They recently did the place up and expanded into the premises next door; now they have a shiny new deli and a comfy sit-down/cafe area. My only real issue with this place is that I have gone in there a number of times looking for something only to find that they have run out or just don't stock it. For example. they sell hotdogs but they don't stock hotdog buns at all.

Their deli is very impressive, their wraps, sandwiches, salads are very fresh and good value. They also make fresh pizzas, but I haven't tried them yet. They have an ATM at the back of the store, but this is often out of service, but there is an outdoor ATM just up the road a little (a minute's walk or less). They've got groceries, off-license, newspapers/magazines, lottery, almost anything you could want, but I wouldn't do a full weekly shop here! They are open 24 hours, which adds a star for me!

It has a large shop which has everything from cards to groceries. The shop is a bit haphazard with stock and shelving in the middle of the floor but it makes for a more homely feel to the shop. Everywhere has gotten so clinical and uninviting but this place is fine. There is also a cafe attached on to the right of the shop but for some strange reason it never seems to be open? I see signs saying coffee and sandwiches for sale, and a smoothie bar but the other day at 3.30 in the afternoon it was closed. The staff are pleasant and have always had a smile when i was there even if they don't speak perfect english. I prefer pleasant over bored faces any day.

The shop is, as mentioned, a squeeze at best, not helped by the maze of news stands, sweet or card carousels, plus other shoppers nipping in for a packet of John Players and the Daily Mail. In the spirit of full disclosure the lino floor has seen better days, and the stock is minimal; but as a common convenience with a breath of the good old days McGroarty's is a lovely stop along a well street.

Prices are more than Tesco- but Londis are all over, so more convenient if you've forgotten something. I'm very appreciative of them. Never noticed much difference between them- some are bigger, some are smaller, but the offerings are pretty much the same- except some have the deli and some do not.

There's a machine serving Insomnia coffee, which doesn't taste half bad for a button machine, though is reasonably pricey at €2 a pop... They have the usual vast selection of sweet treats and savoury nibbles, and a shelf of staple cupboard items for the offices and residents on campus, like instant coffee and packets of dried pasta. The best reason to visit this Spar though is to pick up a half-price newspaper.
