my blanket as another carry on item. I've never had this problem with any other airline. When we got on the plane we had the front seats so they had to put out bags in the overhead bin. One of the workers took my bag and aggressively took my bag and put it in. He didn't even give me a chance to take any of my stuff out. There also wasn't any TV screens which I expected for the price we paid. The boarding process is the best in the industry, except for the fact that people are now taking advantage of pre-board which I think is sad. They're about to ruin a good thing. Our flight to Chicago was through a bunch of storms plus a 45min extra circling waiting to land safely. It was easily the roughest flight I've flown. I couldn't even read holding my book in the air! These pilots did a phenomenal job flying through it all. Kudos to SWA! read more

My last review was 9 years ago; I feel it's time for an update. =) We've now moved from Jacksonville and have lived in Orlando for the past several years. Our oldest daughter and her family live in the North Texas area, so we fly into Dallas Love Field fairly often to visit them. It's a non-stop flight from MCO to Love Field and takes almost 3 hours... that does include time for taxing, landing, etc. Since it was the Christmas season, it took us longer to get through TSA and the plane had already started boarding, so we weren't able to get seats at the front, but that was perfectly ok because my service dog who is a standard poodle had plenty of room to curl up on the floor where hubby and I were sitting. The flight wasn't full, so they even gave us an extra seat so Brady (service dog) would have even more room. The flight attendants went out of their way to make sure Brady was comfortable because this was his very first flight. I can't applaud them enough! Even though I had water for him, they still brought water for him and just oooo'd and ahhhh'd over him. =) Brady was a bit confused when we got up in the air, I think because his ears started popping, so even though he was suppose to stay on the floor, they allowed him to sit in the seat curled up between us so he felt more at ease with his first flight. He did get back on the floor and lie down when it was time to land, and I have to say, Brady did a stand up job! Extra applause for him!! Love Southwest. Will always fly with them as long as they are flying to the destination I want to go. Not gonna lie, my husband is a teacher and we don't make nearly enough money to fly first class on another airline, and I also just love the fact that 2 bags fly free per person! read more

We took SWA flight from San Diego to Orlando on the same plane flight 4204. So we did not get off the plane. We stopped briefly in Dallas. When we got in, our luggage was lost because they put it on a different plane to Denver and then to Orlando. The Denver flight was delayed. So we waited 4 hours for our luggage at the airport. The SWA baggage claim agent, a young African American female, was not helpful, short, uncaring and rude. The flight was fine, but how do you lose luggage with no transfers. Then SWA agents did not care at all. Our family is terminating our future flights or business with SWA. We will fly direct on other carriers from now on. SWA has lost our luggage multiple times even with no transfers. Wow! Terrible read more

The new boarding process is terrible and they'll separate a couple booked the same exact purchase as each other...let's clarify..same transaction by one person for his wife and himself. Two stand alone purchases. They won't attempt to reassign their seats now either. Thankfully a solo traveler was willing to trade his seat for my pregnant wife to be able to sit by me. I had flown with SW 3 times over the last few months. I'm a "Rapid Rewards" member and check in 24 hours before my flights. Despite this, I'm usually given a late boarding assignment. One flight, it was group 7. SW got almost 20 people to check their bags, I didn't as I didn't have any checked bags and don't check a bag for a reason. Then I was told nobody in group 7 or 8 could have a carry on. I told them I didn't want to check my bag and was certain there was still some overhead space. I was then threatened to be put off the flight. I asked if my ticket I purchased included a carry on? I was again threatened. So the fact SW doesn't enforce the policy of people who board earlier of not putting personal items in the overhead, other customers are penalized. SW takes no responsibility for not providing what customers pay for - it's your problem. As it is, they have no first class, no monitors, no chargers, and the wifi works half the time. They are the Carnival of the Sky. In the future, I'll pay a little more and book with another airline. read more

Southwest has been one of the only airlines that has not disappointed me lately. First of all, I appreciate that you don't get nickel and dimed with all those added fees. They provide free wifi, free entertainment including movies and shows, and free beverages. Luggage is free, too! The staff at the MCO Airport were professional and efficient. MCO WN Southwest manager Lilian, greeter Naomi, and Filipino TRD ticket agent James were amazing in getting us checked in for our Southwest flight to LGA. They helped us get our dog onboard and escorted us to purchased tickets to NYC. We eventually made it to NYC and had a great time with our corgi. He enjoyed it just as much as we did. Always a great time in NYC and this time we enjoyed it with our dog all because of Lilian, Naomi, and James. They made dreams come true for us. We will fly Southwest MCO again and not Delta MCO. I booked my hotel and flight through Southwest Vacations and also signed up for the free rewards program so it's a much cheaoer option that others. Other flights may be technically cheaper, but they find other ways to charge you. Other flights have really weird days or times they fly so planning is too complex (Allegiant really only flys Mondays and Fridays and only to Sanford) yet our Southwest flights was at 9:55am Sunday and 3:25pm Saturday so much easier to work with. 2 checked bags, a carry on, and a small personal item made traveling much easier so my cot flew free and the Disney helmets went as carry-on without issue. Other flights charge about $40 per bag whether carry on or checked so that cost hurts. Flight had about average leg room so not terrible. No first class available. Group A, then B, and finally C board. As normal people not paying extra to board early and no small children meant we were in group C. This meant we got whatever seats were left and split up our group. Luckily none of us had an issue with that, but fair warning. They serve a random snack in flight as well as a non alcoholic beverage both included in the price. Their flight staff was friendly with no issues. Will fly with them again. read more

