I've heard about Spanky's for a while now and finally decided to try it out with my lady. Honestly, I don't get the hype about this place. Ordered fried pickles to start out with. They were $5.99 and came fried in a salty batter and were covered in so much grease it was hard to tell I was eating a fried pickle. Next we ordered the Giovanna's Meatball. For a medium 13" pizza it was about $17.15. It was very sub par. The meatballs were dry and a bit flavorless. The cheese and the crust were whatever as well. Not worth $17.15!!! Also the atmosphere was a little too much to handle as well. It was packed full of obnoxious people and screaming bratty kids throwing their parents smart phones on the floor while their parents sat around drinking. Honestly, for someone who lives on the Northside, this place is too far and too over priced to even bother making a trip for. I could go to Star Pizza for the same price and a better Pizza or even better, go to Pepperoni's for a way cheaper price and get a pizza that tops this place any day. Lesson learned, don't believe the hype and won't ever be going back. read more

This was my first time coming to Spanky's. I've always passed by it on the highway. My friend and I wanted to eat somewhere good so she suggested Spanky's pizza. I got to the restaurant already ready to chow down, so I come to yelp to look at the pics just to see what other people have chosen. Well my eyes were bigger than my stomach lol... I end up getting the American skinz, wings ( they only have one flavor) and meat lovers small deep dish pizza. Everything I had was extremely tasty and very generous portions. Food is delicious ! The chili cheese fries are a must try. I am not a very good fan of pizza but their pizza is really good. They have a personal pan if you like something smaller. The environment is casual very laid back. They also have a bar, my favorite entree is the spaghetti and meatballs it is very good . The sweet tea is always fresh. The cheese sticks!!! read more

I called my order in, a small meat lovers pizza. The young lady that answered the phone was a bit rude. I asked a simple question, is this Spanky's? It was so loud in the background I couldn't hear her well is why I asked. She didn't respond, she just stayed on the line in silence..... Anyways, I placed my order and it was ready when I got their about 15 minutes later. Aside from the rude girl who took my order, the pizza is expensive for what you get. A small was $11 and some change! A small! Quality wise, it's Pizza Hut quality lol. I was disappointed. It's not better than Dominoes to put it into perspective. This used to be one of the places to go for a good time with friends. The atmosphere is pleasant and the service is prompt. There are various items on the menu for the whole family!!! We frequent this Location weekly. Spending upwards of $100 with great tips included. However, our last few outings have come with terrible customer service (we tipped anyway), no help from managers after voicing our concerns. We've been cut off, overlooked, ignored, not served. We will take our money elsewhere. I used to Rave about this place and their service. Now we won't be returning. I'd give it zero stars if I could. Response to feedback: #1We have never left without paying a tab. In that case, I'm sure we wouldn't have been allowed back. We stayed there and talked to 2 managers about the mistake on the tab before ANY OF US left your facility because we frequent so much. #2 we've never threw water at each other. Water was wasted and we asked multiple people to clean it or give us napkins to do so. #3 We've never wasted drinks near your entry way because we've always finished our drinks and NEVER ATTEMPTED to take drinks out of your establishment. Not to mention, HPD sits by the door and you can't take alcoholic beverages out of your restaurant. So to say your "Management Team" had so many issues with us, WITH HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT ALWAYS PRESENT IN YOUR ESTABLISHMENT while we were there, why allow us to come back EVERY WEDNESDAY? Why weren't we reprimanded by the police? My guest and I stayed to verify our receipts and everything was accounted for BY YOUR MANAGEMENT TEAM. As far as your guests, we've been approached by your guests with free drinks because they enjoyed us so much. The wasted water incident was over 2 months ago and we've been each Wednesday since. And no one from management approached us about customer complaints. So we're we really the issue? Regardless to the excuses, the waitstaff was below satisfactory. Considering one of your waitresses was the only waiter working for at least 45 minutes of our visit. You talked to one person on the waitstaff who didn't care for us from the first day we walked in. And due to her heresay, you come back with this outlandish response. Btw you gave us 24 wings and half of them are raw. The staff brought us a separate ticket after everyone in my party paid, brought change, credit cards and receipts. But you all waited til we were walking out the door with our receipts to come back with a fresh ticket. Be real, one of your waitresses dropped the ball on other patrons and tried to pass the bill to us. Unfair! We've never come to your establishment and skipped out on a bill or did not tip. And in conjunction to the lies in your response, you're still saying "Talk to Benoit if you all return". So we're such bad customers but you're still putting the olive branch out there for us to return. Poor customer service PERIOD. read more

