Got a free sight test and a second pair of glasses after purchasing one pair. The staff were helpful and no appointment was required. I just walked in and got my new glasses two days later. read more

Since then, I've always been very impressed with the extremely high level of customer service when I've visited the shop again to get my glasses adjusted. On previous occasions and again today, I've also had the little plastic nose rests replaced - for free! It's always refreshing when you feel that a shop is offering above average service - Vision Express in Uxbridge certainly does that!

Turner, the old fool, then refused to acknowledge the scratches on my lenses and basically did not seem to know what he was doing. When i said i was going to make a complaint Turner, then made up lies about me being abusive, which is NOT true and was not shown on any CCTV. I made a complaint with the NHS and Turner tried to slime his way out of it, and was very slow in responding to my letters and got his secretary to do it all because he is a coward. His secretary is also a bitch. They clearly are treating customers badly and just lying and being obstinate to get out of it. Have not set foot in there since. There are plenty of opticians in Uxbridge, dont bother with this one. Also, i notice now the NHS sign outside the shop has been painted over, so looks like they do not take NHS customers anymore. When you go past the shop have a look, can you see the painted over NHS sign too?

The eye tests are very good and the optician spends sometime checking your eyes and conducting a number of tests, plus providing advice about eye care. I think this was much better than the chains out there.

Once I did get an appointment though, it was all smooth. Good service, good prices. I'd give them 3.5 stars if I could, but have to stick to 3 since my initial experiences don't justify 4 stars. When I got started, a staff-member took me to a couple of machines to measure the health of my eyes and get a ballpark prescription. The optician was thorough and really patient, explaining to me at all stages what he was doing.

It was slightly difficult to get an appointment (the first time I called their system was down, so I had to try again twice before they could find me a time...) Once I made it to my appointment I was really impressed. To start with, a member of staff took me to a couple of machines (one blew air into my eyes - to test for glaucoma?), another checked how well my eyes focused to give a rough guide on what prescription I need. After that I got to meet the optician. She was thorough, really helpful and answered my questions about all the tests (I was curious!) She only looked at the machine results right at the end, to compare them to her findings... I didn't feel rushed at all, and it seemed like they tested my eyes in sooo many different ways. After she was finished, she wrote out my prescription, but then didn't charge me for the eye test. I'm not sure why...maybe they had a special offer or something!? After that I spent ages wandering around and trying on different pairs of glasses, but I couldn't find any that I liked, so I didn't buy any from them in the end. Their prices are really reasonable, so I wish that they had some that suited me. Ah well.

The staff are always very friendly and my glasses are always ready on time. They've got a good choice of frames and never push you into buying the most expensive or the extras that can really push the cost of glasses right up.

Then he used the machine that blows puffs of air into them to check for diabetes and glaucoma. In the middle of this test the optician came up behind him and told him that the machines wouldn't give any results as I was wearing contacts this should've been an obvious question as my prescription is so deep that I can't see without any lenses hrmmm apparently it was 'let's play qualified optician' day for the staff. Meanwhile, I was happy with the actual service and examination from the optician that attended to me although I made sure to skip the sales pitch after the appointment, from the psudeo assistant that did my initial 'tests'. Hopefully I'll be ok with the new prescription she provided. I have strong doubts about the healthcare system in this country and today's visit to specsavers just proved my concerns.

But as if staff being rude and unhelpful to customers isn't enough, it turns out that they're just as bad when dealing with specsavers headquarters. I was informed that after my last contact lense order, it took headquarters 10 days to get someone at this branch to answer a telephone call. Well, they've definitely lost my confidence, and I certainley won't be visiting them again.

And no glaucoma screening. But my optometrist at Specsavers in Clapham Junction was great. And the eye exam price was incredibly competitive. The service of the rest of the staff was a bit "meh." I still haven't purchased glasses as the "up front" pricing was £90 less than the lenses my prescription requires. And that 2nd pair free offer? Yeah, doesn't include lenses. :( That and, even though I spelled it out to the gal at the register, both my first and last names were spelled wrong on my documents. Which is really ridiculous. Anyhow. I've had better. And I've had worse. I'm waiting for my trial contact lenses to arrive. Probably will go with the cheap frames I saw that I sort-of liked just to have a pair. paying nearly 4x the cost of frames to get lenses that aren't coke bottle-esque.
