Was looking for a Doctor in this area, first I called to make an appointment and the girl answered "spectrum" I asked if this was the psychiatry office and she said "yeah" After i asked for an appointment she gave me a date, but did not ask me for any of my information (I could hear her participating in a conversation with someone laughing in the background) I asked if she needed any Info to make the actual appointment she said what's your date of birth? I told her and she confirmed a time. As she rushed me off, I said excuse me which location will I be going to? She said Poughkeepsie and hung up. I called back to find out the address and doctor name and a different girl picked up and said she didn't know why I thought I had an appointment because I'm not in the system... she told me no one there makes appointments and to call the 485 phone number for intake. I called the number and left a message. My returned call happened a few hours later but I was informed there's no appointments until next month (which is fine) and that my first appointment will be intake. After all this confusion I decided not to go here. I sincerely hope the doctors find out how their staff handles the calls. I've worked in the medical field a long time and this nonsense would've gotten someone fired. read more

Five stars for my providers, two for Spectrum itself. I found two wonderful, wonderful providers here who I am very happy with and trust very much. That being said, the administration end of this business is AWFUL. I've been double-booked and overcharged more times that I can count. They need to get their act together big time. If you just keep your receipts when you pay and make sure to double or triple-confirm all of your appointments ahead of time, you should be okay. It's not the most convenient thing in the world...but doing this has allowed me to see wonderful clinicians who I would follow anywhere, so I've made my peace with it. read more

I wish I could rate the provider and service separately. Contrary to other opinions, I had a great experience with the Fishkill office manager. My providers - blech! My initial evaluation appointment went well but everything went downhill from there. The therapist there was so condescending to me during my first visit that I would not have gone back, even if she had asked me to make another appt. which she did not. My prescribing psych was so angry about me taking myself off the anxiety medication, a short acting med usually prescribed PRN, because I felt better, that her hands were shaking while she wrote notes. She said to me, "What, now you think you're a doctor?" Very nasty. At the next visit, she clearly had taken incorrect notes about what I had reported to her while she was angry. She yelled at me when I tried to correct her, because her notes could not possibly be wrong! Needless to say, that was my last visit. It's a relief to know I am not alone in my negative experiences. My primary, who is wonderful, has a very high opinion of the woman. read more

I would give this dump a -5 if I could. This is specifically for the Poughkeepsie location. Both the front office and professional staff is awful. I saw Joan Schmugler a few times now and she is so cold, in-compassionate, rigid and just uncaring. I don't know if it's because this location seems to have a larger indigent, drug abusing population but it certainly seems to be the case when I sit in the waiting area (I hate sitting in the crappy waiting area). Although appointments are booked more than 1.5 months out, I will get a prescription for 1 month. When I called in to try to get a refill, Joan Schmugler declined providing me with a refill until I came in for an appointment. This is ridiculous if her availability is so challenging to begin with that I can't even get an appointment for 1.5 months. I'm already set up for failure! If you're also looking for someone who has an iota of compassion or an inkling of warmth, she is definitely not that person. She will look over her glasses at you with a sour look of weariness and misery. This definitely doesn't help considering people are seeking to improve their emotional wellbeing! I've never had a psychiatrist as awful as her or have ever been this compelled to write a review. The front office staff is also awful. There is one person who is decent and who seems to the the main front office person but everyone else in the front has a serious attitude problem. I heard one front office person speak so loudly and rudely to someone in the phone. She wanted to curse and stopped herself. Then slammed the phone down and hung up on the caller, then proceeded to talk about the caller's request in an exasperated manner. She didn't care if all the patients in the waiting area and those who were standing in line could hear her. I don't know why it is so hard to find a decent behavioral healthcare group around here but it is and I've had to resort to this utterly incompetent and poor service group as a result. This place is so crappy I'm merely scratching the surface. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! read more

