Super awesome place!! Went here last night for my birthday after reading reviews on Yelp and wanting to try someplace new. We couldn't make a reservation because they only take reservations for 5 people or more, but the hostess had assured me when I called that we should be fine. When we got there, there were only high top tables available which I didn't think would work for my father, when I told the hostess she said to give her 5 minutes or so and would have a regular table for us, and right she was. Based off of reviews, we started with the avocado fries and the crab guacamole and chips. I personally loved both. The avocado fries are definitely a personal preference for people due to their unique consistency/taste. I really liked them as well as the spicy/sweet Thai chili dipping sauce. The crab meat guacamole was literally out of this world. I was a bit hesitant with the crab meat and not wanting it to overpower the taste of the guac but it was soooo good! Could have had more. For dinner, I had the short rib grilled cheese with sweet potato strings. The short rib on this sandwich was crazy crazy good. So moist, truly delicious. It was huge and the potato strings were piled 10 feet high so I only had half but made sure to take the rest home. My mom got the Brooklyn style grilled cheese on the garlic bread and she said it was amazing as well. My girlfriend had the chicken taco tidbits and really liked it and my father had the caprese panini and finished it all. We also ordered an plate of the bacon cheeseburger Mac and cheese for the table which was very good, but very rich. Had I ordered it myself I don't know if I'd be able to finish it. We didn't splurge for dessert because we were way too stuffed. I didn't give this 5 stars for two reasons. 1- the parking was awful. My dad dropped us off and then looked for a parking spot for the next half hour and ended up parking about a mile away. Granted it was a Friday night and you're in long beach, totally understandable. However, it was a downer. Also, our dinner took about double the time it should have to come out. Thankfully the appetizers filled us all up and we weren't starving. The waitress did come over and apologize a few times saying she didn't know why it was taking so long and it would be out soon, which again, I totally get. But, it did take quite a while. I was there for dinner the other night, the kitchen was very very backed up which did start to get a little bit annoying but it was OK, our server Mia was wonderful and extremely sweet. Unfortunately, there was another table that was very very rude to her and every other employee that passed by them. It was extremely upsetting to us that they would treat somebody like that during this time, had there been a manager on duty, maybe it could've been handled or even have asked them to leave they were so rude and self entitled, which made our experience that much more stressful. The food was great- my table got the avocado fries, tuna tartare, surf n turf mac and cheese, and pulled pork tostada. The avocado fries are awesome but I'm not sure I could have more than a few. Tuna tartare was great also- it was made a bit differently than I have usually had but it tasted great. The surf and turf mac and cheese was my favorite, and it's definitely a full dish. I'm from Queens so I was in the neighborhood on a Saturday in May to take a walk around the area and boardwalk it was 6 years since Ive been around and after my walk I felt thirsty and wanted a bite for lunch and I found Speakeasy which as from prior reviews are spot on. My bartender Sara was very attentive and provided great service. Speakeasy has a many beers to choose from I went with a Guinness and learned they have a Guinness book which if you sign up for what they call the 100 pint club and you get your name on the wall behind the bar on the wall with plaques with purchase of a Guinness. For food I ordered the short rib grilled cheese which was delicious it came on Texas toast with hand cut fries you get a choice of shoestring sweet potato fries if you prefer. With more than just bar food, it's definitely one of my favorite spots in Long Beach and quickly becoming my favorite on the West End. This place has an awesome vibe inside with its reclaimed-esque wood interior, loud fun nighttime music, the latest sporting events on big screen T.V.s, a decent tap beer selection, and delicious food. Cool place,very friendly service food was ok nothing I would go back for. We got a few of the appetizers,the Skillet mac & cheese,the wing sampler, parmesan fries and the duck grill cheese. Mac and chess was to greasy,the wings were average, the Parmesan fries was not what I expected,it was a bunch of fries with Parmesan cheese just thrown on top I thought it would be a little bit more melted or something,but the duck grilled cheese was really good. After hours at the beach, me and my friends were starving. While it looks good as soon as you get in- dark brown wood furniture, TVs, a cozy looking bar, tables, and a friendly staff- the food doesn't really measure up. I admit I was a tad impatient at how long the food was taking to cook, about 25 minutes maybe, and there seemed to be only one waiter handling the tables, the service was friendly, water glasses were refilled quickly. One annoying thing- they got my fries wrong and it's one of the reasons why I hate when waiters don't have a pad of paper in front of them! They forget things; it's only natural and human! As for the food itself, I wasn't a fan of the avocado fries. They were breaded and fried, but it was bland, no taste in the bread crumbs, and the creamy texture of the avocado didn't seem to go well with the whole fried aspect. Like, I expected crunchy when something is fried, even if I know that avocado isn't crunchy- just a mental thing. But that's a personal preference. It looked like it was cooked well, so no complaints really. I go chicken taco bites. I think it was overpriced for one thing, at $13. It comes out looking like two long pieces of garlic bread- except it has a layer of sour cream, chicken, cheese, and pico de gallo (in that exact order). It sounded good in the description, but because of the sour cream being on the bread itself, instead of