Power out at my cottage so we decided to go to a restaurant. Wow, what a pleasant surprise, this place is a gem on east side of Algonquin Park near Barry's Bay. Delicious Buffet for Sunday Brunch! The Lunch Buffet looked amazing too! Everything is home made, and large selection to eat, reasonable price. $16 for Breakfast Buffet or $22 for Lunch. All you can eat and worth every penny. Everyone at our table agreed this is the best restaurant in the area and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. Staff very polite and welcoming. Beautiful view of Spectacle Lake from the dining area and outdoor patio. Very clean indoors and outside, nice landscaping and flower gardens. You can tell the owners and staff take great pride in this place. A young couple just had their wedding here and it is a lovely place. We are definitely going back! read more

So terrible restaurant. We went restaurant with a group of 56 people from Algonquin Park on October 15th.The restaurant was booked almost 3 months in advance. They did not have food prepared for us. The restaurant manager/owner was a very rude person and did not accept that food items were missing from the ordered menu, and that they did not provide an acceptable service to us. She finally in a very very bad behaviour told us, who were still finishing meal after spending quite some time for the food to be prepared, "pack your bags and leave". She told to the tour operators who were negotiating a reasonable price for the insufficient service and food said "if you don't pay now, you are stealing." and forced in a terrible manner the tour operator to pay by making her feel threatened. We had to leave in the middle of our dining and we still paid in full. This was an absolute disappointing experience and I wish I could give them zero since their horrible service. They don't even deserve rating of 1. We only had a buffet lunch and it was the most terrible experience for all of us. It was only a bunch of deep fried fish, fries and mashed potatoes . No green salad whatsoever. Only a bowl of pasta was on the table as salad. They didn't have even enough bread. The amount of food was for 15 people and was not enough for 56 people. People had to wait for half an hour for them to refill their junk food. We had been charged $44.07 per person for this garbage. The restaurant's staffs were not ready for us and they kept us waiting to serve soft drinks and..... We all left the place with great disappointment. Extremely poor management services. This was the worst restaurant experience in my life!!!! read more

As a Chef I truly look forward to a night out where I dont have to cook. I also give alot of credit to waitstaff and kitchen staff when I do go out. As well, I do not like to complain as I have been on the receiving end of complants that were called for and obviohsly not called for and neither is good to hear. My experience at Spectacle Lake Lodge was a complete let down. My wife had "reserved" a window seat for 5pm, we arrived on time and were sat facing a large table of 9 people dead smack in the middle of the dining room with the back of peoples heads literally 2 feet from us (lol) There could not have been a worse table to give us. We asked if we could sit were we requested by the window and was told "there is a party of 20 coming in we are about to get killed" and the look on the waitresses face said moving you is going to be a MASSIVE undertaking. Regardless, she did move us to a table in a corner facing the Lake. Not with out a few loud sighs to let us know she was not happy about it. We ordered a beer and sparkling water, and then dinner. Apps were ok we had French Onion Soup and Caesar salad. Nothing amazing but they were tasty and seemed fresh. The Issue was with dinner... I ordered the Prime Rib and my wife the Stuffed Chicken. I asked for Med Rare to Medium as its the easiest cut on a prime rib and I didnt want to seem fussy. The waitress brought out our dinner, BEFORE clearing the app plates. my wife and I moved them out of the way so she could put our dinner down. first thing I noticed was GRILL marks on my PR? Why? In 30 years of cooking I have never seen a PR GRILLED? Its a roast not a steak!!! Second problem it was HORRIBLE, blue rare (BLUE RARE!) it had grill marks it was full of uneatable gristle and cold. THE YORKSHIRE pudding was cold dense and the "gravy" on top was literally (and I mean LITERALLY) ice cold. As a chef I have never seen such a terrible attempt at cooking. my wife's chicken had a topping of RAW and I mean RAW garlic , herbs and sundried tomato. As someone who knows a kitchen well, this chef tossed these ingredients into a bowl and then the fridge, no love at all was put into this dish ( cook with your heart is a chef motto. This line cook did not!) Our waitress did not come to our table once to see how dinner was (awful) how are drinks were (empty) and if everything was ok (it was not) after we attempted to eat our meal, I could not eat the Prime Rib.. I left %75 on my plate, it was literally raw, I had to get up find our waitress and ASK her to bring our bill. She never offered drinks or dessert options and even forgot to tell us the LOBSTER AND STEAK special. We overheard it from another waitress (lol) as well that table of 20 at 5pm.... NEVER SHOWED UP! $130 for dinner.... What a complete joke!!! Never ever again would I eat here... EVER! These problems are easily fixed, however, i'm sure they will read this get angry at me (lol) and come up with a bunch of BS excuses. Fact is this was the WORST meal we have ever had. Zero stars if I could. read more

History
Established in 1940.
Originally known as Scotty’s Lodge, the property operated from the late 1940s to 1974, serving as a popular destination for hunters and anglers. After being taken over by the government in 1974, the lodge closed for nine years. During this time, the original 1914 chalet was demolished, and a new guest wing was constructed before the lodge reopened in 1983. In 1989, Sharon Mahussier and her late husband purchased the property, spending more than three decades building its reputation as a welcoming destination for snowmobilers, outdoor enthusiasts, and travelers. The lodge became known for its hearty meals, cozy atmosphere, and its connection to the famous Ride Around Algonquin Park snowmobile loop. Following the sale of the property in 2021, the lodge entered a new chapter on January 5, 2026, when it was purchased by the Pabstel family, who now welcome guests to enjoy 720 feet of lakefront, a 3-acre property, winterized cabins, lodge rooms, and an on-site restaurant.