I have never had an issue with southwest but of course when we decided to go on a trip to universal studios, they didn't put one of our suitcases on our plane lol. My daughter and I were patiently waiting for our 4th suitcase (2 each) which contained all of her clothes, bathing suits, etc. When it never appeared on the belt, I asked the woman next to the belt (an associate) if all of the bags from the Baltimore flight had been unloaded. She said yes and that if I was missing something I had to go to the office and pointed in the direction of where to go. I will admit I was less than thrilled about having to deal with a lost suitcase. The agent was nice and patient with me. The luggage was on a different plane that was due to land at 6 pm (we landed at 2:30 pm). Long story short, they delivered the missing luggage to the hotel we were staying at the same evening (later, like around 10 pm). At least it wasn't lost for long and they also offered a bag tracking service where I could see the status. read more

They are awful. Not organized at all. On my way to vacation, flight cancelled. Was put on standby 3 times, but bumped down the list because they give the seats to their rewards customers first. Paid for priority seating, but was put on a plane with C class. Wasn't able to sit with my young daughters. Got to my destination, Orlando. Waited for an hour on the tarmac and then 45 minutes while they waited to find an employee to connect the plane to the gate. There was no one there. Now today sitting in the airport looking at a check in line that's a mile long and been informed that our flight is delayed and we will be missing our connecting flight. Here we go again. read more

I was flying from Orlando to Houston on 11/5/24. I am active duty military and have a very close layover in Houston that my wife and I were worried about making, I usually don't board early with military when I fly but for this one we intended to because of the layover, I asked Velma at the front desk (approx 5:30am) how the military boarding works and she informed me that I am able to board early but my wife is not able to, despite her being an active duty dependent with a military ID. Every airline that I know of allows dependents with ID to board with their service member but I guess Southwest in MCO prefers to break up families to save a quick buck. Additional Velma was extremely rude and was quick to brush off my question by continually to tell me how my wife is not active duty so she has to wait to board with non military. Clearly this airline does not honor the sacrifices that military dependents make. The gentleman in line behind me overheard the conversation and kindly offered to pay for my wife to upgrade her seat to board early. There are no doubt good, kind hearted people around still, but Velma is not one of them and the executives at southwest who make these decisions certainly aren't either. read more

Flying Southwest out of Orlando is pretty easy. I'm pretty sure the entire concourse is all Southwest, so if you're connecting, you may have a long walk or run from one end to the other, but there's no real confusion as to where to go. Checking in and checking your bag can be a challenge as the lines can get long. Once you get the hang of tagging your own bag and getting in line, it's easy to get through quickly. The concourse with Southwest has plenty of dining options. The restrooms are small and only have a limited number of toilets, so lines may form. It's nice and open compared to the other terminals at MCO. read more

Cannot even begin to tell y'all how mad I am. Southwest misbooked my flight, reversing the incoming and outgoing destinations. When I noticed the mistake they had made, I called and they charged me $300 to reverse the flights. I will not be flying SWA again considering they have been involved in most of the accidents and close calls lately, including a drunk pilot trying to take off on a taxiway and a SWA plane almost landing on a commuter plane. read more

I made it to my destination on time, the staff were friendly, and the pricing of flights was competitive. First and last time flying with southwest. Was given attitude after briefly hesitating to come up to the counter. Flight delayed over and over, and why was it so slow to get our backs. Southwest would never be my first choice of airlines. But they have direct flights to Florida, and you really can't beat that, so I put up with them every once in awhile. If you are not familiar with them, I don't think it's clear that they don't have assigned seats like every other airline. I don't understand why they don't just do it and save everyone the headache, but they don't. You either need to pay extra for Early Bird, which checks you in automatically, or you need to check in exactly 24 hours before your flight. If there's multiple people in your party, everyone needs to check in right then. If not, the person that boards first gets the privilege of trying to save seats for the rest of their party. Oh, what fun it is to fly Southwest... The last people to board our flight clearly had not gotten the memo, and they were MAD they couldn't sit together. The one guy wanted to pay a woman $100 to move so they could have a row together. Ummm, Early Bird would have been cheaper... The flight was only semi full, so I was able to have the middle seat open with boarding position A48. I was flying by myself this time, and a family of 4 sat across from me, so the one extra person sat in my row. It worked out very nicely, but I hate not knowing, and I wish you could just pay extra to get a seat reserved. My flight home was pretty empty, and I had a row to myself with boarding position A41. Even their drink service is strange, and they write down what everyone wants to drink, and then bring you a cup later. They don't have a beverage cart, and they don't give you the pop cans. I even ordered vodka and wine, and I thought they'd give me the bottles with those. Nope! That was the strongest vodka and Diet Coke I may have ever had. Those cups aren't big, and there's ice in them, too. Having the pop can would have been nice so I could have added some more. I guess $8 for a vodka isn't enough to get a can of pop, too. There's also no TV's. You can watch TV on your phone, but then it drains your battery. And you have to pay extra for Wifi. Again, this would never be my first choice. It actually would usually be my last choice, but I didn't want to spend 3 more hours getting there with a layover, so I dealt with it. Don't expect a luxurious experience, but it's decent enough once you get past their ridiculous boarding procedure. read more
