A great place to get together with friends, get some pulled pork bacon mac n cheese, and hang out. I'd recommend taking an Uber. We were told after getting there if we'd been dropped off at the front we would have gotten a discount stamp. Spring Gate this past weekend was a sight to see. Beautiful vines, delicious grapes and amazing food vendors picked (lobster fest) paired of course with fresh wine and music. Everyone I spoke to that worked there was very knowledgeable as if they took their time to learn and appreciate the wine making process more than just to treat it like a job. We started with the sweet white and moved to the chene rouge which is their BEST wine and if you're lucky enough to get your hands on it, you'll also fall in love! They had a great tasting section to try all the vintages they had to offer as well as great discounts for specials they were running this past Sunday. This is a very beautiful venue with the barn converted into the winery and the pastoral views (including sheep). A tasting is a reasonable $5 to taste 6-7 varieties. For an additional $5 you can buy a souvenir wine glass. The staff are friendly and the wines good quality. Good enough that I would make repeat visits here to stock up on several bottles of my favorites. I love that they have a patio with tables and chairs for sitting and enjoying the afternoon. We were there on a Sunday afternoon and they had live music as well. The only reason they lost one star: they do not allow outside food nor do they offer food for purchase on Sunday other than the chocolate truffles. If you have a venue where you expect people to stay for several hours sipping wine, either provide little plates (cheese, crackers, meats, etc.) or allow them to bring a picnic basket. We brought cheese and crackers based on the recommendation of one of our group who had been there previously but the rules must have changed since she was last there. Nowhere is it posted on site "no outside foods" although looking on the website after our visit I did see where it states they offer ala carte catered food Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You may however bring a birthday cake and snacks if you have small children or babies. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely go back... but eat your Sunday dinner elsewhere before you go! read more

They focus mainly on sweet wines here so if you realky only like dry wines try somewhere else. For light, casual, fun wines this place had a lot to offer. Spring Gate is hit or miss. Their social media/marketing team does not communicate with the "troops on the ground" very well. I've gone here for no less than three functions promoted on Facebook only to be told by multiple staff they had no idea what I was talking about. The outdoor seating is fantastic. The beer is ok. The food trucks are generally good. The music is usually good. I don't drink wine but hear it's middle of the road. Bottom line; don't come here for the beer or wine. Come here for the outdoor seating area and to hang out with friends. 3 stars from me. read more

Came to Spring Gate with some family that came in from out of town. The propane heaters have no propane! The fire pits have no propane. So we came to see the live music in the fall and are freezing cause we are sitting outside with no heat. We arrived at 5:30 and they are out of the large cheese trays that you are required to buy do to COVID. How can you out of a cheese tray at 5:30 when you open at 4:00. So we bought a smaller cheese tray and no crackers came with the cheese tray. I would not come back. read more

I really wish I could like this place more! I have been here many many times and have had good experiences and bad. This most recent time however prompted this review. I was really looking forward to seeing the band that was playing the night before 4th of July. It was a Monday, so Spring Gate is normally closed, and I wasn't sure if it would be busy or not considering that. We arrived around 7pm to find that it was definitely already busy. As we approached, I was happy to see that there were still tables available.... until I saw the line. They had one register open for a line of about 30 people. We waited for 5 minutes then left. I did not want to spend that nice night standing inside in line for 20+ minutes for a drink. Also, since they use Square, you can't start a tab or anything, you have to check out every single time you order something, which has always driven me a little crazy when I'm there. Anyway, I will definitely be back because it's close to my house and the setting is beautiful. But from now on, I will only go in the early afternoon because that is when I've had my best experiences. read more

The wine is excellent, the food trucks are outstanding and the music tonight is exceptionally good.....BUT the tables and chairs available for customers cannot be described as anything but dirty. No good, clean place to sit our food and wine. Don't touch anything..... When I complained they said someone would bus our table.....never happened. For the wines and the wine tasting, one star. Everything on the tasting menu this weekend was 1) too young (nothing actually full bodied, the so-called buttery Chardonnay tasted as if it wasn't oaked at all) and 2) way too sweet. none of the stuff they claimed to be dry tasted dry to me, and by the end, i was just pouring the tastes out as they were sweeter than candy. a good winery can show it's ability to create a variety of wines and it shows this via the tasting menu. my second complaint is that the tasting is comprised of only a few selections but it appears that the winery actually has an additional 15+ selections which are only available by the bottle. i have never visited a winery that has such a large selection of wines that are only available by the bottle (and i've visited quite a few wineries). this wouldn't be such a problem if i had been impressed by the tasting menu but, having no confidence in the winemakers ability to create anything that doesn't taste young, i wasn't going to chance it. the wine slushies, although not the best wine slushie i've ever had, and the patio were the highlight of the experience. there were two food trucks parked out back and a deck of uno cards that kept us there for the afternoon. next time, i'd probably sneak a bottle from another vineyard in. read more

