This place was INCREDIBLE!! Service was great - we called ahead and our order was ready within 20 minutes. They have curbside pickup right now - I got the bag of food and realized there were no utensils in there since they don't have any pre-packaged utensils. When I went back and asked, the employee there was able to wash two plastic forks and spoons for my friend and I and put them in a separate bag. Such friendly service - she was happy to do it! The food was SO good - my friend ordered Red Curry with tofu and I had the Pineapple Fried Rice with tofu. The fried rice was the best one I ever had and had so many different flavors/ingredients - cashews, pineapple, raisins, egg, just to name a few. My friend loved her food as well - she said it had just the right amount of spice and she ordered Medium spice on hers. I came here for a late second dinner. Overall the dishes could use a bit more flavor, but the vibe was very homey. It really feels like you're being taken care of. We had the lettuce wraps, Tom yum, and drunken noodles. The lettuce wrap was a light starter and came out with 6 pieces. I like the idea and the amount, but the accompanying sauce needs to do more to compliment the dish - carrots and lettuce do not have much flavor by themselves. I'll skip next to the drunken noodles. The noodles had a good mix of vegetables and chicken, but some pieces of chicken were tough to chew. I'd personally put more garlic, peppers, and fish sauce or soy sauce. read more

Shaking my head... This food is lackluster. We ordered the yellow curry, spicy basil fried rice, tom yum and sa-te. The curry was bland, the jasmine rice was overcooked and not fragrant. The spicy basil fried rice was not spicy at all but instead salty. The sa-te was overcooked. The soup was meh. Overall a pretty sad experience. We are good eaters and rarely leave food behind and if we can't finish we always eat our leftovers. We neither finished our meal nor saved it. I would not order from this restaurant again. We had the lettuce wrap appetizer, Thai iced coffee, salad and the ga prow chicken. The appetizer was okay but the chicken ga brow(basil) was not what I expected, pretty salty. We had ga prow before and it looks and tastes much better. Somehow the dish taste more like Chinese food than Thai. However, I would return for other dishes. This place is a family favorite. I thought I'd write a review to encourage everyone in the area to check it out! Here's my personal favorites: House salad (amazing peanut sauce dressing) Fresh rolls (if you're a vegetarian, you can substitute the shrimp for tofu) Curry Puffs (sometimes they run out of these, so definitely order if they're in) Pad Thai (I ask for tofu and vegetables) Vegetable Rainbow Ginger Stir Fry (I think i've tried the eggplant before as well and I enjoyed that too) It's pretty small inside, and at first you may be skeptical, but both the food and service are amazing so do not be deterred. How have I not reviewed Spicy Lime yet? I have been eating here once a week for years. I do not even know where to start really. I guess with the people, since they are half the reason I come back. The staff is small and the husband and wife owners are usually around, waiting tables and tending to takeout. It is great to see that after all these years they are still so involved with the day-to-day of the business. The food has always been excellent or very good. I cannot remember ever getting something that tasted off or bad and I have explored most of the menu at this point. Favorites include: fresh rolls, crab Rangoon, curry puffs, papaya salad, pho tak, red curry, pad woon sen, pad Thai, drunken noodles, pineapple stir fry (I've only had it with shrimp but a few friends swear by beef too), and ginger stir fry. The Thai iced tea and mango coconut sticky rice are nice sweet treats too! There is a good beer and wine selection that usually includes some local places and interesting breweries from afar, as the owner is a craft beer aficionado. They can be very accommodating to vegan/vegetarian diets too. For beginners, I would caution to stay on the mild/medium side of the heat scale. I have cried on a few dates before when I swung for the fences and tried to impress a woman by ordering "hot" (Does this work? Asking for a friend...) The space is small and utilitarian. It can fill up quickly on Friday and Saturday nights, on Thursday AHA! nights, or if there is a show at the Zeiterion Theater around the corner, so be aware of that. They are also usually closed all/most of January for vacation. They earn it! read more

