Thankfully we are not talking about the cheap replicants you find in other shops. These are the real deal, manufactured by Herman Miller in the US. I purchased my Eames soft-padded management chair here. It took about 12 weeks for it to be custom made in the US and then make its way across the Pacific down to Melbourne. The order went smoothly and it was clear that the saleswoman was quite knowledgeable and made some excellent recommendations about selecting the right leather. The chair arrived the other week (just as I was promised), looked exactly as I expected and made my home office all that much comfortable. Living Edge's Richmond shop has a nice range of accessories on display (limited stock though, annoyingly most pieces have to be ordered from Europe or the US which takes a few weeks). The Living Edge is not a cheap store by any means, but they only sell originals. I guess the one advantage of buying in Australia is they source the Eames collection from Herman Miller and not Vitra which is the case in Europe. Luckily Herman Miller is a bit cheaper. Living Edge is a great store for anyone interested in browsing classic designed furniture originals, less so for those seeking newer and trendier collections.

Dwell isn't a high-end furniture store, but it's not competing with Fantastic Furniture either. It's a comfortable mid-range sort of store that is on par with the likes of Freedom (perhaps a little lower) in terms of price, but the stock is available in MUCH smaller numbers. If you want something for your home that isn't from the usual suspects like Freedom, Ikea, Plush, etc. without paying a fortune, Dwell is a great place to start. Oh, and should you see something you like but isn't quite right, make sure you let the staff know. They have catalogues full of things that can be ordered just for you.

I went in a couple of times, and even dropped off wall paper samples to help me match fabrics. I was so very disappointed that the owner never got in touch with me about the samples and helping me to finalise my choices. The staff were great - fantastic actually. They were so wonderful to me, but in the end I felt like the owner was too busy to spend time helping me. Feel sad, cause I was really looking forward to getting a couple of the pieces :)

They are truly willing to go well beyond expectations to make absolutely certain you are happy with your purchase. Having purchased a custom made Salon couch from these folks (that ended up not fitting in the house - long story, but the store is looking after the issue perfectly), I can honestly not sing their praises highly enough. I've read a few reviews from unhappy customers and simply can't understand how their situations arose - you'd really have to try to have a negative experience here.

And this is very true. The busy store carries a wide range of homeware - from dazzling lighting, jazzy cushions, trendy table matter, witty décor pieces and functional kitchen ware. It also has a lovely range of children's toys, room accessories and gifts. But more importantly, Thomas Gannan carries a good mix of exclusive Jardan sofas and stunning Arthur G lounges. It also features a selection of environmentally sustainable Australian timber furniture, which can be custom made to suit your needs. I've bought quite a few presents from this store and have always been impressed by the service. It's not often that a sales person asks whether you would like a new piece but they do here!

Moss sells everything from cushions to aromatic oils to burn in the home, plus furniture and a whole lot more. Everything is designer made - Not in the flashy, high end name way, but of the independent smaller designer varietal, and all of their stock seem to have been chosen for both their design and quality -which is nice, because in some places, it is one or the other. I bought some fabulous feature cushions, and some gorgeous bowls that on my wage I probably shouldve thought twice about. Oh well. When Im too broke to go out because of my purchases, I can prop up on my cushions, and eat a bowl of ice cream instead! My one complaint (other than my empty bank account) was that service was very average. I wasnt approached at all for the first ten minutes in the store, because the sales people were busy chatting. Neither said anything until I approached them at the counter to ask a question, and make my purchase. Perhaps they thought my cushion buying was inadequate, or maybe just didnt notice me. Either way, not the best experience in the world. Luckily they have super cute things to sell- and the three stars is only because of the product, NOT the service.

Every piece of furniture was adorned with fine linen or the cabinets were filled with fine Italian glasses. Rich colours were very much part of this shop. Paintings were classic and eye catching. I had a long conversation with the owner who explained that each piece of furniture is custom made. Ok...I know ...there must have had a price to go with it! At the time I was in the shop one Chinese fellow was discussing through an interpreter how to ship the goods to China. Another fellow was paying for his new buys that were in the four digit figures. Wow...I was taken back. If I was to refurbish a place in classical beautiful furniture this would be the place I would start. Oh they do deliver interstate!!! A retro 70's inspired colour scheme seems to be evident throughout, with the soft geometrical shapes in hues of bright orange, lime green and magenta. The building seems to be some kind of warehouse conversion and offers a range of furniture such as couches, coffee tables and foot stools, as well as funky lighting fixtures, lamps and decorative pieces. Even if not looking to buy something Picci is still worth a look if you have time for a quick browse. The bright colours will give you if nothing else a hit of inspiration to take with you on your day.
