I chose this facility for rehab after my ankle injury. I will say the place is really clean and staff seems nice although they were understaffed, those that were in were efficient and patient with my needs. I will say that this place needs to have a better system in place when admitting patients. I arrived around 3:30ish and was placed on my room with a bunch of people coming in/out - the head nurse showed up made sure my call bell was there and disappeared! Next time I saw the Nurse it was that evening and was told something totally different(wasn't his fault as my dr hadn't sent one of my meds with me to the facility) however, two broken ankles but no Physical Therapist to do an assessment until the next day? Wow! That mean patient isn't given a commode, wheelchair, crutches nor walker until someone sees them. I was given a bedpan the size for a child(I weigh 225) and basically told to figure it out! Big No no! Then the mattresses was so thin and uncomfortable if it wasn't for me not able to walk, I would've left the facility. I asked for an egg crate topper and was told they don't have them, so I did the next best thing-ordered one from Target up the street for delivery! One of the nurses was adamant I couldn't have it and administration was called! Clearly this wasn't a fight they weren't going to win! For the amount of money my wonderful insurance was paying, the good, the bed and the interactions should've been different. At one point, there was staff in the hallway discussing patients(me) and it wasn't a positive statement. At that point I'm feeling what are you saying about the other patients that are older and have no one to speak up for them? And yes, I mentioned all of this to administration when they arrived at my room in the morning. It's so much more I could say about the facility but what I will say is that please research before you place your loved one in any facility. Check for admission procedures, ratio of staff to patients, food service(they had nothing I could not wanted to eat there -I wouldn't serve that to my enemy) , cheap yogurt(c&c) never heard of them and I'm sure they're getting top dollar for each of those patients held there. My mom has been at Springfield Senior Commons Assisted Living for almost 4 years now. Having to move into a facility is sad and scary but the professionals who work at SSC are the most caring, kindest group of people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. And, I feel we are all working together to give my mom the best qualify of life. I feel very peaceful knowing she is in good, loving hands. My mother recently passed away. The last two years of her life were spent in the loving arms of the people who care for residents of this wonderful facility. Words cannot describe how the staff became not only her caregivers but her family. My mom had suffered a stroke at age 90 and when the doctors told her it was no longer safe for her to live on her own, we her family were confronted with the fact that we had to decide where our mother would live. We gave her the option of living with one of us, but being an independent woman, my mom decided she wanted to live somewhere with people her own age. She wanted us to find a facility where we ourselves would want to live. So we set out to find her a "home". Springfield Senior Commons checked off all the boxes for us - it is clean, well staffed, provides stimulating activities, good food, and so many lovely residents. In her almost two years there, she found friendships not only with other residents but a staff who always made her feel "loved". She even called her caregiver on her floor "Mother" as she felt she was cared for like a mom cares for their child. I came at different times of the day and always found no matter which staff members were on duty, the care was the same. I never once felt that my mother's care was anything but their main concern. Even at the end of her life that same caring staff was at her side bidding her goodby on her trip to the hospital. I moved both of my parents into SSC in July 2010. My dad passed away in 2012 and my mom remained until May 2018. I met so many loving, caring, kind and wonderful people on their staff. They truly love what they do and it shows in the care and concern they have for the residents. Residents are not a job. They are family . There is so much love given to the residents along with wonderful care. Big smiles are everywhere. My concerns and questions were always taken seriously and acted upon and I was always immediately notified if there was a problem. In addition to wonderful care, SSC is kept immaculately clean. Residents' rooms are thoroughly cleaned once a week and in between if necessary. The facility is beautiful and homey. Excellent entertainment, crafts, games, art, flowers and many more activities to keep everyone busy. I can't say enough about everyone involved with running SSC and caring for residents. Everyone gives their best to make sure residents have the best possible experience and quality of life while living there. If I had to be in assisted care, this is where I would go. read more
