This office offers absolutely no grace or compassion toward patients. Before my appointment, they pre-charged my credit card twice for my copay--charging $40 instead of the correct $20. I planned to address the overcharge at my appointment. Unfortunately, I missed the appointment due to an unavoidable work issue. I called the office within one hour to explain what happened, only to find they had already charged my card an additional $75 missed-appointment fee--despite my prompt call and explanation. In total, I was charged $115 for a visit that never occurred. This was the first appointment I have ever missed since beginning treatment with Dr. Mastman. Despite that, the staff showed zero empathy or willingness to work with me, even after acknowledging the initial overcharge. For patients who work hard, live paycheck to paycheck, and try to do the right thing, this kind of rigid and punitive billing practice feels exploitative. Doctors' offices should not operate in a way that financially penalizes patients without consideration or fairness--especially when mistakes are made on their end. This experience was deeply disappointing and left me feeling disrespected as a patient. read more

This is an update to my terrible experience recently with this eye clinic. After my review and talking to the optics department manager, I was offered a refund for the glasses I purchased (and returned) which I gladly accepted. It wasn't a battle either. They also removed the eye exam from my insurance, so I am free to use my insurance for another eye physician. In the last few months Spectrum completely replaced their billing department and software which is a great change. 1) When I call I talk to someone instead of voicemail 2) They seem better trained than the old billing company 3) The bills are available to view online with all details shown to compare with insurance claims. read more

There are far better vision centers to go than Spectrum. I've had numerous billing mistakes, and it's very difficult to get a call back for any kind of appointment. I've been to several locations in about two decades, but I will no longer return. I've also had scratched glasses after ordering them-- the lab(s)they send their glasses makes numerous mistakes. Dr. Liu is an incredible ophthalmologist and that's the only reason I visited this location. Seek care elsewhere. These doctors have an issue with listening to there patients which was not an issue when I went to Carey vision, but spectum took them over and ruined a great eye care center. Now in my case I came to Spectrum bc I had debris get in my eye that got behind my eyelida and instead of listening and trying to find and remove the debris spectrum doctors insisted on treating the inflammation telling me there is no debris in my eye. The best part is I was there the day before the debris got in my eye with perfectly normal eyes. Eventually after a month of going to Spectrum once or twice a week and countless different prescribed medicines, the medicines they prescribed began to take its toll and destroy the surface and nerves in my eye. Then when a spectrum doctor finally diagnosed the medicine reaction, the office staff forgot to submit the prescriptions and would not pickup the phone despite leaving multiple messages while my vision quality began to worsen to where I went to the ER and the ER misdiagnosed the medicine reactions and prescribed a medicine that ultimately caused serious damage to my eye. All this on behalf of spectrum not listening to their patient and then lazy office staff not answering the phone for a prescription that would have prevented permanent eye damage that I now have. Now thanks to spectrum my life is ruined as I deal with pain every day all bc of terrible doctors. As such I highly recommend avoiding this place with all cost unless you want to live the same fate. read more

Customer service was very snappy for no reason when I told them that my new glasses were not done correctly - I was instantly dizzy and felt like everything looked like I was in bad 3D movie looking through a fishbowl lens. So I took the glasses off right away and said that this is not good and won't work, and she responds with "you just had them on for 5 seconds and threw them at me - how do you know they won't work". read more

Dr.Liu and his staff are excellent! My family and I have been going to him for over 20 years. I had bi-focal ocular lens implants 5 years ago! I"m only giving this rating based on ability to get in touch with anyone here -- i have not been able to see them yet and, truthfully, i'm not sure i would WANT to go somewhere where it is IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTACT ANYONE. I've called the office line multiple times and got a reply text that says "we're here but no one is available, please text us and we'll get back to you" (It has never happened), and i've called the main line and left messages to call (TWICE) AND i've tried to use their form to make an appointment. Out of at least 10 calls, texts, whatever's I've managed to get in touch with an actual person ONCE and have an appointment for april. read more

First of all the staff at the optical department are super nice and helpful. They are why I came back so often. Between VSP's lab and Spectrum however there is something really wrong. I had my glasses done there about 2 years ago, I have a high perscription hence I go for small glasses. In fact I have the right size and told them to duplicate the size I have now (which they did). The glasses arrive 2 weeks later and they are much bigger than my originals. Humm... We remeasure and send back, they come back and guess what they are not right again. We send back. They come back and after 8 weeks from initial delivery they finally are ok. Fast forward. My anti-reflective coating prematurely fails. Glasses are under warranty. Take them in. No problem under warranty they will fix. Come it to get them and the glasses (which are rimless) have not been polished rather look like cheap cut glass. Being sent back to the lab again. During all this the staff is super nice. They take the glasses and tell me no problem, but the number of back and forths to the lab really takes time. I have been to other opticians and Spectrum has great people but the results are ok. I wish the glasses delivery was better so that I could give them the 5 stars that their service warrants. read more

