My family had an excellent time on the Malaga Food Sherpa tour with Elysse. We started with a bit of history and then sat down just outside of the market so have some fried sardines and the tinto de verano. Even those in my family who were not fans of seafood enjoyed this dish. Our group then went into the market and had some samples of olives, almonds and figs. It was excellent. We then travelled for the Charcuterie plate and some vermouth and manzanilla. My choice was the manzanilla but the rest of the family enjoyed the vermouth. The Iberian ham and cheese were wonderful. We walked some more and went to the Malaga-centric food and wine restaurant--Eme Mariano. The red wine was excellent. We paired this with a Gazpachuelo--- fish soup--which was velvety in texture. We followed this with the best croquetas de jamón I have had during my time in Spain. A little further walk and we went to El Chinitas for red and white wine sampling. The fried eels was scrumptious followed by a mini-sandwich of Iberian pork shoulder. Again, excellent. On our tour we had two people from Latvia, two from Wales and six from the US. We shared our food adventures as well as our Spain highlights. I highly recommend this tour! read more

We booked the Malaga Evening Wine and Tapas Tour. There was another couple with us. This was an excellent tour. I'm glad we booked it as our guide have us the ins/outs, history, and must try places. In addition to the different food, wine, and experience. This is a must do when you first come to Malaga. They will give a lot of advice on which restaurants to go, which are tourist traps, and what to do. I can't recall but we went to 7 different restaurants to try the delicacies of Malaga along with wine. read more

Long overdue review of my incredible experience on the walking tour. It is perfectly designed to show you all of the highlights and hidden treasures of Malaga. The tour begins with smaller mom and pop shops and finished off at one of Malaga's swanky rooftops. For the price, I couldn't believe how much wine and food we were able to have (very well selected and paired wines and tapas). I ate before just incase (I'm American lol) but the food and wine provided on the tour was definitely sufficient. I was a solo traveler in my early 30's from NY, Javi made me feel safe and the group vibe was everything. This tour literally made my trip. This is our first trip to Spain. We wanted to experience culture and cusine. We thought we could get a head start by booking a Tapas tour. We chose Spain Food Sherpas. It was a great decision. Our guide, Simone was very easy to be with and had a true passion for Malaga and its food. She was extremely well versed on the history of the area as well as the gastronomic delights that Malaga has. We visited several bars and had drinks and Tapas each one more interesting than the last. They were all first rate. We also had a tour of the central market. It was very enlightening and we all said we had much better understanding of what to look for in terms of quality and origin thanks to Simone's insights. We highly recommend Simone and this tour. A friend booked our group of four for the small group tapas and wine tasting experience (the evening tour) with Spain Food Sherpas. We were all so glad she did. Javi, our guide, was knowledgeable and a lot of fun. We stopped in four different establishments, tasting a range of local meats & cheeses, regular and fortified wines, and Malagueñan tapas like croquettes and lightly fried aubergines drizzled with a molasses-honey mixture (delicious). It made for a delightful evening that was well worth the price. Highly recommended. read more

We had such a great experience. It started with a Málaga walking tour...the meat market, fish market, produce market...and we did a little shopping for our menu. This was followed up by a walk to the cooking school. Our guide, Felipe, was fun, amiable and truly enjoyed his job. Our chef, Amparo, was also fun and knowledgeable. We have 2 people in our party with food issues - the imperative one is our celiac who can have no gluten. The second, only eats fish. (Everybody else is easy!). The company we booked with, Viator, did NOT pass this information along to Spain Food Sherpas. However, as we were doing the walking tour of the markets, Felipe was probing and it came out. He had not received this information and was very surprised, but contacted Chef. He said it would be no problem, made a shopping modification and by the time we walked to the kitchen with our items, Chef had also made modifications and was happily ready for us! When we arrived at the cooking school, we began with a snack of bread (one GF) and a delicious olive oil tasting. Once we had energy we began to cook!! The culmination, of course, was sitting down with a glass of wine and eating our creations. It was more food than we could stuff in (we took doggie bags home!). Amparo (Chef) was very knowledgeable, the recipes were delicious and both she & our translator/guide, Felipe, truly enjoy working with people. I did the paella making class with the market tour, and it was great. Mayte, the tour guide, stopped a few times one the way to the market to tell us a little about some of the local stores and the history behind them, then we walked through the market, learning about different foods. I had already been to the market twice before the tour, so I didn't expect much, but I learned a lot. The paella class itself was a lot of fun and very educational. The instructor, Amparo, is very knowledgeable and made the class very enjoyable. I definitely recommend Spain Food Sherpas to anyone who likes food or likes cooking. read more

Fantastic cooking class. My friend and I signed up for the tapas class which included a tour of the market. Our guide Simone was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and professional AND told us how to order coffee in Spain the way we like it, which pretty much made the rest of our trip just a little more enjoyable! So. The market tour was great - if you don't know, it's a giant indoor food market that's split up into different sections for meat, seafood, and fruits/vegetables/nuts/spices. It's one of Malaga's highlights. The market tour also included some history and cultural information. After that we walked maybe 3 minutes to the school to start cooking. Everything we made was simple, traditional, and off-the-charts delicious. Simeone sent us the recipes and I've already made a couple of them since I've been home. My friend and I agree that this class was one of the best things we did in our two weeks in Malaga. Highly recommended! read more