Unfortunately unless you have the money to pay astronomical fees for private docs for yourself or your kids, you have not much choice but to end up here. This place is a business, not a practice. They pack as many patients in as possible so the providers make as much money as possible while expending the least amount of effort. Meds are almost always put in wrong, if at all, Hanni literally spent a total of 2 minutes on the phone with me, increased my meds and then hung up. 2 minutes. Dare I say he charged for more than the whole 2 minutes of his time that he gave me. He is pretty useless, has no vested interest in you as his patient whatsoever. This whole telehealth stuff is absolute crap. Tell me why every single mental health practice is only online now. Everything in the world has been open and running normally for over a year, but not mh practitioners. They would just rather work from home, there is no other reason. They don't care that online therapy is a joke and absolutely sub-par for patients. There is no relationship with a face over a computer and we're supposed to bare our souls to them as per our treatment? Not gonna happen. They have taken full and ridiculous advantage of the pandemic, which is long over, so they don't have to come to work. It's a disgrace. If you have the money, run from this place. read more

Don't let their appearance fool you. Let me start by saying that the clinicians that I've dealt with here have been spectacular. Each provider is different, but I must have gotten lucky because mine have been nothing but helpful, caring and compassionate. Appearances are sometimes deceiving, and that is the case here. Spectrum is a group of private providers who are only affiliated with the company because they need an office to manage their claims and such. I've been able to make great progress with my providers at Spectrum. That being said, Spectrum's offices are a disaster. Double-booked appointments, disorganized encounters with receptionists and billing errors are the norm. The Fishkill office is cramped and filled with furniture and equipment that is woefully in need of repair or replacement. I've frequently shown up for appointments where someone else was scheduled in my regular time slot and/or there was no receptionist to take my copay. They will not keep you on the schedule for consistent appointments so you need to go directly to the desk after each visit and book as far out as you can if you go there regularly. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS for copays; I've been double-billed for payments that weren't entered into the computer on multiple occasions. In summary, give them a try if you don't mind the potential for administrative headaches and the need to have a hawk-like focus on policing your billing and protecting your regularly scheduled appointments. As frustrated as I've been with them, my experience with my providers there has been more than worth it. Five stars for the doctors; two for the office itself. read more

There was no help getting a new doc within the spectrum pysch office,and the appt that was finally accepted,my wife was YELLED at by the doctor!! For trying to get her pills refilled! If I could give Spectrum ZERO stars, I would. This place is an absolute disaster, from the administration to the service providers. You are just a number there. For people and professionals dealing with individuals with mental health issues, they ought to be a little more compassionate, organized, and flexible. They are anything but. Not only is it impossible to get appointments, but when you show up for your scheduled appointment, you generally have to wait 45-60 minutes (or longer) to see your provider. Phone calls aren't answered, messages aren't returned, and if your provider needs to cancel an appointment, forget about anyone calling you. I showed up twice for an appointment that was canceled (unbeknownst to me) because my provider went on vacation. Mental health care in this country is a disgrace. Don't waste your time going to this place. You will not get the help you need. read more

Dr Van Aken seems to be a good enough doctor, but now multiple times my prescriptions had not been called in in a timely fashion. I saw the doctor last Tuesday, which is now a full week ago, and was well before the holiday, so there is no excuse for my meds to not be called in. This is the second time my meds have not been called in to my pharmacy when they said they would, and the first time when I called the office staff didn't sound like they gave half a shit about it. I have now TWICE gone multiple days without my medication as a result of them taking their sweet ass time or just not doing it at all until I bug them about it with multiple phone calls a day. It's now 5am (can't sleep without my meds!) and I am counting down the hours until they open and boy are those receptionists gonna get an earful from me. I have been keeping it together thus far but what if during these days they neglected to take care of my meds I had hurt myself???? Again, the office staff doesn't seem to care very much, if at all. Again, Dr Van Aken is a good doctor, but the office staff at Spectrum is abysmal, and if they don't get their shit together then I will certainly be seeking treatment elsewhere. read more