on the side, the bread became soggy and the texture/consistency of each bite was a bit icky. And as I mentioned earlier, I originally ordered their french fries as opposed to sweet potato straws, but I got the latter, and wasn't happy. Since they were so thin, it was easy to burn them, and the subtle sweet flavor was quickly overpowered. I didn't tell them about the mistake, since it would take longer to give me a new batch of fries, and me and my friends had to head home at a certain time. The menu had a lot of choices, and I'm sure if I ordered something else, like wings and a burger or something, I would have enjoyed it a lot better. But it was kind of loud, even though it wasn't crowded. There were two large groups, and another smaller group at the end, and they were all very loud, probably one too many drinks. Since it was an early dinner, at 5ish PM, I wasn't really in the mood to deal with drunken yelling or comments. We came to this restaurant by accident. The place we meant to go to was closed. I'm so glad we went here. The waiter was great. The bar had a old time feel to it. We had the huge pretzel for a appetizer and fried avocado. They were so tasty. The pretzel was so soft. I had the cajun shrimp wrap and regular fries. They gave you so much food and I had food to take home! My coworkers loved their dishes too. I can't wait to go back here. The waiter was kind and understanding. The owner was pretty cool too. I'm giving two stars not for the food but for the ambiance of a small college bar and the decent music piped in to the thumping speakers. Our waitress was great but I believe she was the only one on during our busy Friday night visit. It took about 15 minutes to receive our drinks after each round we ordered. After waiting about 45 minutes for our food, we asked the waitress to please check on our order. It promptly came out Luke warm making me believe that it had been sitting in the kitchen for some time. As far as the food goes, well mediocre at the best. My burger and fries was ok, the avacodo fries....well, why have I never seen avacodo fries on any other resturaunt menu in my life, because fried avacodo is discusting! This was a no for me. Looked nice from outside, so we popped in for lunch. Understaffed, so service was very slow. Server was kinda weird. We're a block from the ocean and she told us not to order the clam chowder as it was underwhelming to most people. We inquired to why someone doesn't teach the chef how to make it better, as its pretty popular in a beach town...no good answer. So we ended up getting a few things, one of which was the pork rib "poutine". Last I looked, poutine involved cheese curd. Not bad - when this place is less crowded, it probably isn't too terrible. It's a little pricey, but overall, the beer selection is pretty decent. I had myself a Delirium and their blueberry beer (the name escapes me). The bathrooms are in a really awkward location, though - they are to the side of the kitchen in this narrow hallway, which creates a line where you feel like you're in everyone's way. Went here on an early Saturday afternoon. We were hoping to have the outdoor seating but was told that there was a private party taking place later on that afternoon and the outdoor area was already set up for that. We were a bit disappointed being that it was such a beautiful early summer afternoon, but no biggie. The ambience was cool and the staff was very helpful. I had the tomato mozzarella caprese which was delicious. The vinaigrette dressing definitely made it extra delicious. The best part of the food had to be the sweet potato string fries. Overall a cool place to grab some food before or after the beach. Prices were way reasonable as well. Our bill came out to be just a little over $70 for the four of us. If you live in Long Beach, you should be a regular. If you visit Long Beach, you should come here. There is nothing like a weekend afternoon spent brunching on their breakfast burrito and unlimited mimosas. As the weather gets better, I can't wait for the next time I can do this next to their open windows. But until then, there is nothing that warms and fills you like Speakeasy comfort food staples, easily the best in Long Beach. Come for the avocado fries and tomato soup with grilled cheese, and stay for the funnel cake fries. A friendly place full of friendly faces, I would make the trek back to my old hometown for this place even if my parents didn't still live here. I'm waiting for an excuse to celebrate something in their party room, and crossing fingers that the city will finally let them combine the two spaces to make this the awesomest location ever. read more

Speakeasy probably has to be my favorite restaurant in Long Beach. I've never tried something I didn't like here and always am eager to go back! We always make sure to get the avocado fries, which are served with a Thai sweet chili sauce. I've tried to replicate these at home and they're never the same...so I continue to go back and order these EVERY SINGLE TIME! I've also had the crab guacamole, which is super delicious and fresh. They give you a generous portion of crab meat and it always tastes so incredibly fresh. Another favorite of mine are the Tuna Lettuce Wraps, which I get for an entree. So good! They're served with a wasabi sauce and a fish sauce with julienne carrots, zucchini and onions. It's just the perfect amount of food for one if you're looking for an entree that won't leave you feeling guilty afterward, but completely satisfied! The black bean burger is also TO DIE FOR! It's a good portioned burger served with a portobello mushroom and goat cheese that's flash fried in panko bread crumbs. I tend to get it off of the bun and eat it with a fork and knife so I can really taste the burger without the bread getting in the way. It's also really great with the Thai sweet chili sauce! Skip the regular fries and go right for the sweet potato shoestrings. They give you so many that you'll have enough for a snack later on or the next day...easy to pop in the oven for about 10 minutes and DONE! Speakeasy will always be my go-to when I want to go out, but can't think about what I'm in the mood for because it always satisfies me and I'm never disappointed!