Only complaint was there was only one worker at the wine tasting and huge groups waiting for it. Other than that I would definetly be back again! This used to be my favorite place to hangout for a girls night or date date with the hubby when they 1st opened a few years ago but unfortunately Spring Gate has become a commercialized mecca for loud crowds. It was once focused on making quality wines but now they just make and hammer out as many flavors as they possibly can. Spring Gate lost its luster of a romantic "cool/unique" winery. If you are looking for a winery where you can sit back and relax this isn't the place to go. If you are into craft beer, food trucks and don't mind the noise of large crowds then this isn't a bad spot to go. read more

Spring Gate has absolutely stunning atmosphere, especially after dark. They have plenty of seating, and the individual fire pits are cozy. Wine slushies are delicious, although expensive, $9 for a cup. Everything is a la carte, and a good food truck line up has something for everyone. The staff are warm & friendly. The general property is non-smoking, but they do have a smokers lounge complete with seating, tent covering, & a heat lamp. read more

We had a great time at Spring Gate Vineyard when we visited recently. Even though it is right by the city, it is a short drive and it is as if you are in the middle of the country. The area is set up with numerous seating areas. The fact that there is a brewery as well as a winery is ideal for those who don't prefer wine or would just like a glass of beer. The entertainment was good, but not overly loud and intrusive. This also seemed to be a night time hot spot for the locals which is a nice difference from many wineries where they are mostly good for an afternoon visit. The wine itself leans a bit to the sweet side, but the fact that they couple this with a brewery makes all the difference. A definite place to visit if you are in the area. read more

I had a issue with a private event, left repeated messages for management to call me. no one ever did. the room I rented we had to bring our own table and chair for handicapped and older seniors citizen.. no place to change infants or to feed them. what should have been a happy baby shower was marred from lack of attention on the staff. read more

Very disappointed with Spring Gate Winery. Staff was not knowledgeable about their wine selection and although advertised as being open until 11 they told us the wine tasting stopped at 5pm. Subsequent to being told the tasting had stopped, they provided a tasting for another group. In addition, they do not disclose that all there wines are made in West Virginia. read more

Must visit! My husband and I were visiting Hershey and Dutch country and happened upon this winery as a time filler. We weren't incredibly impressed with the tasting, but it was only $5 and the scenery, live music, wine slushies, and sparkling wine and hard cider on tap more than made up for it. REVIEW OF MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH EVENT ONLY. Update. The brunch was hosted by a third party caterer and I was asked to revise my review. This event was billed as a Spring Gate Winery event, and it was hosted there. So no revision, just a clarification. We were extremely disappointed in this event that cost $27 per person. They sold out so they knew exactly how many people to expect. Event was 12pm to 4pm. We showed up at noon and got in the line of 30+ people. It took us 30 minutes to get in. As we waited they were just starting to put tables out on the lawn (which should have been done in advance). There was one small door in and out and minimal indoor seating unless you paid more to reserve, which meant my 80 year old parents had to balance their plate and drink as they navigated through the crowd and outside - no service at all. As we checked in, there were plastic cups of orange juice sitting out at the desk, so I grabbed one assuming they were included. Took one sip and realized it was a mimosa. The lady said that will be $6!! I was shocked - no sign or anything. A kid could have grabbed one just as easily. Then we moved into the very crowded buffet line. TERRIBLE and crowded layout with the drink station (coffee, lemonade and iced tea only) half way through in a crowded hallway. After we filled up our plastic plates with mediocre food we squeezed back through the entrance to eat on Adirondack chairs and side tables. The food was decent but the overall experience was very disappointing. And the staff did not seem to care or acknowledge just how poorly it was run. Still can't believe I had to pay an extra $6 for a mimosa that I didn't even want ... Just wanted a glass of OJ after standing in line for 30 minutes. 5 stars for the property - it is beautiful. 2 stars for parking - random and crowded. 3 stars for layout - they have food trucks and vendors in random spots and two bars next to each other that serve different things, but no signs. I think the beer was somewhere else. 2 stars for staff - they just didn't seem to care, definitely not there to "delight" their guests. Best service I got all day was when someone offered to take my trash as I was 2 feet away from the trash can. read more

