Ordered the Gang Pah with pork, extra hot. I like my Thai food extra spicy and Spicy Thailand did not disappoint. I eat a lot of extremely hot food, so even when I order "extra hot" from most Thai places it still isn't quite hot enough for me. My Gang Pah was full of whole Thai chiles, chile flakes, and a delicious spicy curry sauce. The portion size was just right for a filling meal. I also ordered the spring rolls, which were only so so - they are a bit on the small side, but they do give you 2 of them per order. They kind of reminded me of the tiny frozen spring rolls you might find in the grocery store. However, because my entree was so awesome and wonderfully spicy, and the girl at the front counter that took my order was super cute, I give Spicy Thailand 5 stars. After they got rid of my favorite menu item, I figured I'd give them another shot and order a similar dish, lob, which comes with a side of rice. I received my lob and instead of rice, they gave me an order of spring rolls. Like.... how? How does that happen? Their spring rolls come in a bag; I know this, because I ordered a pair, and they came in a bag. So instead of putting rice in the rice container, they somehow accidentally gave me spring rolls? The Thai iced tea was basically orange water; zero taste. I will never eat here again. I gave it a second chance several times, and each time gets progressively worse. Been going her for 20 years and watched this place change go from the original owners to new owners then back to the original owners for awhile now. The original owners product was excellent! They opened a location in Shelby Township. The new owners of this restaurant have a bland product, not even spicy and are using what appears to be cheap product. Don't waste your time. If you are going to leave the menu alone and are going to change the recipes of the items on the menu to something that is bland and flavor less, then maybe it should have re opened to something like tasteless Thailand. This is surprisingly one of the better Thai spots I've found in SE Mich, though I've lowered my expectations compared to my previous home in San Francisco (thus a higher rating here). I'm a fan of curries, especially red, green and panang. Spicy Thailand is quick, affordable, friendly and tasty. Best authentic Thai in metro Detroit! They use the best Thai chillies that are actually as hot as they should be. If you order hot be ready to save half for after you've stopped sweating. If your a wimp order no spice. Recommend the Tom Kha soup it is always consistently glorious. read more

So, this is some of the best Thai food I have had in awhile. They were quick and nice. I ordered out and being new to the area, I have been just trying out new places every time until I find just the right place. I will be back here for sure. It was just me at home tonight so I got chicken friend rice not spicy and it's awesome. Fresh chicken instead of the weird "chicken" cubes most places have. I also ordered drunken noodle medium spicy. And it is SPICY!!!! Probably to the standard of very spicy that most other places are. So if you want medium spicy like I did, I will order just a little spicy in the future. They do not skimp on the spice, but it's kind of my own fault since the place is called spicy Thai. Food-wise, Spicy Thailand is terrific. It has some of the best Thai food that I have tasted in the metro area! Service-wise, however, it is terrible, and it wasn't always this way. I don't know if the restaurant is understaffed or if there are corpses working in the kitchen but Spicy Thailand is extremely slow with food prep and attending to the customer. When a hungry customer calls in an order and is told that the food will be ready in 20 minutes, then it should be ready in 20 minutes; not 40 minutes later. Lunchtime can create a hectic situation - I get that. But I heard the waitress tell customers, "It will be just a couple more minutes," too many times, so I walked out. I know that I left a really good meal on the counter but I will not give Spicy Thailand a dollar more of my business until they fix their customer service problem. read more

I am not one to post on yelp often but I was so disappointed with this place. My husband won an auction with a bunch of restaurant gift cards. We have no had a problem with 1 gift card all of them were honored did different restaurants in the area except this establishment. I went to use the gift card. Signed and also had the restaurant number on it. The manager came out and said he never sold a gift card and doesn't know where I got it. You can see it was legit it had your address and phone number. So the gift card was a bust and it was not honored. This gc had no expiration date either. A business owner should have seen this was legit and honored it. Nope I paid. My husband thought I should have left the food. I didn't want to be a complete jerk so I paid and moved on. We got home and the food was horrible. Pepper steak literally had about 5 pieces of steak and the rest peppers. I can normally get an order of this at any restaurants and split up the steak for both kids. There was not enough to do that. I got pad thai. Right when I opened it there was no sauce on it. The noodles were sticking together. Then again about 5 small pieces of chicken. On a positive note the chicken satay was good. We will not be going back. Complete rip off all around. I used to love this place. Now it's under new ownership & it sucks! The portions are unreasonable and I don't ever get what I wanted. Recently I ordered assuming my uncle still owned the place but not knowing he sold his business to a couple and they had someone else running it, anywho I order gang gai with tofu and add potatoes. When I finally got my order, I was furious. I didn't receive what I wanted! Gang gai usually includes bamboo, assorted peppers, and mushroom. Which none of those was in my dish! I ordered lunch portion so it was rice on one ride and my "gang gai" on the other. It was literally only the curry with coconut milk, tofu, potatoes, and onions! Like what?! This isn't gang gai! After that I never ordered for there ever again! I heard some pretty bad things after the new ownership. So now, I'm on the hunt for a good Thai restaurant! read more
