Just beside the Royal Scottish Academy art gallery is an paved area known as speakers corner. Over the years it has changed from an area for socialists to preach communism, to official punk central in the 1970, where there seemed to be a permanent tallest mohican contest. Unfortunately during the next decade it was where the winos met, drank, threw up and slept.
As the fringe festival grew the council gave the area a makeover and now during the festival there are stalls and street acts giving bystanders a taste to drum up demand for their full show. I think there must be a bylaw that states there must be a man on a unicycle and a south american pan pipe band, who are dressed as red indians.
Its a great place to go sit and watch the world; at festival time it truly is the whole world. read more
