Sports Monster offers several sports. I played in their co-ed recreational (not competitive) kickball league. It was disappointing. Their price for a kickball league is the best in St. Louis so I'll give them that. Sign up through meetup.com (the group is called St. Louis Kickball, I think?) for a significant discount. The league is poorly organized though. They aren't flexible with individuals that aren't able to join the league with a team. The league was played in Deer Creek Park - gravel-like dirt infields, not kind to your skin if you slip or fall. Sports Monster technically has a sponsor bar, but they don't always offer food or drink specials. What's the point of a sponsor bar if it doesn't have specials? The umpires were awful. In one game, the "home plate" umpire sat 50 feet away from home plate and played with their phone without even watching the game at times. If you're getting paid to ump a game, at least be respectful to the teams that paid to play and give it your best effort. read more

I played their Sunday basketball leagues for 3 sessions starting Fall/Winter of 2019 through Spring of 2021. You'd be better off going and playing at a park for free. We only played in it as long as we did because of the location of Maryland Heights being convenient for our team, as well as Sunday's being the only day we could play. The refs are horrible, it would be better to just call your own fouls. They are disinterested, they showed up late all the time, including to our playoff game this past week. The people who ran the clock/scoreboard were always very friendly, I appreciate them being good people and helpful with their job. But the thing that truly threw us over the edge about our opinions about this league was this past session (started April 11, 2021). We had so many problems with their administration the past couple months. I don't think they could've botched their COVID responses more if they tried. They didn't announce that we had to wear masks while playing until after the refund deadline for dropping out was over, if I remember right they sent out the email requiring masks at all time the day after refunds ended. When I reached out asking about this new policy (which was different than they had summer of 2020 when the pandemic was much worse, we didn't have to wear masks then), I got a very snippy response from the guy in charge of the company about how it's my fault that we elected a "fascist dictator" and if I don't like it, deal with it. My teammate also sent an email about it and got just as rude of a response. We had to continue to wear masks while playing for a month past when the CDC announced vaccinated folks could take off their mask. They never sent out any sort of reminder to sign up for the next session to returning teams. I've never played in a league of any kind that didn't give teams a heads up to sign up for the next session. The league filled up before I had a chance to sign up. When I reached out about this, wondering why we never got a reminder, I never got a response back from the manager. They just completely ignored a simple question from a 3-time returning team that was one of the 3 or 4 teams that stuck through with the league during the pandemic. Joined the Monster St. Louis tennis league and was not disappointed ! Advertised as a fun social league and it delivered. A chance to meet weekly and play social but competitive tennis . Well ran with direction from monster employee . Recommend to all looking to continue or get back into playing tennis! read more

This company is incredibly shady. If all your games get rained out the still charge you. Not only that, but they will offer unacceptable make-up accommodations (random times, days of the week, venues) as an excuse to deny a refund. They will even charge you if your team cannot show up for a time/venue that you never agreed to in the first place. In summary, they charge for services they are unable to provide. I know myself, my team, and my work colleagues (we are always looking for good leagues to participate in) will be looking elsewhere next time. Pretty good company for rec sports leagues. Have played basketball and kickball with them. Basketball is organized well and is a great league. Kickball is solid but a lot less organized. And yes, somehow you can be unorganized at kickball... from umpires to field changes, to different rules per umpire, to not being able to get umpires. Overall good company. I played softball for a few completely frustrating seasons. The price you pay per team or individually for the amount of games you play is ridiculous. And when you do get to play, it's some new ridiculously disfunctional thing every time. I stopped being surprised after a while. Poor softball fields that are constantly rained out and not well maintained. There have been several occasions where the bases were not even out on the field at game time. The league administrators clearly can't be bothered to ensure the field is ready to go. Rainout notices are frequently not given until all players are already at the field and the umpire walks up 5 minutes prior to game time and sees that the fields are sopping wet. The umpire is not certified in any league, just some guy that sports monster can pay cheap for doing it, or it's an intern that gets run out there to give half effort. There are supposed to be safety rules in place for sharp comebackers at the pitcher. These rules are poorly and inconsistently administered. Lineup and fielding rules regarding males and females is like the Wild West. The umpire has no control over anything going on and continually passes the buck towards the league management, who often does nothing in the face of criticism. One incident even allowed an opposing player to charge all the way up to our dugout fence on 3 separate occasions looking to goad our team into conflict. The umpire did nothing to stop it. The league did nothing. When I contacted the league manager to address the issue, he stated in a direct quote, "You can blame us and the league all you want, but you are the only one who I received complaints from. I think that says a lot more about you than it does us." They don't like people who speak up against how poorly they run their league and will dismiss any criticism they receive. I would never recommend anyone play this league. If Bart replies to this comment as he has on other zero star comments, he'll likely try to sling mud at me for being a poorly informed or bitter participant like he did to others on this site. Really displays how dismissive their league is as a whole. This league is horrible. Avoid it. read more

After not being assigned a team that I signed up for and paid for, the "owner" Bart Fitzpatrick, continued to send me threatening, harassing, and emotionally abusive emails telling me how horrible of a person I was. I continued to tell him to stop sending me harassing emails but he kept sending me more abusive emails. I definitely would not recommend this very unorganized company. Go play with one of the many other leagues who won't take your money and not care. read more

HORRIBLE!!!! They advertise themselves as cheap and fun but actually its pretty expensive when you compare them to the Forest Park/Tower Grove leagues and the locations are really bad. It's way south, way west or ghetto north. No central location so I dont want to spend an hour getting frustrated in traffic to go "have fun". The owner is a complete @$$ too. I got shoved to him after I wanted a refund for having 5 games canceled bc the other teams didnt show. He was really disrespectful and unintelligent with his reasoning. He talked to me like a bully... whatever happens to being nice to you customers? He sounds like a pompous jerk! I would AVOID this league and play with a more popular organization or a bar league. So I got it through Paypal and now they say they are going to send it to collections. They set up their terms and conditions (which everyone reads) so that you have no option to get a refund. I signed up for two different soccer leagues, both of which were cancelled due to lack of signups. I was subsequently asked if I wanted to play in a different league. Having nothing else to do I agrees. Come to find you it was a coed league, which was not an issue. The issue was that they placed 15 individual signups, all which were men on one team. After two weeks we were informed that we were still only allowed to play with 5 men on the field, as coed league rules required 5 men and 3 women. The league placed the blame on us for having not read the league rules. It would have been nice had we been informed of such before we were placed in the league. I also sent numerous emails to the league manager with no response. This isn't even mentioning the lack of quality in the fields and the other teams. I would not recommend sports monster to anyone in the St. Louis area. read more

This is the worst run sports league I've ever been in. Signed up as an individual for a soccer league and our team had to play short because they put all guys on a team in a coed league. After promising two officials, they only had one ref who might make three calls a game outside of guessing on out of bounds from the middle of the field. They say you'll get a shirt but never deliver them. They make up rules as they go about offsides, subs, and just about everything. I recommend spending a little more for a decent league. read more
