Both were bursting with flavor with heat level mild enough for those who tend to shy away from heat. I especially loved the aloo tikki chaat and found it to be the PERFECT balance of savory, sweet, spicy and tangy flavors. Their chai is made from scratch and topped off my meal nicely. Picked up some dinner on a week day and I really enjoyed it! Their Kathi rolls are packed with protein and flavor. I tried the chicken tikka roll and lamb kebab roll and they were excellent! Lots of meat and the protein was seasoned well. I also got the chana chaat which is a chickpea salad! Very tasty and flavorful too. I was stuffed and had enough for leftovers. I probably didn't need to get 2 Kathi rolls and a snack but I wanted to try everything and it was worth it! I also tried their seasonal soft serve which was lychee this month and it was really good! It has good lychee flavor without tasting artificial and overly sweet. I definitely recommend this spot! It's great for a fast casual meal, great value and quality for the price. Spice Waala is an unassuming hole in the wall and parking can be tough, but it's a little gem! I went for a quick solo dinner and even on weekday nights, tables were full most of the time (although there are just 5 tables) and people constantly coming in to pick up. I got the lamb kebab roll, aloo tikki chaat, and mango lassi. Portions are on the smaller side but super affordable, so it makes sense. The lamb kebab roll was smaller, so I'd advise two if you're really hungry. The lamb was good, although I felt a little one note and could use more pickled onions and chutney. The mango lassi was small, but thick and filling. Class mango lassi flavor, a little bit more on the spice-y side. The real star of the show was the aloo tikki chaat. I've never had it before and was blown away. Crispy potato patties covered in yogurt, pomegranate, some crunchy topping I don't know the name of, and a sweet tamarind sauce. The employee confirmed they were the same batch but claimed they were made "right before" I walked in, even though I had already been there about seven minutes. I asked for a fresh order. The new fries came out burnt and overseasoned, which has been a recurring issue here. The wrap tasted like it had been reheated and was still partially cold. Ok. Mind officially blown!! I don't know why it's taken me so long to try Spice Waala?! But I will certainly be a return customer! Let me tell you about the Aloo Tikki Chaat.... I've never had anything like this before. The combination of flavors and textures...just wow. It was a taste bud party in my mouth. All the toppings are packaged separately and they include a little card with assembly instructions. Which for a first timer, was very helpful. I cannot recommend this enough! And at a $5.50 price point too! Also tried the Kathi Roll Lamb Kebab. Also divine. So much great flavor. It's not huge, but it doesn't need to be. packs a punch of protein in a convenient roll. I'd ordered an extra yogurt sauce for this, but I honestly didn't need it, as I had some left over from the chaat. The menu is small, but excellently executed. I went in about 20 min before close the other weekend, and there were still a lot of people picking up their food! Chicken tikka roll seemed to be quite popular as they already ran out of it by the time I was ordering. I got the aloo tikki instead and that was pretty good. One thing I always think about but forget to mention is that the presentation of mango lassi is not good. Having the lassi in a small to-go coffee cup must make it easier to pull it out fast, but it's not practical for the consumer nor is it pretty. A small, spacious, and colorful interior with delicious food. There's only 6 tables inside for seating but the lack of tables seems intentional and gives the place a more relaxing feel. The Chicken was spicy but not too spicy, it was marinated well, cooked to perfection, and extremely juicy. I don't appreciate someone telling me that my taste or experience is invalid. One word: overhyped. My brother highly recommended this spot during my last visit to Seattle so I decided I had to give it a try. Placed my order online hoping to have it conveniently ready to go by the time I arrived 15 minutes later. You know, how pick up orders usually work. Just so y'all know, it doesn't work like that here. After you've placed (and paid for) your order online you must still check in before they start making your order. So plan accordingly! Now, onto the food! I ordered two items to share with my brother since we had dinner in 2 hours and wanted to stay hungry for that! We tried a Chicken Tikka Roll and the Masala Aloo. Chicken Tikka Roll - This was waaaay smaller than I thought it would be. It's grilled spiced chicken wrapped in a thin roti with raw onions and green chutney. It was $7.50 for like a three bite wrap. It definitely could have used more flavor. Maybe even just some salt to enhance the existing flavors? It was just missing.. a lot for $7.50. Snack Masala Aloo - Fries coated heavily in their special spice blend. These fries were fried so long that most of them were translucent. It's weird though, some fries felt suuuper heavy while others were super light and crispy. They also weren't hot. Spice blend was just okay. Tasted like whatever they put on the chicken. Again, salt would definitely have helped here. Cool thing about these fries though, we couldn't finish because it started feeling super heavy after a few fries so left them out. 4 hours later my brother tried one and they were still crispy! (Remind anyone of that Super Size me documentary that went viral years ago?) The store itself is just a little takeout spot. A few tables scattered inside and like 2(?) tables outside. Open kitchen so you can see your order being made. Would I try this place again? Probably not. The price vs food quality was just not it for me. Here, think of a truly handheld, small but substantial, wrapped bit of excellence: a green coriander-based sauce on nicely trimmed pieces of marinated chicken. This is a gem of an Indian snack