I've been going to Spectrum eye physicians for many, many years!! I see Dr. James Liu, who checks my eyes every six months for preventative care. I see Dr. Lee for prescriptions and he is very nice and knows what he is doing! Willing to help you if you need adjustments to perceptions. The one key person to their office is Michelle!! She is amazing and can multi-task any busy day and help everyone with a smile!!! She is the best, and I look forward to going just to see her!!!! My two adult daughters go now as well, due to the fact the doctors and the great women who run the office, especially Michelle!!! I ordered two pair of glasses. My first pair of glasses did not fit my face properly, being stiff and unyielding in the wrong direction, pretty much unusable, and expensive. This is not a good place for customer satisfaction. We are not given a complete explanation of services/options. Customers have to blindly order what they think they need, without sufficient professional advice. Then, if you buy the more expensive glasses, with the warranty, and they don't work for you, you use up your option when they make the glasses wrong, If you try to discuss the problem, you are treated to an argument, with a nasty tone of voice. I ordered a second pair of glasses made to fit a different frame, which had only been used about a month so was like new. I was charged over $300 for single vision glasses. When they came, they were difficult to wear, and I returned them to be changed. But, rather than being a 'free' remake, I was told that now the scratch warranty was used, and now they were not covered by any warranty. These folks are too expensive, incompetent, and rude. Worst eye physician office ever! The doctor here prescribed me a daily contact that couldn't be taken off. I was able to get one out but the other got stuck. The office here doesn't want to take responsibility nor take care of their patients. The front desk charged me for an office visit to take the contact out because it's not the same doctor who prescribed me contacts. The front desk also blamed me for walk in. What am I supposed to do? Leave the bad contact in the eye, stayed arms home for days until they have time for appointment? Had a growth in my lower lash line for years. Called this place by reference of an elder friend who just had eye surgery by them. I was so happy afterwards. Dr. El-sawy was great. He removed my lesion quickly and gently and no pain or anything. I would definitely go back to him. read more

I will start with the positive. Alondra, who answered the phone when I called was absolutely amazing. She was kind, compassionate, efficient and overall amazing at her job. My experience went downhill from there. I was passed to Krystal who, by far, was the rudest medical professional I have ever spoken with. She was cruel, sarcastic and condescending. I asked to speak to her manager and she said he was busy. I asked for him (Joel) to call back. It has been a week now and not one person has returned my call to discuss my original request or now, my concerns. This office was fabulous until Dr. Crowder retired. Big Thanks to Samantha and Dr. Fishman for helping me get a new prescription for glasses that were broken during the pandemic! I was originally told by the front office that I would have to go to Costco to get an eye exam because my prescription was over 2 years old. No mention at all of the fact that Spectrum was doing emergency appointments and when I thanked the Doctor for squeezing me in he said "no problem at all, we are not busy right now with the pandemic". What I appreciated most was his wonderful personality-compassionate and patient in answering all my questions. I highly recommend Dr. El Sawy. I saw Dr. Liu for a basic eye checkup and while he wasn't terrible, he wasn't that great either. He didn't stand out with an incredible bed side manner or anything. It sounds like from his other reviews that maybe his speciality is Lasik and not routine exams. The first pair of glasses that he prescribed for me were too strong and gave me headaches. We then went back to the same prescription I had before. I feel the same way about his staff. Meh. The woman who runs the glasses area seemed too fake to me. With a big fake smile and she said all the glasses looked good on me. That just isn't true. Also, when my glasses came in the first time, the lens was protruding out from the front of the frame a lot! I do have bad eyes and need high index lenses. But I've always had glasses made with the extra part of the lens sticking out from the back of the frame, so you can't see it as much. I asked for this to be fixed, but when I came back again, they were again sticking out the front. So it took 3 tries to get the lens made right. I've only had the glasses a year and the lenses have popped out multiple times. I've worn glasses for over 20 years and these were the worst pair of glasses I've ever had made. However, I don't really know if this was a problem caused by them or with my insurance. 2 stars = Meh. I've experienced better. That about sums it up right. --- edit: I also just remembered that they didn't order the type of contacts that I asked for. Thinking maybe I should bump them down to 1 star. read more

