all that I needed was the front end alignment. I did not need caster/camer, simply the tow. This was expressed upon a phone call and in person meet as well as a secondary phone call before taking the vehicle in. During these interactions, I assured them that there were other problems with the vehicle. I.e: a rip in the passenger CV shaft boot (inner), locked rear caliper (piston) and other suspension problems. All I needed was to align the tow due to inner and outer tie rods being replaced, so that I could continue working on the car. five hours later I received a phone call that they could not work on my car due to the rear caliper making the rear tire hard to rotate. (has absolutely nothing to due with front end tow). Once I arrived to pick up, my car was charged a diagnostic fee. This diagnostic fee said exactly what I said on a recorded line, as well as what was on the receipt. They charged me for problems expressed that had nothing to do with the service that was requested on the vehicle. I told them (before even bring the vehicle in) what was wrong with the car. No alignment was done.. if I had the magnetic tools or even a laser to do it, I could've done it myself, but instead, I needed to get it done before I continued working on the car. They failed to provide that service (they promised) and still charged me me for literally nothing. They providing zero service. I'm all about local shops, but this isn't one you should pay your hard earned money too. read more

Discount, Bell, even the small engine repair shop in Howell said they would not touch my oversized 1972 minibike rims with new tires. Spartan Tire in Howell went over and above mounting the 21-11-8 tires with tubes. I could not be happier. All the negative reviews are from Karen's. Rotten Customer Service, Rude, condesending, hang up on you On 6/21/22 I brought 2 compact tractor tires to Spartan Tire to have the valve stems changed because one had begun to leak. These tires contained liquid ballast (10 gal each @ $4.70/gal. The employee said they could do the work after we had discussed the liquid and how to do the job without loosing little or no liquid and I thought they had experience with these types of tires. When I returned the job had been completed and NO ballast liquid remained in either tire. I ask why and was told "The liquid just shot everywhere". I ask why they started the second tire knowing they couldn't do the job without loosing the ballast the manager had no reply. I asked if they would reload the tires and was told they didn't have the capability or the knowledge. I was charged $20 for their service which I paid and left. I took the tires to Green Oak Tire and had the tires reloaded and they confirmed my previous experience with ballast tires that the stems can be changed without loosing the ballast liquid. It cost $140 to refill the tires. Upon returning to Spartan tire and talking to the manager he said that they would not pay for the reloading, not even an apology. I left a copy of the bill and told the manager I needed to speak to the owner, who was not in at the time. I was told that I would get a call back the next day. I called the next day and was told that Matt the owner was not in but would be the next day. I call the next day and got the same story, until they knew what I was calling about and surprise Matt got on the phone and rudely told me no way they were going to pay. No compromise, no apology. read more

Had yet another issue with my 2009 Saturn. Missed a day of work because it was only going 20 mph and the engine lights were flashing... I gave it no second thought to take it to the only car shop that I know will be honest and thorough. Steve immediately diagnosed it and later even waved the diagnostic fee, which I am so grateful for. I was in and out quickly. It's sad to read the complaints as every time I have had service with Spartan, the customers in the waiting room always give high praise but are either elderly or just unaware that they could leave a good review. Rip-off. Got a quote to fix the air conditioning in my car. $540 without any warranty. $900 if I wanted a warranty. I called two other local shops and can get it done with a warranty for $400-$440 from either of the other places. I'm taking it to one of the other shops tomorrow. He said he *may* be able to fix it for under $50. But he guarantees no more than $420. I'll update this is soon as I know. Yep. Just got a call from the other shop. It's fixed for $422 with a warranty . That's $120 less than Spartan tire without a warranty. And $480 less than Spartan tire with warranty. read more

I sent my wife with two tires to mount, balance and install on the rear of her car. Simple, right? Well, not to the techs. They discarded the front tires (the better of the existing four) and installed the NEW tires on the front. Anyone will tell you that with front wheel drive thos can be a hazard when braking on slippery pavment. It took a total of three hours to get it right. Ugh! read more

Lou was the most condescending and arrogant person I have experienced in regards to customer service. When I got to the shop to get my tire fixed, he made me feel guilty and essentially shamed me for calling more than once about my tire issue. When I confronted him about it he said "it was a joke". I wouldn't go back here simply because of how I was treated. He also couldn't give me an accurate price for what I was coming in for. He said "well I didn't know what vehicle you were bringing in, it's different pricing for yours". He could have asked me what vehicle I had before bringing it in. I called and made an appt for my daughter to get her frt brakes and rotors replaced since I had just had shoulder surgery and normally do all of our auto repairs. I told the owner that my daughter would be waiting for the car and he said they would start on her car at her appt time. They were running behind on another vehicle and she had to go ask what was going on, she said they were a bit rude in replying to her. The main problem is that I decided to do her rear brakes today. No problem. We drove the car and she was telling me about the new noises she was hearing since getting her car back from Spartan. I heard a lot of noise, decided to take off the fronts to take a look, I grabbed the lug wrench to get ready to crank them off, but they were loose! I continued to take 2 more off by hand, went to the other side and noticed 2 lugs missing. Jacked up that side and took off 2 lug nuts by hand and one with the wrench with minimal effort. If you care for the safety of your family members. Do not take your car here. If there is one thing that you should be doing at a tire store to ensure the safety of the driver. It is to torque the lugs to specification, I just say thank GOD I saw this before she list a tire on the freeway. read more