This place is great. We eat a lot of Thai food in Seattle and the food here is just as good as anything we have had. They use a lot of fresh vegetables. The Phad Thai and Green Curry were top notch. I travel to Fall River quite often from NY where there is an abundant amount of good Thai restaurants and Spicy Lime is one of the BEST places I've been to. The owners are a very friendly couple from CA and Thailand. The food is prepared by a Thai cook so its as authentic as the cook. The tom ka and tom yum are delicious. In addition to traditional Thai fare they incorporate seasonal vegetables/fruits to make interesting and delicious specials such as their pumpkin curry and New Zealand lamb chops with a mango confetti. The complex flavors of spice and sweetness is the apotheosis of Thai cuisine. I highly recommend stopping into this cute little restaurant with extraordinary flavor. read more

If Yelp had "half-stars" I'd give this place 3.5 stars but it's not quite "Fan" material. The Spicy Lime is a nice establishment with attentive, casual servers, and a small, relaxed room for dining. It's only a six or seven table restaurant, and the prices are fair with a vegetarian entree being about $7, a meat entree being between $8 and $9, and a seafood entree starting at about $12-13. The seafood option seemed a bit pricey but I guess it's good they give you the option. There's a good variety of dishes. They are either soup based, salad based, pan-fried noodle based, rice based, or "whole fish." The portions aren't that much, and is the reason why I don't give this place a 4-star rating. Most meals (except salads) come with a small house-salad with a bit of peanut sauce on top (which is very yummy). We had the PadThai w/ Chicken, the Crying Tiger Salad, and the Rainbow Fried Rice with Shrimp. The chicken was dry and lacking flavor and the beef in the crying tiger salad was "ok" but the shrimp in the rainbow fried rice was pretty juicy. I liked the "refreshing" flavor of the crying tiger salad which was basically a large "house salad" with lime and onions, as well as beef on the side. If portions were raised, or prices dropped, I'd really like this place but for now, it's not quite a 4-star joint. read more

Ordered it through Grubhub for dinner last night, it was extremely bland. There wasn't any flavor in either the pad Thai or the drunken noodles. The drunken noodles came with a small container of the spice/flavor oil and even after mixing in the entire container, it was not enough to spread to the whole dish. It being stretched out so thin, it barely had a noticeably different flavor than plain cooked noodles and vegetables. Was really disappointed given how much it cost. read more

Ambiance was pretty much non existent. The plain white walls & dirty windows were very unappealing. The few pieces of art work they had were beautiful, but I wish they would clean the place up a bit. If you can't take the heat...then stay out of Spicy Lime. If you do however, gravitate toward Thai food that is plentiful, flavorful (served as hot as you can stand it), and affordable, this is your go-to place in the heart of downtown New Bedford. It's a safe bet that any place with "spicy" in its name knows how to inject some chili-infused intensity into a dish. Spicy Lime brings it, in a good way. When I informed my dining companions that I love spicy foods, the SL veteran in our group ominously warned me that I should select the "medium heat" option for my entrée, a ginger, veggie and tofu stir fry. That was sage advice. "Medium" heat is quite sultry enough, thank you very much. I inquired aloud what type of otherworldly palate could possibly withstand the "hot" option; to which my friend replied, 'Thai people.' I'll have to take her word for it. I washed my dinner down with a cold Singha beer, the perfect accompaniment to a meal that came with plenty of flavor and more than its fair share of bite. Service was prompt, friendly and casual. Our group of four arrived about fifteen minutes before the kitchen was due to close and there was only one other table of patrons left in the dining room. But we were still welcomed in and allowed to linger over a well-paced meal that included a nim chow appetizer and a bowl of steaming tom yum soup that we all sampled--those delicious ingredients are just plain good for the soul, and whatever autumnal chill might be ailing you. Dinner split four ways came to just $17 each (that includes the tip). In terms of ambience, well, it's best to keep things brief: the dining room is very small (about 6-8 tables), basic and functional; its large windows look out on a lonely stretch of Purchase Street; if you sit with your back to the outside world, you won't miss anything (in fact, your view might be more pleasant). The bathroom is drab. It's a straightforward Thai joint: not the place to go if you want to dine amid attractive décor. At the end of a marathon shopping day, simply getting off our feet and kicking back together was enjoyable; but if I was a local, I'd probably count Spicy Lime among my fave spots for takeout. For Thai food in the South Coast area, this gem can't be beat. The food is delicious, flavorful, and as authentic as you can get. My husband and I came in for dinner on a random Wednesday night and about 3 of the 7-8 tables had parties in various states of sup, and the two servers were tag teaming about in a timely manner. We ordered a few appetizers (spring rolls and gyoza) that were out of this world. The pork in the gyoza was phenomenal and the spring rolls were just the right level of fry-ness. Our entrees, the crispy plum duck and pineapple fried rice, were delectable and large for the price we paid. Our waters were garnished with lime as opposed to lemon, giving a lovely fresh taste, and I tried the Thai Iced Tea with no regrets whatsoever! If I have to make a suggestion, it would be to brighten the decor or at least unify the theme inside. I like the string lights hung in the windows, but they didn't quite work with the art on the walls (in my book, anyway). We'll definitely be back regardless! read more