I found Dr. Liu 8 years ago when I was looking for a good Lasik doc. (Had a friend in the biz who recommended him as one of the best. I interviewed 5 before picking him.) He's been "my eye guy" ever since. He's great at all things eyes, and he's nice too. (Even though he's super busy he never makes you feel like he doesn't have time for you.) He's honest - doesn't sell you the latest procedure just to make a buck. (I asked, he told me to come back in 8 years when the technology was perfected and I was - ahem - older.) The staff here is phenomenal as well. They fit you in when you have an issue, and they do what they can for non-urgent creative scheduling as well. My mother is also a patient here now, and she feels the same about her care. read more

Then when the Dr. finally does come in he goes thru everything so fast and is out of there in 5 minutes. it was so fast it made my head spin. And the lady answering the phones named Michelle is just a total bitch to put it nicely. And while you are in the office all you hear are the women gossiping. Not a great place. I even referred my husband when he had a stubborn sty that wouldn't go away. He was well taken care of and said he had a good experience. The one thing that stands out the most about Dr. Liu is that he is always patient when it comes to my questions. I never feel like I'm rushed. For the most part my eye exams are quick. My eye sight has not changed in the past 20+ years. But when I had more medical issues with my eyes, he's been patient to explain my situation and the possibilities of why it happened. In the past he's always made time for my family and myself, even if he's booked. However, I'm sure because of his professionalism and excellent care he provides, his client list has grown. Which leads me to my next review... I give 1 star for the front desk receptionist, Michelle. I don't know if she's always been the one I spoke with on making appointments in the past. I remember working with someone who was pleasant and would see if Dr. Liu could squeeze us in for last minute emergencies. However, the last few times I've called, I've NOT had that pleasant experience. Now, I understand that Dr. Liu is booked if not over booked. And I certainty don't mind seeing another physician. However, booking that appointment was no walk in the park today. My conversation was met with an instant wall of defense and "look I'm trying to help you, but you're not making it easy" when I wasn't even being argumentative. She is hot and cold. Mostly cold. And as this is the 3rd time this has happened, I find it unprofessional. If I were a new patient calling to make an appointment, I would probably go elsewhere because I would figure if her attitude is sour then the rest of the staff would be the same. Since she sits in the front, I can't imagine how awkward it would be to be a patient listening to her speak to clients this way. But then again, I'm sure they've all experienced the wrath of Michelle themselves. Honestly, I don't expect to be hand held or be speaking to someone with a personality like Mary Poppins. But if you're going to be the front/first face of the clinic, you would think it would met with some air of professionalism and patience. read more

Dr Mastman is one of the best doctors around. My vision was deteriorating in 2009 on my left eye and he helped me through cataract surgery to get rid off my contact lens and to see way much better than before. The same happened in 2011 for my right eye. Besides that, every time, I visit his office he gives me enough time to understand my problem and he always comes up, with the right treatment. The other place normally charge $80-90 by cash and provide better service. However she refused to pay me back later and said I misunderstood her. She shouted at me in the phone and didn't want me to tell the truth. My god. If I recorded what she said, I want to see her face how she was shamed to tell a lie. Dr. Mastman is a great eye surgeon and helped my understand the process in a very easy way! I had cataracts in my early 40's and decided to get mono-vision lens implants. I no longer need glasses for driving, my computer work or reading. I had a difficult time with both bifocal and transitional glasses but my brain immediately adopted the mono-vision lenses. I don't know why more people do not get mono-vision. It has been the easiest and most natural. Just think no glasses ever again needed. read more

I've been going to Dr. Lui for over 15 years. He did my LASIK 10 years ago and I am so happy with the results. I was -9 in one eye and -10 in the other with astigmatisms in both and I am 20/20 now. I love it. He could have sold me on RK, and PRK back in the days when those were the procedure of choice but he had me wait until the right procedure was available for me. I am so glad that I did. My family now drives one hour (since we moved) for our yearly checkups to see Dr. Lui. The staff is great too. read more

My wife and I saw Dr. Liu for many years. In addition to Dr. Liu they have experienced staff technicians. They always got our prescriptions correct. They also have an optometry department. The glasses always came back precisely what were prescribed. The cost under VSP was quite reasonable. They are a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB). read more

Dr. Mastman is wonderful. I think they have a little too much faith in the front office. I prepaid for my surgery and now they are charging me for additional follow ups I never had. They also claim the medical insurance did not pay properly, but will not resubmit, instead referred me to collections. I sent documentation once proving i overpaid and have a negative balance according to their own documents. They refused to review and resend a list of billings and payments. I plan to give them a short time to fix their mistake and then take legal action for causing distress to my credit score. By the way, no one can promise 20/20 vision being restored after a surgery. They can tell you typical results but everyone is different. I went from 20/25 to 20/25 even though typically I should have had 20/20 again. Lens replacements are not a guarantee. read more
