An update to my most recent post. I would suggest that the use canvas tarps to cover lawns they are working over because my lawn is absolutely destroyed. Because the crew went from 3 to 2, heavy limbs, and I mean 6 to 10 inches were thrown from 30 and 40 feet onto the lawn and now have huge depressions throughout, not to mention all of the sawdust. When it comes to anything tree related, Sperry is always first on our list. We have now used them at two different homes for different services. At our previous home, we had some trees that were planted before we moved in, and they were not doing well in the space. We contacted Sperry and the amazing Alby from Sperry came out and gave us a bid for removing the "bad" trees, and planting appropriate trees for the space. After reviewing the bid, we approved the work and got on the schedule. The crew showed up on time and immediately got to work. They worked very hard in not the best weather and finished the job in one day and everything looked great. After moving to our current home, we inherited a much larger yard that had one tree that definitely needed removed, so we called Sperry and asked if we could have Alby visit to give us a bid. Once again, Alby showed up, told us about all the trees in our yard, and agreed the tree needed to be removed. We once again approved the bid, scheduled and had the crew come out. They removed the tree and a few other items, ground the stump down and we had a "new" backyard. The latest we have used Sperry was after the ice storm. They were booked out for obvious reasons, but put us on the list for when they were available. Once again, Alby came out to look at our big maple that had been annihilated by the ice. He told us it could definitely be saved, but needed some serious trimming and lifted. We got on the books and had the crew come out once again. They topped some of our other trees, made the maple free of all the damage from the ice storm. After they finished, the maple has been regrowing wonderfully like nothing ever happened. We will continue to make Sperry our first call for any and all tree related services. This was a great learning experience for me. Alby was a good front man, very knowledgeable and personable, but make sure you are clear on what "YOU" want to accomplish not just what he recommends ( and make sure it's on the bid sheet because the crew follows that sheet to the letter, nothing more, nothing less). The crew was great, they had the tools and talent to match, working from 9am to 430pm, chipping a massive amount of slash. The cleanup was decent, with only minor complaints that won't stop me from recommending this company. It was the mid estimate and I still think it was a good value for work performed. It was a boatload of work regardless. Make sure to get a licensed and bonded contractor to do your work, Sperry has been around for years, a proven performer that will be my first choice in tree/arborist abatement that is above my paygrade! read more

Wow, Alby at Sperry Tree Care is the best!! He is incredibly knowledgeable about trees and shrubs, what to plant dependent on the conditions of the planting area, tree height and width and best varieties of trees / plants within the Genus. For example, I looked up tons of plants on-line and came up with a particular type of Spirea. He would tell me about that Spirea and then suggest a different type of Spirea more suited to the area I was planting. He knew all the plants and trees I threw at him, I was impressed. What a knowledge base!! I contracted with this company to take down a huge fir that was growing too close to my house. They completed it in a day and without any harm to my home. The only minor negative is that Alby asked one of the tree cutters to take down 4 limbs on a different tree in the backyard as a "lets help her out - no extra cost", and they forgot. Oh well. But the main work that I contracted them for was complete, cleaned up and perfectly performed. I am asking Sperry to give me an estimate on planting 3 new trees in the yard. They were competitive before, hoping they are again. read more

I have had really bad experiences with Arborists in the past, so I am always a little uncomfortable when I need tree work. The experience with Sperry was the best I have ever had when I needed tree work. The crew was knowledgeable, courteous, respectful of my property. For me, there was no sticker shock. Sperry did a great job assessing the health of our trees. They were not able to handle the eventual removal of these 100 year old trees, which requires big equipment. I would hire Sperry for smaller tree jobs in the future. read more