I have eaten here since they opened in 1976. It has always been outstanding in service and quality of food. I am allergic to jalapenos and yesterday some handled some raw ones then made my pizza. The oils were on my pizza and made me violently ill. I called and talked to a manager to make him aware of certain allergies and have him make sure gloves are changed or hands thoroughly washed after handling peppers of any kind before making another pizza or dish. He said he would go talk to his help and I thanked him for that and hung up. No compensation for making me violently ill since it happened with the leftovers I brought home. Disappointed that he didn't even offer me anything. I wouldn't have taken it but he could have offered to make it right. read more

This place has great pizza and pasta, the waiter was extremely nice and always checked up on us many times which i appreciated. The super duper pizza tasted amazing especially with their ranch which seemed to be made homemade (maybe). Their fettuccine Alfredo was so creamy. I noticed they also gave out paper straws which i haven't seen any restaurant do this yet, I thought it was so cool and spreads awareness on the non recyclable plastic straws normally given out. read more

Best thin crust pizza ever!!!!! Their appetizers as well are amazing. You can't ever go wrong with their wings and cheese sticks.

Spanky's is a nice local place. My team usually comes in for lunch and gets the same thing each time: lunch special of pizza with 3 toppings and a side salad. Usually I only eat half the salad (nothing too special). But the personal pizzas are really good. I like to put different toppings each time to try something new. I end up taking half the pizza home for dinner. We also get the fried pickles as an appetizer which are yummy and I don't even like pickles! Sometimes the waitresses disappear for no reason and you can't get a refill but that really depends on the server. We've had both good and bad ones. The place is almost always packed for lunch. read more

Called tonight at 9:35 pm to place a pick up order. Person who picked up, answered like he was going to take my order. As i proceeded to tell him i wanted to order to go, he told me they closed at 9. I beforehand had looked online and it said they closed at 10. Once I said that he hung up the phone on me. He could have easily clarified to me that they stop taking orders at a certain time but instead he decided to be rude and hang up. If this is how they treat their customers, I will not be ordering from them again. Not even pizza hut hangs up on its customers. Do better Spanky's. read more

This is one of the best places in Houston for PIZZA! Been coming to Spanky's since I was a kid at the original location. I dont think I have ever had a bad experience here, even if I were to, the food makes up for it. Im just being honest. I'd definitely like to applaud the friendly staff for always getting my order correct and in a timely manner. Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking to a young lady named Jasmine. She was just the sweetest. I Picked up dinner after work last Wednesday and she made sure to offer me the Wednesday specials. I was going to get a Large Pepperoni Passion for me and my fam, but Jasmine recommended I get the Wednesday special which is a Large 1 topping pizza. I chose that and was able to save some bucks! :) I was grateful, as I was not aware of the special that evening. I will be asking for her on my future visits/calls. read more

I have been a customer of the Gulfgate location since the early 1980s. The food has never disappointed and with few changes has stayed consistent over the decades. Love, love, love this restaurant. The food and staff are awesome. FYI: my favorite lunch item is the Italian Poboy with homemade potato chips. (It's not on the newly reprinted menus -"oopsy!"- but it's still available, so please feel free to ask for it.) The pizza is pie perfection!They have pretty great salads, but don't think that they're for the "lite" eaters. (They are a meal.) Lots of TVs throughout the entire restaurant (not just at the bar) so it's a great place to watch a game (any game). Enjoy. read more

Service is horrible. Waitstaff are very uninviting. Food is okay if you don't know any better but most of all, my sisters car was broken into along with 3 other vehicles. I want to give this 3.5 but Yelp only takes amateur scoring. The flavor of the pizza was good however the overall product was very similar to Pizza Hut or any other chain. Very doughy crust like a typical "hand tossed" product from a chain. That would have been acceptable if it were not that we ordered NY style which was one of the options offered to us. NY style should not be that doughy and floppy. Again, the taste was good but the product was relatively generic chain style. I also had the Greek salad. It was very large and had good amount of toppings. A little more dressing than I would have preferred but should have asked for it on the side.
