Until today that is when I had an altercation with a lady (the one with the black hair and the designation LADY being questionable) whom I assume is the new Manageress as she has not been long in the shop. I was paying in coins at the Post Office counter, something I do on a regular basis, when she poked her nose in and said that unless the coins were in the amounts designated on the bags they should not be accepted. I informed her that I had never encountered this with any of the staff and I suggested that a notice of policy should be displayed at the counter. I was on the point of walking out with my money in my pocket however the male staff member I was dealing with carried on with my transaction. She poked her nose in again and tallied up my pay-in as she obviously does not trust her staff to do so themselves. Other members of staff on duty at the time noticeably displayed their embarrassment at her behaviour. I have some words of advice for her. Firstly try to smile occasionally, something I have never seen since she appeared on the scene. Treat your customers with the dignity and respect which they afford you. Don't make up rules and regulations which your staff are not aware of as you go along. Remember that your customers pay your wages. Local businesses are constantly crying out for support to remain viable. Little wonder that people go elsewhere if they encounter people with your attitude. The next time I see you in the shop I may just exercise that prerogative and walk out.

This isn't a shop that l often go to as l have to pass another Co-op if l was to go to this one l feel the co-op is quite an over priced shop and they don't seem to stock as much selection as they used to. Shocked, appalled and quite possibly shocked again... no, thats not…read moremy reaction to not having reviewed a place where I've done a good bit of regular shopping for the best part of 6 months now. No thats the feeling you get from some members of staff if you ask them a question, insist on them going just a tiny bit out of their way or maybe just breathe a wee bit too loudly. All this said though, this is a fairly big store with half decent stock, reasonable prices and, here is the 4th star kicker, it's very convenient for anyone who jumps off at Kelvinbridge tube station. Add this to the 'I shop at my local co-op whilst you throw your money into the fat cats big trough and watch while they gorge themselves stupid' feeling of superiority you get when walking out, and you have yourself a fine wee shop. Ooh, the 'wee' shop I mention above.... exactly that. Don't expect to be able to stretch out between aisles or maneuver a buggy around here without attracting a heavy mist of disgruntled exhalation from the staff. All in the fun though.

Though considering my past record this could mean anything from a few times a week to once every three years... Anyway, as Eleanor pointed out this is a pretty large Spar and thus has a good selection of all the usual grocers. This is particularly, handy and useful for those along the fruit and veg lines as well as prepacked sandwiches. As it's unlikely you'll find products up to a similar standard of these in the numerous corner shops and newsagents scattered around locally. Hence, it's either this Spar or the Sainsbury's further along Clarkston Road. Fair enough, Sainbury's isn't all that much further and does, obviously, have a much better selection - being a supermarket and all - but this Spar is that little bit handier for a few quality items. For instance, today we popped in here on the way from stocking up from Discount Pet Supplies and to a pub lunch. So an excellent addition which fits nicely into a niche market between the newsagents and Sainsbury's massive supermarket. Plus, there's a free of charge cash machine attached to the wall just outside, which is also of great use.

Very Tiny Spar Store…read more Not very wheelchair accessible friendly, even you need to leave all the pram and buggies outside. It opens from 8am until 10pm all time around. Have the bank machine inside the store It is usual spar for top up your shoppings.

You will find the odd deal but a bottle of mediocre wine can end up setting you back more than you bargined for. Open every day of the year though! Christmas day and New Years day included so it is definitely a shop focused on the community

I'm really not a fan of supermarket shopping in the city centre - thankfully I don't have to do it…read morevery often. I popped in here to grab some last minute snacks for an event at the nearby Craft Pottery. This is a small Sainsbo's with a small-ish range. They did have everything I needed though - which was crisps and paper towel. The guy on the checkout was exceptionally helpful so big shoutout to him (Daniel, I think his name was) and packed the crisps into bags with flair like I've never seen at Waitrose. He's the reason this is a 4 not a 3-star review. Prices are reasonable, they have a good range of home brand crisps and a few of the varieties are even vegan (who knew bacon crispies would be made from beetroot?!). I'd go here over the nearby Tesco, for sure.

A decent Sainsbury's Local on Sauchiehall Street…read more 'Local' roughly translates as a shop that is really small, based on the size of this one and that's the main annoyance here is that it can be a bit cramped. They do a decent bakery and it's good for picking up bits and bobs if you're going to the GTF for e.g. but if there's a Co-Op and Tesco just up the road a bit and a proper big Sainbury's down the road in the opposite direction which stops me from actively seeking this place out.

A good wee local Co-Op with good promotions on juice and other bits and bobs that changes every few…read moreweeks. It's cramped inside and it's not always well stocked so it can be a bit hit and miss. They have a modest range of beers wines and spirits, with regular promotions on different drinks. I quite like Co-op's own brand of most things, including their cold meat and bakery products. It's a bit dearer than Asda or Tesco and the other big boys, but I still find myself going back. A busy enough wee place.

They have a really good selection of sweets if that's what you're in the mood for! Word of advice: they are very strict on age laws for tobacco products and alchohol. If you look under 25 bring ID!

As a bank, I quite like the Co-Op but I don't think they do any justice to supermarkets…read more This one seems to be pretty typical of the Co-Operative Food stores - messy, crowded and a pretty dull selection of items, while being overpriced. Even if I was at these small shops at the Broom, I would probably still go out of my way to go to a supermarket elsewhere (e.g. Asda or M&S at the Avenue, Waitrose by the M77) because this one is just a bit rubbish.

Great staff , very helpful especially the wee guy with the beard; Steven i think is his name always a smile and a happy chat to customers which doesn't seem to figure much these days to people especially in areas like Newton Mearns which is a shame! Yes prices are not the cheapest but there is more to life than price which everyone seems obsessed with and the Co-Op has always been there to help ordinary folks and still does so I feel good supporting them whether in Brodick in Arran when I am on holiday over there or here in Newton Mearns. Don't forget your co-op card when you go with 5% cashback and 1% to charity! Clean and organised layout with most of what you need for emergency supplies and top up food. The store is a top up shop and is really used by the surrounding locals in the Broom area who dont have cars or from the many retirement homes dotted all around it. Very convenient and opens till 10pm which is great 7 days a week! Always a cheery sight when you get off the bus late at night just outside and need some milk or bread and long may the store continue.

This is certainly convenient and it does the job. However, I would rather walk a few minutes up to S & A Food Stores. Mainly due to the claustrophobic feeling that can easily be felt upon stepping into Ashy's. It's also a result of other customer's in Ashy's who seem indifferent to you at best, and down right rude at worst. Something which is a big pet hate of mine. I suppose, this comes with the territory of having people double park and jump into your shop for ciggies and the like.

It's a rather small shop, but they manage to cram an awful lot of good in. They have special offers each week and they'll often have buy one get one free on cans of juice or bottled water. A few times I've failed to spot these offers but the staff will always point out if I'm missing out on a bargain! The staff are also really friendly and you always get served with a smile.