Sperry Tree Care did such an excellent job for our HOA. Everything was top notch from the estimate and suggestions to the scheduling to the contracted crane operator to the unbelievable highly skilled work the crew did. Very Happy with this company. I enjoyed the process from the bid of the job to the trimming of a 175 foot Doug Fir. They were very mindful and aware and considered our thoughts regarding what was best for the tree. they cleaned up my roof ,yard and were quick and demonstrated professionalism and safety. We hired Sperry to thin out an exceptionally large Pin Oak adjacent to our house when we bought it. It is a magnificent tree and based on our previous experience with them we knew they would do a fantastic job and leave the canopy looking balanced and beautiful. Today 2/25/19 as more than a foot of snow has fallen and other trees are bowing to the pressure I have the peace of mind there are no longer large branches hanging over our roof. read more

I have always had good service from Sperry Tree Care in the past and knew they charged more than everyone else but it had been worth it. This time was TERRIBLE. The bid seemed high but he said it would probably take 4 guys 4-5 hours. I thought it was odd because it was much less work than last time but more money. I was never offered time and materials. They were supposed to call first which makes all the difference in the world. Instead I am not dressed, I am on the phone and see them in the front yard, Ughhhh. Terrible way to start any job. They have always protected my house with plywood. This time they did not. They did not protect the deck (I asked if they could put a tarp over the top and they did not) and some large branches hit it. I asked them to please not touch my personal belongings without asking but they borrowed my umbrella stand and some stepping stones to prop open things without asking. No you cannot use my personal items for your job without asking, it is not okay. They left a lot of debris in the vinca, they raked the grass but did not pick up any of the branches or stumps anywhere else. They did not prune the tree in front like I asked and I don't even think they did it right. AND the job took 3 guys less than 4 hours. It would have been 3-3.5 hours if they had called first AND did not have to wait 20+ minutes for a different truck because they one they had someone else in their company needed. So the guys said they would ask their office it I could pay time and materials only (a $500-$750 savings). Instead they took $194 off the bill and told me I should be grateful. Sorry I am not grateful when I get ripped off and you disrespect my time and my belongings and don't prune the tree how we discussed and leave the yard a mess. read more

The tree care company that seems to care as much about trees as they do about profits. Very careful and diligent, and more likely to help you find a way to heal a tree than to cut it down. They did take out a big tree that was too close to our house, which cost over $1,000, but also hooked us up with an urban lumber person (lumberjack?) who paid us enough for the wood we actually came out ahead. read more

These people are just unbelievably nice to work with. From Katrina in the office to Chris in consultation and sales to the guys swinging from the trees - genuinely good people, friendly and happy doing their work. They were knowledgeable and patient with our many questions; Chris came back at least twice when we had more questions and were changing our minds, and gave us good advice (and an education in trees). Though we'd heard their prices are high, we found them in line with or lower than others. They just finished their second job for us, and it was pretty big judging from the number of crews they sent. They didn't break anything that wasn't supposed to be broken in removing 5 big Doug firs and pruning lots of storm-damaged branches - their skill is amazing, lowering heavy sections of fir in very tight spaces, like between carport and the neighbor's fence, they had only a couple of feet on either side to work with, and that's barely more than the diameter of the tree sections. I don't think I've ever seen anybody enjoy their jobs like the guys in the trees - and theirs is the hardest, scariest job I've ever seen. They cleaned up everything well - not perfectly the first time, but when we told them about it, they came back to finish correctly, and without an attitude - they were happy to do it. When they mistakenly trucked away a load of chips without asking us, they returned later with a new load of chips at a time of our convenience, and again, still happy to do it. They seem to have a good outlook on life, and that communicates in their work and response to customers. I don't see how a tree service could be better. read more

Alby came out and gave a clear review of what needed to be done. On the day of the job he left his workers but was not there the whole time which is why I am giving a two star because a very nice tree that we had and only needed to be trimmed was butchered and eventually died and had to be removed. We were very upset at this and the company did not recompense us at all for the loss, they only said that it was a risk that we had taken. We will never use this company again because I know that if Alby had been there on the job site the whole time this would not have happened. read more

Fantastic company! Alby is so knowledgeable. He has a remarkable level of expertise!!! The arborist input was very helpful in determining the appropriate level of tree removal and trimming. His team was so hard working and conscientious and polite!! They've done our tree trimming and removal in Oregon for several years and have always been excellent and kept us informed throughout the process.
