Had high hopes for this cafe on a visit to Chichester. Gluten free options advertised on board outside which swayed me into going in. Sadly, although staff were aware of what gluten- free ingredients were, they had no idea about the seriousness of cross-contamination and the bacon sandwich I ordered was buttered on the same surface with the same knife as gluten-containing food by a staff member who didn't wash his hands between touching gluten and then touching my gluten free bread, Because I am intensely sensitive to even the smallest molecule of gluten, I was unable to eat the sandwich. I explained why to the member of staff who had taken my order, however she was defensive stating 'we have glutens in here all the time.' I tried further to explain the importance of not cross-contaminating and used the example of the butter and knife they had used. She told me they use the other side of the butter!!! I received no apology or offer of a refund and left feeling, as I so often do, that catering establishments see gluten intolerance as a fad, lifestyle choice or form of fussy eating. If you have any sort of gluten sensitivity, avoid this cafe and its claims to serve gluten free food. read more
