Hummus and pita
Douglas C.

My first visit to Virginia Tech and my buddy said we had to try this small Greek joint for lunch. Classic college restaurant with about 10 tables and 10 counter seats. Pitas, sandwiches and humus . A simple menu but the quality is there. Roasted red pepper hummus and warm fluffy pita to start. Delicious flavor. Gyro and curly fries. Real potato and the meat had great flavor. It's a treat.

Gyro - so good.
John G.

This is a "must visit" when you are visiting. A little local joint. No frills. Just simple, affordable, good food. You have to get their signature Gyro.

Best Gyros for the best price! They never have too long of a wait and their baklava is to die for!

Subs are great. A Blacksburg staple. Parking is tough sometimes though. You won't be disappointed.

The Cellar is one of those restaurants where you might wonder, "Do they have ...?" And the answer…read morewill probably be, "Yes, they do have that on the menu." They have gyros, meatball subs, pizza, burgers, crab cakes, kabobs, chicken parmesan and lots more. I get a little squinky when I see a multiple-page menu with lots of random foods on it. But I visited with a group, and so I was locked into this place, whether I liked it or not. A quick internet and Yelp search told me that the things to get at The Cellar are the Greek gyro and the pizzas. I didn't want a whole pie just for myself, so I ordered the gyro. The Greek gyro was really good! It is lamb and beef in a pita, topped with tzatziki, lettuce, onion and tomato. All of the veggies were super fresh, and the pita was warm and pillowy. It's served with chips and a pickle. They actually have quite a few Greek or Mediterranean-adjacent items on the menu. One of the people in my group ordered the Black & Blue Salad, which is basically a salad with steak and bleu cheese on it, plus lots of vegetables. It was huge! She ate a lot of it, and it looked like she barely made a dent. When she put the leftovers in the to-go container, she almost needed two containers! It became a running joke that day and for a couple of days afterward about whether or not she actually finished that salad. This is also the location for the 6Pak Bottle Shop, which is basically a liquor store but intensely curated. They have a nice selection of craft beers and wine. There is also a bar downstairs, which I didn't have the pleasure of visiting. Another great thing about The Cellar is that they are open late! Sometimes until midnight, and sometimes until 2 a.m. I guess that makes sense, as they are located basically right across the street from Virginia Tech.

This is a nice hidden gem! On a busy corner of the Main Street is Cellar Restauarant. After a…read morecouple stops down the street, we wanted to end our evening in a quiet place. The Cellar has a basement bar. We snagged a few bar seats. The bar server was great. He provided us waters. He quickly took our cocktail orders and made some very delicious cocktails. My sour apple martini was so good that that a second one was in front of me quickly. One of us ordered a full sandwich meal and that sandwich looked humongous and full of meat. We also ordered sides of curly fries. These were fried fresh. It's somewhat of a dark speakeasy vibe. The crowd was tame compared to some of the other bars down the street. We hope to try the full restaurant in our next visit.

The food is fresh and so yummy and like I said it's enough food to feed two people or have as two meals so it's a cost effective meal choice. Customer service was great and each bowl is made right in front of you so you can add or eliminate any of the ingredients you don't want. Their bowls always hit the spot and leave me full, satisfied, and feeling good. The service is always great and the staff is very welcoming. I will also note that I have never had a problem with my order here, they always get it correct. The menu allows you to order one of their bowls or curate your own. You can also add or take away certain ingredients to one of their bowls as well. Some of my favorite bowls are the Balboa, the Mayweather, and the Tamari. The bowls are super filling and packed with all the ingredients. Their chicken is also really good, not dry, and seasoned well. If you are in the area and want a healthy, filling meal, check Roots out! I am dying for them to open a location in Gainesville!!

Not overly busy on a Sunday evening, so service was attentive. Prices were reasonable. Reservations are available but were not needed on the night of our visit. Recommended. The restaurant is in a strip mall area near VT campus, with an outdoor/parking lot patio and two wings of seating on either side of the entrance. The graduation menu was a limited, but good selection of fixed price entrees, apps, salads and desserts. They also had cocktails and a nice selection of wine. The restaurant also doubles as a wine shop. A couple of us had beef cannelloni and one had a sausage and pasta dish, along with a calamari starter and Caesar salads. Calamari was hot fresh and very tender, with a good dipping sauce. Salads were crisp and tangy, with the addition of delicious bread. The baked Cannelloni was superb with a ton of flavor and served piping hot. Tasted like some real love went into it; same with the pasta/sausage dish. Large portions and prices were reasonable were quite reasonable. Finished with some light and airy chocolate mousse. Overall, outstanding service and food, especially when considering the limited options for finer dining in Blacksburg. Only drawback IMO is the quality of the food and service is miles above the ambiance and decor. Could still be rustic, but with some interior color and server dress coordination, would make for a classier dining experience.

I hate to leave a bad review for this place, which is like an old friend to me now, but as it turns…read moreout some old friends make bad chicken sandwiches. I fondly remember coming here freshman year, 5 times a week, ordering a spicy chicken with no pickles, fries and a drink, and then walking over to Owens so that I could actually find a place to sit. But now, 3 years later, senior year, I have to be honest, this place really isn't good. I guess this is how Brutus felt when he left a bad Yelp review about Julius ceasar. (I think that's what happened but I dropped intro to classics after the first week) Obviously everyone knows this is not as good as a real chick fil a, no matter how much we might pretend it is, much like everyone knows tech's football team is not as good as an actual football school's. But today's experience eating here let me down more than last season did. The sandwich was mushy and dry, the fries were flaccid and oily, and even the Coke tasted like water from the duck pond. Right now I'm questioning what I was doing standing in line 25 minutes every day freshman year to eat here for lunch. While I can't really recommend that you eat here, I can recommend something to eat here, an unexpected combo that not many people go for. What you want to do is get a chick fil a sandwich and dunk it into the marinara sauce that comes with the Pizza Hut bread sticks, for a chicken parm that tastes better than that crap they overhype at Owens. Man I can't believe I just wrote a whole review betraying one of my favorite dining halls on campus. But maybe it was really them who betrayed me. Et tu, chick fil a? (I'm pretty sure that's Latin?)

Chick-fila-A is probably my favorite spot in town. This location is definitely a mini version with…read morelimited selection but it has all of the basics: nuggets, fries, and chicken sandwiches. My only complaint is that it is more expensive than regular locations being that it is on a college campus. If you don't have the meal plan you'll be paying inflated prices. My sandwich was about $4.50. Luckily, I was craving some spicy chicken or else I would've just spent my money at a vending machine.
