Pros: - Centrally located in Williamsburg and easy to get to with public transport - Huge pool with very clean water - Facilities are OK, a little grimy but standard for public facilities with lots of traffic - No lines during weekdays, but I'm sure it's crazy during weekends Note: The description on https://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/mccarren-park/facilities/outdoor-pools/mccarren-park-pool does not convey how STRICT the rules are here. - You must bring a combination lock in order to enter the premises. They have 2 people at the entrance who scan your belongings and make sure you have a lock. - You must place ALL your electronics/valuables in a locker. Any bags and phones are NOT permitted and you can only hand carry basic essentials such as a towel, sunscreen, books, and water bottle onto the pool grounds. - They have eagle-eyed staff checking every entry point and they do not f*k around. Be nice to them, and they are nice back. - Beach lounge chairs are limited and they go quick - There is very little shade around the pool and you are not allowed to bring sun umbrellas or chairs, so a hat would be the best option. You are not allowed to lay in the little shade underneath or around the lifeguard chairs - They have a huge container of complimentary 30SPF sunscreen but yesterday it was all out. - The website says there's a daily "break for pool cleaning between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m." but we got kicked out at 2:35 PM so it's not exactly 3 PM. As long as you follow the rules you will have a great time!

Also generally not over crowded but it can be a lot of people though if it is a hot day. I think the entrance fee is very reasonably. I regret didn't buy the package because I just realized that unused pass can carry over to next year. I love the fact that we can purchase a day pass unlike some other pool that request yearly membership.The staff here is very welcoming. The pool is very clean and well maintained. Overall, I love everything about this pool. I just wish that they open a little bit longer. As far as I know the last day that they open for this season is Labor Day. I will definitely miss coming here after the season over. Love it. Keep up a good work.

That's a good thing -it gets about as much use as it can take. But if you are thinking of moving in, look at the gym closely to see if it fits your needs! The facilities are good in some respects: the pool is excellent, the Jacuzzi is a great way to relax after a workout or long day at the office. There are also saunas: one in the pool area and one, single sex, in each locker room. All these facilities, however, are more limited to the times when there is an attendant -Mornings, closed afternoons, open again evenings until 10:45, except on the weekend, when they close earlier (5:45 on Saturday). But for those who wish for a fully functional gym, this space may not suffice. You will probably have to join a gym, too. (And if this is a 'draw' for the building, you may find it less of a draw on close examination.) There is no free weight bench, or barbell, or rack for squats, or Smith machine, or chin-up bar or machine, or slant board for situps. There is only one step machinge and it's cheap and many generations old. Obviously there are many more things I could note as missing -but these seem pretty fundamental. The abdominal machine is poor, with a bar pushing into your sternum -an awkward, cheap version from the 1970s when this building was built. This speaks to the problem: there has been no update of the gym weights and machines since the place was built. There are a number of good things: a squash court, a ping pong table, the pool (70 foot!), And the facility is always clean. There is even a massage room, for after workout. The staff are always friendly. But if you are serious about keeping in shape, there are probably too many deficits to rely solely on this gym. And, unfortunately, the management has said they do not believe in updating (even minimally) because of cost and additional liability (which I don't understand) -and perhaps this describes the overall problem.

After a quick bag search, I went upstairs to the women's locker room which was cleaner than expected. Staff were nice in reminding us to lock up our stuff. As a former competitive swimmer, it was extremely difficult to do flip turns, not only because they closed half of the pool horizontally due to lifeguard staffing issues, but also because there were multiple people moving in different directions. It was busy when it first opened in the morning but then calm downed a bit and folks were able to do more lap swimming. Water was pretty clean and temperature was good; chlorine levels weren't too bad. Sounds like they close for the fall/winter so I'm hoping to come back before it gets cold.

For months, the drains in the showers didn't drain. They recently fixed that, but one of the benches by the lockers broke. Now there's only one and a chair or two stashed in the corner. Of all of the university pool locker rooms and pool locker rooms in general, this one has the most water on the floor. There is hardly any space, where it's not wet, to set your stuff down as you change. I think Baruch should consider floor mats or something. There has to be an alternative. The swimming pool in Greenpoint has some strict staff that opens their doors at the time of the class otherwise the door is locked to the pool. The pool is very clean but very small. I did not expect the pool to be really deep when I got in. It seemed like it was 5 feet deep when the sign on the wall said 4 feet. Lockers are very clean. The only con I have is the entrance to this branch is it is not stroller and wheelchair accessible. Wish there was a ramp going up and down.
