Shooting in Australia...you either get one of 2 reactions.
The first is "that is so dangerous" and the second is something along the lines of "that is so cool".
For me, I think it is an interesting sport/hobby/experience that people can try out. There aren't many places in Melbourne that offer this and SSAAVIC provides the gear, safety instructors and space for it.
I have only been here twice as a non-member ($30 per visit adult day) which means you pay a bit more to go in and rent the rifle and buy the bullets however I have always had fun.
Surprisingly, target shooting is tiring as it requires an immense amount of focus and attention. Breath incorrectly and you miss your target or incorrect positioning and you could end up with a bruised shoulder or cheek from the kick back of the rifle.
There are a variety of targets to choose from and if shooting a picture of a rabbit isn't for you, you can alway get the regular ones (targets range from .50 c to $2 from memory).
Using the .22 rifle that I rented from range, I get a box of 50 bullets and lasts me about an hour as I try to take my time.
Remember to listen to instructions carefully, stop if you are unsure and have fun. read more
