Nestling at the tip of the Lincolnshire Wolds in a picture postcard setting is Claythorpe Watermill & Wildfowl Gardens. it is Open daily from March until the end of October and is quite enchanting even though it was pouring with rain when we went. Over five hundred birds wandering freely you really feel a part of their environment, get close to them. They are very tame and come to you. The Bygone Area has memorabilia of milling and agriculture, and Ye Old Bakery depicts the milling and baking side of the Mills history which ceased in the 1970's. or you can choose to sample the catering areas with home fare on offer, delicious cakes and cream teas. The little gift shop and country fare haven is where you can purchase delicious homemade jams, local ice cream and much more. Not only can you visit this little paradise, you can stay here. Millers Cottage sleeps four and is available for weekly lets and short breaks in early and late season. A watermill has been on the site since the Doomsday Book and the current mill was built circa 1721. Claythorpe Watermill sits on the River the Great Eau and a smallbeck also meanders into the Mill Pond. The mill was famous for its bread which was why the two large chimneys were added to the statuesque buildings and it was sent throughout the County by means of the local Claythorpe station which was just a minute away. However when Beeching axed many of the rural railways in the 60's this stopped and the last Miller stopped working here in the 70's. During its history the mill survived three severe fires and during one at the turn of the last century it lost its waterwheel which was replaced by a turbine, which is believed to be the only remaining one in Lincolnshire and to be quite rare. The mill workings are sympathetically displayed to visitors with the use of mannequins and glass panels although not in use anymore. In the early 80's the mill was saved from dereliction and subsequently became Grade II Listed. The existing business of a Wildfowl Gardens/Visitor Centre was established in 1988. This family-run business has subsequently become one of the most renowned tourist attractions in this area of Lincolnshire which is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Nestling at the tip of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Focused around the Mill Building the idyllic riverside grounds of approximately 3 acres are home to hundred of birds including exotic waterfowl, cranes, storks and ibis, flamigos, ducks, geese and swans, pure breeds of poultry, pheasants and peacocks, owls, monkeys, otters and wallabies and much more. In the lovely chalk stream of the Mill Pond are tame trout which can be fed. A nice day or afternoon out.

Lovely little pier on the Skegness seafront. It used to be much longer, but was thrashed by storms…read moreso often they just gave up. As it is, still a nice place to hang out and unwind in good weather. There's a "casino" attached (as always, open only in the high season), but there's no café on the pier as such, but several pubs are available in the area (about a five minute walk from the pier). In contrast with the cheap amusements nearby, this is a nicely quiet place.

There is the usual open green areas and woodland which are very pleasant to look around. The pets corner is one of the main attractions with lots of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats etc which kids can get up close with. There is also a falconry centre with all manner of birds of prey. The lake is pleasant to walk around and contains Carp, it is possible to buy food to feed them with. They actually come up to the surface and take it out of your hand! The cafe is very nice and very professionally run and serves a wide range of rather nice meals and snacks. Definitely a place to visit.

Hubbard Hills is a kind of valley just on the edge of Louth…read more Great for a walk or a picnic. A steam runs through it with stepping stones and bridges. Great for kids like me to play and paddle in. The stream is apparently Tennysons Babbling Brook. Walk along the stream path or climb and walk the top path above the trees. I fell down here age 13. I looked like Steven Boyd after the chariot race in Ben Hur..grabbed for a root to stop my slide and rolled to the bottom. It is VERY high and a long way down. Park in the farm field..full of wild rabbits. Have a tea or ice cream in the cafe. There is a brick built loo block. Many a happy day spent here.

I think Natureland has to be one of the best days out in Skeggy…read more I went along with my Nan and 2 teenage children and we all had a ball. Some of the Harbour Seals are older than I am and they still have a lot of life in them as they wriggle around their pool and put on a show for onlookers. The Baby Seals are so cute and it's great how they look after orphaned babies by feeding them and strengthening them up before they go back out into the Wild. The Penguins are very comical as they seemed to compete with the Baby Seals for the attention of the crowds. The male Penguin seemed to love having his photo taken as he climbed up the rocks to get as close to me as possible and pose for my camera. The Petting zoo is fun for the kids to feed the goats and they are very tame. One goat took a liking to my son as he let him pet him and then nuzzled his hand when he stopped. October is out of season for the Butterflies but the plants in the hothouse are Gorgeous and the Cacti are magnificent, so still worth a wander through. I really enjoyed the Reptile house although the crocodiles were hiding under the bridge and I even loved watching the Tarantulas (From behind the glass) even though I am a well known arachnophobe. We were lucky that we were there for feeding times. It was great to hear all about all the animals from someone who works with them very closely and obviously loves them so much. There was a little Q&A about the babies and we had the chance to buy merchandise. The Seal Sanctuary is a voluntary organisation and they have to raise all the cash to look after the animals themselves. I bought a Seal keyring for £1 and a notebook for £1.25, It is worth saying that they even take all the photos for the merchandise and literature themselves too. The day ends with a trip round the aquarium and then an ice cream or Hot chocolate in the little outside cafe.

Natureland first opened it's doors in 1965 and attracts thousands of visitors every year, we have…read morebeen several times and it never fails to amuse us. The children absolutly love it. Although its only small they have managed to fit so much in and yet it still doesnt feel like its over crowded. The seals for us have to be the main attraction, Natureland does a lot of work with abandoned baby seals which are so beautiful to watch. You do get the chance to watch the seals being fed but the feeding times do vary so make sure you check them prior to visiting. My children also love feeding the pets in what they call their 'childrens corner' which has goats, turkeys, rabbits and guinea pigs to name just a few. Aside from the Koi Carp these are the only animals that can be fed by the visitors. The Koi Carp actually scared me when we fed them as one literally took the food out of my hand!! They also have penguins, which are also part of the feeding which you will have the oppourtunity to see if you time your visit right. The Tropical House is actually my least favourite part of Natureland though thats probably just because im a big wimp!! It is full of all sorts of different animals from crocodiles to snakes and spiders!! Most are in glass tanks so its not to bad its when you have to walk over the bridge to get out and look down to find you are walking over crocodiles it makes you wonder what would happen if the bridge broke!! The floral place is beautiful though the first time i went there wasnt much in bloom, in here you also have the flamingos, the tropical birds and butterflies flying around. They have a blue lagoon restaurant inside Natureland which is reasonably priced though there isnt anything stopping you from taking your own food in as long as you dont feed it to the animals. There are picnic tables situated around Natureland. The prices are very reasonable, and children under 3 go free.

Maggie, Mike and there manager Rob are some of the nicest people we have, or you could ever meet. And for this reason we have travelled from the Scottish Borders to there site seven times in the last tree and a half years, and never not had a great time therefore we must give them five stars out of five we would be shocked if you can find better. The staff are very friendly, and are available to help at all times. The leisure centre has a giant water slide which is one of the drawing points of the town and community. The slide is popular for kids especially.
