Custom turkey sandwich and pickle of course
    Jim P.

Been craving a sandwich and not any sandwich but one that makes you think about when you're coming back. That is what happened on this first sandwich at Spread. The sandwich maker was super helpful and prepared it to my very persnickety requests - sorry. The turkey tastes like the real deal not random white protein. All the produce was very fresh as were the dressings (just the right amount). The room is neat and clean and you can sit outside where there are a few tables. Good selection of beverages including beers! Trust me - very good sandwiches!

Duchess and Mortadella signature sandwiches. :(

Really was excited to try this location as I've tried the campbell one. I must say the staff was nice so I added a star but I had to throw both my sandwiches away which is bad because I will try my darndest to salvage food. I got a duchess and mortadella one and both sandwiches were soggy from the liquid of the sauce. The arugula and sprouts were off I think because it hard a weird after taste. I also paid extra to add sprouts to one of my sandwiches and didn't get them. It didn't matter as I tossed the sandwiches out after trying to deconstruct and reconstruct the sandwiches adding my own fresh veggies. As soggy as the bread was, the meats were tough and dry. I feel so bad writing a less than positive review but the quality of the ingredients were just not it and now I'm out $40. Maybe I just got unlucky

My favorite sandwich is the Duchess and my kids love the ice cream. It's also my favorite spot to escape the heat during any Japantown festival.

I walked in and stood waiting to be seated while an employee, who appeared to be the owner or manager, continued talking with her kids instead of acknowledging customers. I don't mind waiting, but a simple "We'll be right with you" would have made all the difference. I decided to give them another chance. On a later visit, I spent a few hours working there and ordered drinks. When a friend joined me, he sat down and was completely ignored. No one came over to greet him or ask if he'd like anything. We eventually had to flag someone down just so he could place an order. After that, our server mentioned that Tuesdays were buy one, get one free on wine. I ordered my second glass, but it never arrived. When I asked another server about it, I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing them. The irony is that I would have happily paid full price--I wasn't the one asking for a deal. They were the ones who brought up the promotion, then acted bothered when I politely asked about the wine that was never delivered. The final straw was our most recent visit. We were seated at a table by the staff, only to be told a few minutes later that we had to move because the tables were supposedly reserved for the party sitting behind us. We moved without making an issue of it, but no one ever ended up using those tables for the entire time we were there. It was frustrating to be relocated after being seated, especially when the explanation didn't match what actually happened. At this point, it's hard to view these experiences as isolated incidents. The common theme has been inattentive service and an attitude that makes customers feel like they're an inconvenience rather than guests. There are too many great wine bars that genuinely appreciate their customers for me to spend any more time or money here.

There are weekly tournaments, a PC area, and plenty of board games. Because this spot is in downtown SJ, it can be a bit difficult to find parking, though for $10-20 you can find a spot in a nearby lot or parking garage. It is a spacious venue, and there is always something going on. They occasionally do get rented out for events, though, so I'd recommend checking ahead of time, especially if you're not a regular. The staff here is great; everyone is really friendly, and the bartenders are quick and accommodating. The food here is decent, though it can be a little slow in coming out. Their selection of drinks is solid as well, and the bartenders are helpful in making recommendations if you're unsure. Overall, it's a really great spot to hang out after work--there is free WiFi, a ton of space, and a lot to do. I'd recommend figuring out when they're hosting events you enjoy or coming by with some friends if you're interested in board games.