We came for a quick wine tasting today ten minutes to five pm due to having an earlier engagement. We waited patiently for fifteen minutes for the employee to finish her sale only to have her tell us the wine tasting period was over since it was past six. She saw us before and told us she was wrapping up her sale and then stiffed us our wine tasting. When we told this lady we had been waiting patiently since 5:50 pm, she said nothing and proceeded to shuffle away. I hope this is just an anamoly and that this establishment has a better way of dealing with the rush of getting wine tastings in, but unfortunately we will not be coming back anytime soon. read more

Very cool atmosphere, yummy food trucks and great outdoor seating but the wine tasting is a disappointment. They give the tiniest amounts out of little plastic medicine cups! What kind of wine tasting doesn't use wine glasses? It was a huge letdown. Additionally, the bartender wouldn't let us buy a bottle at the cashier we were tasting at and instructed us to go stand in the very long line after our tasting. Understaffed and overpriced. We didn't buy a bottle after that experience to say the least. The wines were great but overall experience was a bummer. I hope they shape up their customer service experience. read more

We absolutely loved it here! The winery is set back on their private estate. Very peaceful and beautiful place. There are 3 different sections, champagne/ cider bar, wine bar, and the brew bar. I tried a champagne and a cider. I got a glass of the pumpkin spice cider as well as a growler! It was too good not to get more for home. My boyfriend had the pale ale beer, and we tried a few wines too. I liked the concept wine for 2 in the beer bottles; I got two different kinds to try. Overall I loved it here, and we can't wait to come back in a few weeks with friends! read more

I came out on this past Saturday with my aunt and cousin, we thought it would be a fun day to hang out and enjoy some wine but it was a complete disaster. The lines were so long, it took 45 minutes to an hour to get a drink, the employees were so rude, the slushies were not slushies, they ran out of wine and didn't restock. I have been to this place a number of times and most times I leave I say I will never go back, this time I mean it. It is not worth the time, money or headache anymore. I have complained numerous times also and all I get is an excuse. I certainly do not recommend this place especially in the summer. read more

We love Spring Gate! Beautiful setting, great wine and I really enjoy when they have have seafood fests. It's very nice that they give a discount to people who Uber if you show them your stamp. They also run a special after 5 purchases (over $18 I think) and you get $5 off of their already reasonable priced wine. I love the Merlot personally, but I have never had a bad wine their. It used to be me and my wife's little secret, but has since become increasingly crowded, but it still doesn't take long to get served. read more

My friend and I love visiting wineries and we had never been here before so decided to go check it out. We stopped at a few wineries on the way thinking we would have plenty of time since the hours at spring gate were advertised till 11 only to get there and find out they stopped doing tastings at 5pm which was NOT stated anywhere on their social media or even the tasting menu. So we drove 2 hours to end up getting an overpriced wine slush compared to other wineries in the area and mediocre food. Very disappointed with the visit to this place. I don't like buying bottles of wine I haven't tried but even if we did want to purchase something to sit and enjoy there the line to purchase was wrapped all the way around the inside of the building. We were also excited to try the wine soft serve only to find out they only serve it on sundays. The property was beautiful and they seemed to have a good selection but they need to better advertise what is and is not available each day and more staff to manage the ridiculously long lines to even get a drink. read more

Saturday, August 20th, was Penn State Harrisburg or Penn State day. When we arrived we bought a little tasting glass, then wandered around. We were offered a sample of the blueberry cider and it was quite refreshing. My husband did the wine tasting and seemed to enjoy the samplings. We wandered around and talked to a nice young lady who was selling wine floats, which we didn't have (because I wanted Penn State Creamery Ice Cream, and there was an Ice Cream truck that had this). The next food truck was cupcakes; we also noted bbq and seafood. There was a good variety, and people were pleasant and smiling.There was ample seating. Wineries are fun and nice, but can get monotonous. This place mixes it up a bit with a sprawling property just outside the heart of the city and a unique blend of wine and food. The wine is good, the food was great, and the ability to enjoy it on a huge outdoor patio with live music playing was great as well.