Really great service. I arrived as soon as the store opened. The two men at the counter were polite and ready to help. They had diagnosed the vehicle in 30 minutes and I was out of the store with my vehicle fixed in under 2 hours. During the repair, I stayed there and they were very polite to see if I need anything (table, power outlet, coffee...). Price was better than I was expecting. It is nice to drive up a hill and have my vehicle run smooth! I highly recommend Spartan Tire. read more

My boyfriend went in to get dome tires mounted today. he asked the price first and they said $6-8 depending on the tire. They asked him what kind they were and he told them racing tires. The lady at the counter said she doesn't like racing so they would be $12 each. What a load of crap to double the price because you don't like the sport or tires! They didn't even properly inflate one of the two tires to properly seat it on the wheel! Much better service at Discount Tire for only $10 a tire. read more

I Will never go back there,,,they charged me $600 for service on my truck but couldn't finish it but said it was fixed, Then i took it to another well known place with a fantastic rating and they said they had to redo everything Spartan tire did and to top it off, Spartan Tire broke wiring and just zip tide it together, the new place had to rewire everything,,no wonder i was having so much trouble with it. read more

We have taken our cars there several times over the years. Each time, they provided us with a written estimate before the work was done. Any changes were called in before work started with rationale as to why they needed to be done. One time, they even discovered it was cheaper for us to have the dealer do the work and they referred us to them. They always look out for the best interests of the customer. BUYER BEWARE!!!!! I purchased a set of four tires from Spartan about four months ago because they came in at the same price out the door for tires mounted with free flat repair as it would have been to order through tire rack after mounting but without free flat repair. That was a mistake I will NOT make again. I ended up with a flat on my right front tire that I took in for repair. No problem, they said they would check it out and replace it. Turned out the sidewall was damaged so I needed to purchase a new tire. This is fairly standard even with free flat repair so I thought nothing of it and purchased a new tire, had them mounted and went on my way. Two weeks later to the day I noticed a bulge in the newly replaced tire. I took it back expecting the same service I had before and they would replace it at no cost to me. I was wrong. The first thing that they tried to tell me was that it was caused by road damage. This was impossible because my room was not bent and the rear tire would have had the same exact issue and it was in perfect condition. The owner continued to argue the point and was refusing to place the tire at no cost until it was pointed out to him that his registration with the state of Michigan implied that he was guaranteeing the tire. At this point all of his arguments stopped. He called the manufacturer of the tire and after much grumbling and back and forth he finally agreed to order the tire. However, he still charged me to mount the new tire after it arrived. Because of the run around that I was given regarding replacing a clearly defective tire, I am in serious doubt as to whether or not my original tire that went flat was truly in need of replacement or if they were just trying to make a quick buck on me. I will absolutely never use their services again and would tell any and every person to stay away. They have great customer service when you're handing over money but when it comes to collecting from them for defects in equipment or workmanship their real customer service policy emerges. Once again, buyer beware. FYI - I have NO problem whatsoever giving this company credit for the good initial service they provided me or giving them credit for finally fixing the issue of a defective tire. What I take issue with is the fact they were trying to railroad me and that when you really need them that's when they do their best to take advantage of you. read more

Turns out I had a leak and they were able to fix it within 15 minutes, no appointment needed, for $20. This was great as I was going out of town later that day and really needed it fixed then. Worked on my brakes did a good job for a good price. But when I went to give him my card he said it didn't go through so they had to TAKE MY CARD AND SHREAD IT. Even after I gave him cash. So instead of like a normal place that would give you your card back because it didn't go through they just cut it. And not even in front of me either. He didn't explain why this was happening very well either just told me some lady on the phone told him to do it and it was "company policy". I just had some work done at another auto shop a couple days ago and they had no trouble using it. I was not happy today to say the least. Will not be returning. read more

So disappointed with this business. Took a tire in to get repaired on a Friday morning. They said it would be done Friday afternoon. Went in and the tire wasn't done. The guy behind the counter was extremely rude. He doesn't know how to communicate with people.They said they would call, no call that day or the next! Now Monday rolls around and the tire is done and they want $20. Two days later the tire is FLAT. If they were short-handed they could have just said so, and I would have taken it elsewhere. Instead they were impolite and rude. I just had another tire repaired on a different vehicle at Belle Tire, free of charge, same day service and FRIENDLY staff. Now I will be taking the flat tire up to Belle to get it repaired again. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from Spartan Tire. read more

I hate writing bad reviews, but, well, got to. I Had a power steering pump replaced in the wife's truck. Wife complained of a minor noise coming from it when she drove it. Colder weather and I start driving it and the noise is awful. I call and they tell me they don't have a mechanic. I take it by so they can just hear it....NOPE! I come back yet another day and make an appointment. I come from the eastside and wait for an hour while the truck just sits in the lot and am told "A customer is standing right there with the mechanic.". Is that what it takes to get something done? Under warranty? Is that what they're selling? I have to hound the tech the whole time I'm there? I work some crazy long hours and drive well over 100 miles a day to get there. I don't have the time to be run around. I've seen some pretty Mickey Mouse setups, but they top it. NEVER AGAIN! Warranty...PFFTH! What good is a warranty when it's impossible to have a concern addressed? read more