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!! These doctors have more mental problems than their own patients. My first doctor walked out on me and left me stranded without any medication, literally was unaware and thrown to the dogs. My next doctor Linda Callvacca prescribed me medicine and made sure I didn't have enough so I AWLAYS had to come back. I've been on the same medicine for 2 years now... No reason I should have to come back EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH. It's all a money making business with them. They don't care and won't even try to help their patients. They won't even give me access to my OWN medical records which I'm pretty sure is illegal!!!! I've also been threatened; there was an instance that I had an appointment so I drove an hour away there just for them to say they can't see me or refill my prescription until I pay my bill (my father was in charge of this and pays them.) They denied me my prescription so I had to stop cold turkey which is so so bad for you. This place is a scam and even asks you what medication you want to be on which is really terrifying. Please for your own safety and health, do NOT go here. I'm on hold with the Better Business Bureau to shut this firm down. Scary. read more

Wish I could give it less than one star!! I almost ran out of this place on my very first visit when I saw how filthy the reception area was (not to mention that it stunk from urine). But I am sometimes quick to judge, so I stuck it out. I only saw a "therapist" once ~ she was only a social worker and not even a psychologist!! Then, it was impossible to make more appointments because this person was NEVER at that location. The last appointment I was supposed to have 2 weeks ago was canceled because they claimed she was sick. I then had to wait another two weeks to get another appointment. I swear, that lazy cow did not even want to work at all!!! I had an appointment scheduled for today that someone from their office set up for me over the phone, but when I got there, I was told that I had no appointment today at all, so I wasted my time going over there!! The receptionist could not have cared less and just sat there shrugging her shoulders. I will NEVER go back to that hell hole again and I advise everyone to steer clear of that rotten place!!! They are the most unprofessional CREEPS I have ever seen in any medical office EVER and no one there gives a damn!!!! I walked into my scheduled appointment, and they told me my doctor retired. They said they had called all of his patients to let them know, but I can attest that that's not true. I told them I had just taken my last prescribed pill (for depression) 2 days ago, but they wouldn't give me an appointment until a week later. I've found out from this experience that urgent care centers and pharmacists will not renew a prescription--they say it's the responsibility of my retired doctor or whoever that office chooses to replace him with. Because this office takes no responsibility for its mistakes or its patients, my only 2 options at this point seem to be spending around $500 on an ER visit or go through a week of withdrawal. And actually it is probably going to be longer because this office is clearly not dependable, so I need to go elsewhere, where I will be a new patient, which generally makes it take longer to get an appointment. So if you want to take chances with your clinical depression, this is the place to go. read more

This place has given me nothing but problems. They charged me a no show fee for a day they closed DUE TO SNOW! Yet I get charged even though they weren't gonna be there anyways. They refuse to see me until I pay my "outstanding balance" even though I've been off my meds for a few weeks now and NEED a new script. I too had a terrible experience at Spectrum. Before I chose an Obamacare health insurance policy I specifically asked at Spectrum if they accepted Health Republic. I was told that they did. I submitted my insurance information and each time I visited was told I didn't have a copay (there is no copay for mental health care for in network providers with this particular Health Republic policy). Now, the reason that they take your health insurance details is because you are supposed to pay for your appointment before you go in. So they check with the health insurance company, and let you know when you arrive what your copay is. Each time I arrived for an appointment I was told I had no copay. A few months later I received a bill in the mail for hundreds of dollars--charged for each and every visit. When I called to complain the woman at the front desk denied saying they accepted Magnacare (the network that Health Republic uses) and forwarded my call to someone in billing who TOLD ME THAT THEY ACCEPTED HEALTH REPUBLIC and that he had a contract and this must be a mistake. He was going to get back to me. He never did. I've called the company that handles their billing about 10 times, have repeatedly been told that someone would call me back, and NOT ONE PERSON HAS CALLED ME BACK. Months later I have received a bill alerting me that if I do not pay hundreds of dollars in the next two weeks, my bill will go to collections. You have been warned by a number of us, this place is not reliable. I feel so sorry for the providers who are working there, because I genuinely had a great experience with them. But not worth having my bill unjustifiably sent to collections. read more
