You need to drop by this cozy shop in Zona Romantica and buy to your heart's content while there's still the chance. That is precisely what I did on my recent trip to Puerto Vallarta. It's bittersweet since it may be my first and only visit, but I'm so grateful I made it there. The one thing I'm always on the hunt for while on vacation is handmade art. I spent over a half hour doing multiple loops around Lucy's making my selections, all the while chatting with the delightful Jonathan who was manning the front desk. From whimsical Oaxacan alebrijes and Día de los Muertos art to intricately woven textiles and stunning jewelry, the sublime artistry of Mexico is on full display here. Lucy herself made an appearance and it was lovely to meet the proprietor and namesake of this magical shop. The fact that for 25 years Lucy and her husband Gil traveled around Mexico during the off-season to stock up on inventory for their shop is beyond inspiring. It also makes me understand why they are ready to pass the torch and retire. I really hope they find a buyer who will continue their legacy of showcasing small-time artists whose work deserves to be seen and admired. We need more establishments like theirs in this world, not less.

We have much-enjoyed several extended visits to the store over the years of our Vallarta stays -- chatting, browsing, and buying, and have much appreciation and admiration for the offerings there. And a not to miss event -- their "Anniversary Store/Street Parties" - held at the store in mid-November - they're loads of fun, and offer a wonderful opportunity to see the products they sell, talk with the owners (Lucy and Gil), and mingle with others (tourists and locals alike) doing the same .. and there's some good drink and music served up as well! Lucy and Gil are wonderful hosts, and they offer some of the finest Mexican arts and crafts to be found in Vallarta. A "must do" during any visit.

As it had been a couple of years between visits, I was not fortunate enough to find matching painted bowls, but the smaller bowls still match in shape and style. This shop is part of an awesome flea market along the river a block up from The Malecon, not to be confused with the outdoor one between old and new town.