place. I have been in Greater Seattle area for the last 2 years and this is the best in town. They don't have a wide spectrum of options and have narrowed down to a few items. The best part is whatever cuisine they decided to keep in menu they have absolutely mastery in that. The chicken Tikka roll had a smoky flavor - either they infused the smoke flavor or they are cooking it over charcoal - either way it's impressive. The mano swirl was tasty and dense - had really rich texture. The Aloo Tikki Chat was so well done - doesn't feel oily at all. In fact it was pretty light. I loved their Bhel poori too. Panner roll was fresh and panner was very soft but there was no way to ask them to add any spice or they didn't have that option , if they had some spice level that will be great . The foods are great. The price is good too. Easy to eat because it's a wrap. If you like spicy foods, I recommend you to try it! Get 2 as they suggest because it's small, if you want a full meal. Fries are good too. I find it bit salty but it might not the the case for others. It's good to go with but if you want to have relatively quick lunch with your friends, that's also great. The Chicken Tikka roll is fantastic. Little bit a kick, lotta bit of flavor. Easily my favorite. The "Snacks" which are fairly shareable appetizers are also quite good. My favorite being the Chana chaat. It's served cold but I like to bring it home and heat it up. It's so flavorful, I can't help but smile after a forkful. I'm new to Ballard and was looking for some quick eats for my family before all my kitchen stuff was settled. The Spice Waala reviews were great and it's a short walk for me so we ordered an assortment of chicken and lamb kathi rolls and the chickpea salad. Everything was amazing! I've had kathi rolls before in NYC at a few restaurant chains, but these are by far the best I've had. The chicken and Lamb are my favorites. Ingredients are fresh and they're packed with a good amount of protein. The chickpea salad was amazing as well. I've gone back a couple times just for the chickpea salad to add as a side to my lunch and dinner. The serving is big enough to last me 2 meals at least so it makes for a great side dish the next day. The staff are amazing and I love the laidback vibe inside. 11/10 read more

I've been here a few times and it's solid for the price. It's a small establishment with 4-5 tables. The service was quick, but while ordering we felt a little rushed. The sides are yummy with the rolls being good but not great (we had the paneer one and chicken tikka). "These burritos are amazing!" Just kidding. I love Spice Walaa ever since they were serving up their delicious Kathi Rolls and Masala Chai at the SLU Market. I love coming here whenever I get a chance to be in Ballard. I hadn't been in a while, but I've been wanting to try their rotating soft serve. On my recent visit, it absolutely blew my mind. The Coconut Cardamom soft serve was so delicious and unique. It had this creaminess texture that was so smooth and I loved the coconut flake toppings. You bet I'll be back for more of their flavors. As for the Kathi Rolls, my go-to is the Lamb Kebab, but the Paneer Bhurji Roll is also a favorite of mine. Most people order just one, but sometimes I'll get two because they're so good. Get that with a Mango Lassi and you're good to go. Honestly, I haven't explored the other half of their menu because the Kathi Rolls are always so good, but you bet I'll return because I want to try their Chana Chaat and Masala Aloo fries as well as their new soft serve flavors. This place is a little untraditional as all their food is in wraps. They also have a very selective menu. This being said, the flavors are so good! We got an appetizer of the chickpeas which are flavored as chaat. It was soo good! Then I had the lamb wrap. I love it as well. When I heard this place serves what looks like burritos made with Indian ingredients, I was so excited to try it out! So they're actually called "kathi rolls" which are wrapped in roti. It was hard to tell the difference between the roti and a typical tortilla as I ate the rolls, but I bet there would be a more noticeable difference if I had tasted the roti alone. I ordered three rolls to split with my partner: Lamb kebab- This was hands down my favorite. Full of flavorful lamby goodness. The green chutney went so well with it. Chicken tikka- This ranked second. Delicious, juicy chicken full of spices. Paneer bhurji- This ranked third. I usually like paneer and while there was some flavor mixed in, this was too bland for me. It actually reminded me a lot of scrambled eggs, both in flavor and texture. The rolls are on the smaller side. Also, I wish there were more ingredients on the inside, like rice, different sauces, or more veggies... I wasn't expecting rolls mainly filled with just protein and some chutney (although now I see that's how it's described on the menu, d'oh). However, they REALLY pack the protein in, so one kathi roll can be filling enough if you have a smaller appetite. I, unfortunately, have a bigger appetite. Yet again, late to the party for Spice Waala despite having it bookmarked for awhile. I always kept them on the radar screen after being showcased on a local podcast and programming. After seeing their IG post for mango soft serve, made an effort to finally visit on 3/3/22 for a late lunch. I was able to get nearby street parking and slid in before their lunch closure at 1430. I ordered a Lamb Kebab Roll ($8) and a mango soft serve ($5). Friendly and expedient counter service. I barely finished taking interior snapshots and my order was ready. The nicely wrapped kathi roll was so aromatic that I decided to dine pandemic style a la car. Unwrapped it and took at least two bites...wow, nicely flavored and wrapped in freshly made kathi roti bread! Then it became half eaten, then darn it all gone! Then totally savored the generous cup of mango soft serve. Seattle is fortunate to have so many ice cream, gelato, and soft serve spots...now I can add Spice Waala to the dessert rotation.
