I figured I would grab some snacks to eat...and decided to stop by a gas station that was nearby..and..surprisingly discovered Allsup's burritos for the first time!! I had a green chile and cheese burrito with a cold bottle fo soda..and...wow...I was so hooked that I was debating going in there to get a second burrto! It was so good to the point I had to look up Allsup's burrito online and that was when I discovered the whole cult following Allsup's burrito. Pro tip: the one that people usually talk about are beef and beans ones...but..I swear..I loved the green chile and cheese so much that I don't even think about trying other flavors! They do have other flavors like beef & beans, chicken and green chile and chicken and beans(?) as well. The only one star was..if you were to buy a burrito on its own, you pay close to $4 for one, which, in my mind, is expensive (esp for a gas station food!). I happened to beg the gas station manager to get the $5 soda/burrito combo, which usually only applied to pepsi & beef and beans burrito. Go try this! They sell them in sealed packs of a dozen and you can choose either green (chicken) or red (pork). If you are flying home with a cooler of roasted Hatch or Socorro chile the airlines don't permit you to have ice in the cooler. So I use a few packages of frozen tamales from Johnnie's as my "ice" to keep the chile cold. It has worked perfectly for 20+ years in a row.

The building looks like a an Indian pueblo, not some run-of-the-mill convenience store! I suspect that the owners live above the place. It's one of the tallest gas stations I've ever been to. It's located along the main road into town, right next to the Jemez Pueblo Indian Reservation Welcome Center, by some red cliffs. The soil here is so red, it looks like rust or the surface of Mars. The restrooms are located outside, in a separate cinder block building. They were clean. They have local events here, like selling BBQ plates for a cause. It seems to be part of the community around here. Not only do they have gas here, but offer water and air for the tires. Just watch your speed through here.
