Very reasonable pricing, no contracts, tons of class times, and great people. All levels, from beginners to black belts, train here. The environment is very welcoming. Competition is encouraged but not required, and there are many very successful competitors here in different age ranges, weight classes, and belt levels. Focusing on the kid's side for this review: Started about 3 years ago with my 4 year old daughter. We came for a trial class and enjoyed it, so decided to keep training. Another big factor was the female ownership and strong female membership. I wanted my daughter to have those examples to look up to. We have never done any martial arts or wrestling before, so I wasn't sure how either of us would fair. My daughter loves her coaches and they really do a great job of keeping things fun yet disciplined and engaging. They all genuinely care about their students. They make sure everyone is safe and working together in a controlled way. Coach Jen and Coach Kat started her off with Wee Warriors and the basic skills. She has been able to move up and promote into the more advanced classes with Coach Kari and Coach Eli. She also loves helping with the younger kids whenever she can with Coach (and owner) Karen, Coach Eli, or Coach Jen. It's nice that all of the coaches generally work together and help eachother, and there are many other coaches that I am sure I am neglecting to mention who have contributed to my daughter's progress. The lessons are consistent no matter who is leading the class, and generally build on the previous lessons or review skills already taught. Plenty of private and small group lessons available as well for extra training if desired. The more my daughter participates and engages with her coaches, friends, training partners, and other competitors, the more she enjoys being at Genesis Jiu Jitsu. The thought of starting BJJ overweight and with no cardio seemed very intimidating. Picking the right gym was essential. What sets 413 apart is Pedro Rocha. He's a world class fighter with many titles, belts, awards etc. Super impressive dude and worth a google! Once the hubs tried the free intro class- he was hooked! Pedro and the other professors made him feel comfortable. They were all patient, classmates were eager to help and everyone was understanding. The gym is the perfect size. Classes are not too big and not too small so you get plenty of coaching. Treatment at 413 is a testament to Pedro. When you join 413 you join a family. Everyone helps everyone. You can trust that you are not going to get hurt. You can ease into it at your own pace. There is no pressure to compete but if you choose to- you could not ask for a better coach.
