They have several facilities including a gym, climbing wall and swimming pool. In addition, they offer fitness classes spread over each semester offering a wide variety of courses and daily sessions. You do not necessarily have to be a member nor do you have to be a current student to use their facilities. If you're a member of the public, it will cost slightly higher than if you pay and go as a Liverpool University student. Overall, I do recommend the sports centre. It has a lovely gym and sports hall where it is great for anything from 5-a-side football to badminton. Membership prices are generally reasonable for a student but I would only become a member if you are committed to using the sports centre quite often; at least once a week to benefit.

The gym is quite large for a city centre as it is actually located deep down below street level. It has 24 hour access and a fun door tube thing that needs a personal code (my favourite part of the experience.) There are plenty of machines and didn't seem to busy even at peek times! (6-9pm weekday). Maybe that was because there was so many treadmills/bikes? For a first time gym goer I definitely feel at ease to go again. Looks like they have a large group of personal trainers on hand to hire too! Also seems clean and has a customisable protein shake machine! Looking forward to giving that a go! Good music too! Only downside is that there is no pool or sauna, but for £10 a month it's still a pretty good deal.

Set just aside from the magnificent Georgian Quarter, the Wellbeing Centre is the number one place to de-stress and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. I remember attending a 90 minute beginners Yoga class when Liverpool iced over in February. My shoulders and neck were sore from being at a computer all day and I was cold to the bone. I paid my five pounds, attended a fantastic class and fell flat out asleep at the relaxation period towards the end of the session. I woke up feeling warm, de-stressed and relieved. I've since been back for four or five sessions and would recommend everyone to give the Wellbeing and Yoga Centre a try!

There is a lot of Hot Yoga classes, where you really get your sweat on, the teachers are really good and even as a first timer, i did not feel as though it was to complicated, as they are great at making it simple.

The thought of being in a sweltering hot room with a load of strangers, getting myself into extremely challenging positions was not something I relished but hey, I'd heard how much weight you could lose from hot yoga and my friend had raved about it so I thought what the hell. On entering Your Yoga Studio which is tucked away down the not particularly salubrious Wood Street (adjacent to Bold Street so if you go to an early morning class the detritus left by the previous night's revellers can be a bit off putting) I was immediately struck by the cleanliness and lovely calming atmosphere. I suppose you'd expect that from a yoga studio but I was honestly really impressed by this. The decor is calming yet funky and the layout of the whole place is excellent. The staff at YYS are extremely friendly and knowledgable and you can tell they practise yoga which bodes well. It doesn't fill you with confidence if you go to a gym or similar and the staff look as though they're about to keel over from a heart attack; not so at YYS I'm happy to say. I'm delighted to say that not only did I get through the class without expiring, I actually came out of it feeling amazing and determined to continue which I have. There is a pretty good variety of classes from the dynamic 'vinyasa flow' to the slower paced 'yin' style but I would say most abilities are catered for. I certainly didn't feel out of my depth as a total beginner. I must say a GIANT gold star to Your Yoga Studio for the cleanliness of the place; it really is spotless. As someone who really struggles with public changing areas in gyms and swimming baths I actually found changing and showering here a pleasure and that's saying something! I would say that Your Yoga Studio is probably at the higher end cost wise as opposed to other places but you definitely get what you pay for and if you're serious about hot yoga then I would say a membership at YYS is an investment. Just a tip though - mat and yoga towel rental is £1 a go but you can buy your own yoga mat for a tenner from Home Bargains and get a yoga towel for the same from Amazon which will ultimately add up to a saving if you go often enough. We at our office (Sale Print FX in Manchester) wanted to start taking MMA classes. There's seven of us who have never trained in MMA before and we're not what you would describe as tough bunch. Anyway, we contacted The MMA Academy in Liverpool as we heard that those guys have some of the best MMA training facilities and instructors in the northwest and we heard that are putting together corporate MMA packages. 9 of us travelled to Liverpool for a 2 day beginners training package. The sessions were 5 hours per day which seems frightening but we went through the main martial arts that MMA applies. We began learning basic defensive and attacking moves for Muay Thai Boxing, Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, how to integrate those disciplines. UFC Star Jason Tan was our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach (OMG!!) we had the immense ex British Muay Thai Boxing champ Peter Davies for Thai and the (GSP LIKE) Al Sheperd for wrestling. This was like a dream come true for us guys as we have actually watched theses guys compete and now they are teaching us!!! The two days were absolutely amazing introduction to MMA for us. The corporate package meant we were trained personally and had the gym to ourselves. Think some of the guys in the office were worried about some Brock Lesnar kinda guy wanting to make us tap out ! It wasn't like that at all. Our anxieties were soon gone and we engaged in the most brillian sporting experience ever. I was bleedin' knackered after like but I suppose that WAS the intention! We get to Liverpool twice a week now an Jason Tan is getting three of us into his Ground Control Grappling event as novices which we are really looking forward to do. Jason, Peter, AL and Ryan thanks lads. it has been amazing to get into MMA. The gym and coaches ROCK!!