Every food item is fresh and many are imported for a true authentic meal experience. It was convenient, being right around the corner from where i went to school (sometimes we could smell the restaurant in the kiln room at school, which was kind of tortuous), but if i had the time, i would still go to Sivalai Thai in Fairhaven over The Spicy Lime. still, this place does have merits. The Pad Thai is mediocre, so i would avoid that. however, the green and red curries are great; the Tom Kha soup is also top notch. The entrees are a bit expensive for New Bedford (closer to $15 than $10) and the portions are not that big. The dining room is a bit claustrophobic and frequently drafty (i attribute this to the large windows in the front of the restaurant). still, good in a pinch. read more

I had high hopes for this place after I read some of the rave reviews. Unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations. The food was good, but somewhat bland. I had the fresh rolls, the tom yum soup and the green curry with chicken. The fresh rolls were boring. Basically lettuce and some vegetables in a rice paper. The peanut sauce was good. The tom yum soup was the best part of meal. The broth was delicious. The curry was not very well seasoned or complex. It fell a little flat. All in all it was an average meal. Good- but not great. Since I work in New Bedford I'm sure I will eat here again because I love Thai food. But I will try some other menu items. Bottom line...expect good Thai food that is fresh and nicely portioned but don't expect to be blown away. read more

This is our "go to" spot for lunch. Thai Fridays are all about the Spicy Lime. For years now, we've really enjoyed their food. And, their Fresh Rolls became a staple in what we order. Because of their delicious Fresh Rolls, I had started ordering Fresh Rolls at other restaurants....but I've since stopped. NONE can compare, and I'm always disappointed. Spicy Lime Fresh Rolls are full of fresh vegetables and the basil is a key flavor. The peanut sauce that accompanies them is amazing. I just ordered take out for New Year's Eve, and had to pick up at 1 for dinner at 6. Even re-heated it was outstanding. Their Pad Thai has plenty of vegetables, which other restaurants often omit. This place is a gem. Almost ashamed to say I had never been here before recently. Needless to say one experimental dinner and three days of take out lunches later, I'm a fan. Everythings cooked to order and super fresh. Because they cook to order and are awesome, they can cater to any allergies under the sun including (drum roll) gluten. Being gluten free is definitely getting less like a sucker punch to the teeth and easier to work around. Since moving to New Bedford, the Spicy Lime has become one of my staple restaurants. It is a ma and pop outfit and is very casual/hipster. My favourite meal, the medium spice duck curry with a Sapporo, definitely hits the spot. There is usually slight variations in ingredients for menu items, which I like since it keeps you on your toes. Their specials are usually interesting and yummy, last time I went it was a mango scallop red curry which I enjoyed. Compared to my favourite Thai place back in Washington the prices are a bit steep.
