The Sportsman Pub, Goddards Green, is a warm and welcoming country pub specialising in great home cooked food, some wonderful thirst quenching beers and some awesome live music on the 1st Friday of the month. The pub has been awarded the prestigious Cask Marque award and serves a great range of local ales and guest breweries. We have a large grassed outdoor eating area and huge car park!
The pub is open from 11am and serves locally sourced, freshly cooked food from 12noon-3pm and 6pm-9pm Mondays to Fridays, on Saturday we serve food from 12noon till 9pm and On Sundays we offer our traditional Sunday roasts as well as the standard menu from 12noon till 7pm (best to book as we can get quite full). The menus can be found on our website. Most dietary requirements can be can be catered for.
History
Established in 1800.
Goddards Green, in the heart of West Sussex, close to Hassocks, Hurstpierpoint and Burgess Hill, boasts the Sportsman public house.
Formerly, two pubs, the Magpie and the Sportsman, the buildings were knocked through into one. This establishment dates from about 1800, when it was recorded as a 'beer house'.
Today it is a Grade II listed building that is a dog, child, walker, cyclist and horse friendly pub, offering, locally sourced, freshly cooked food together with local ales, great lagers, lovely wines all served with a smile
Meet the Business Owner: Matt P.
The pub is run by Sussex-born Matt Palmer, who has over 20 years' experience in the catering trade. The pub has been given the "Buy With Confidence" award and the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence.
The pub is available for private hire, and can cater for wedding parties, wakes, children's parties, or corporate events. There is free Wi-Fi for customers, and a monthly prize draw, with a prize of a weekday lunch for four.
