Lo and behold, our friend was spot on - this church is awesome. I come from a chinese alliance church, so things are a bit conservative. Coming here opened my eyes to new things, such as the worship part.. It's no longer quiet or semi-loud.. The Bridge makes worship LOUD.. LOL. It's something I enjoy and have got use to. The messages are also very relevant and hits home quite regularly. Brian Childs is the pastor that does most of the messages and he is fantastic at what he does! This small church has a lot going on, from small groups in the church to helping the community (raising money, support for young pregnancy, etc).

It's a very diverse church which I like because they do embrace all cultures and ethnicities here. The main pastor of this church will make you want to stay as he is able to give non - judgmental sermons that are applicable to your life. I've gone to churches where I always feel like I'm being condemned, but not here. They focus on you having a relationship with God rather than a religion. They have three services but I usually go on Saturday evenings where it's less crowded and more casual. Honestly even if you go to church on Sunday morning in your jeans or tracks, no one would say anything. I do love that they include their congregation in understanding the finances of the church and where donations are going, which I find can be a place of criticism of people against Christian churches and rightfully so. They've got great presentations for Easter and Christmas and that's how I started going. They've done great renovations recently too and I am happy with the positive direction they are continuously going in. I still do visit other churches but I find that I'm more connected here.

I had to take a look. The area is known as Cathedraltown because, well, there's a large cathedral. I never have set foot in it. Originally built as a Catholic cathedral, it was closed from the mid-2000's onwards. There was some issue with getting a public occupancy permit. I still think that it remains closed for worship. Last night, I was fetching food from Cafe Mozaiko, which is on the same street. You get a beautiful look at this cathedral at the end of the street from any business on this stretch. There were plenty of cars parked in front of this cathedral after I had fetched my takeout. I frankly don't think that they were worshipers. Many folks with fancy sports cars like to gather around it. I'm not sure whether it's a nice hangout for folks to chat about cars and admire rims, or if they are praying that their insurance rates don't go up astronomically. It isn't an area where you can do some illegal street racing, unless Woodbine Avenue is considered the chosen course. It is bendy, but I have never seen any crazy racing on it whenever I'm on it. It's too residential for such a setup. They cathedral is beautiful to admire from afar. However, how often it's maintained remains a mystery. It may be slowly deteriorating externally. I didn't hear any bells ringing from it. It's sad to see such a beautiful cathedral sitting there and not being used for its intended original purpose. (41)

If you get a chance to go visit, you will notice the exterior steps are badly damaged, marble stone floors are all cracked and chipped badly. Weed growing in between steps and and cracks... Walking up closely, you would think it is an abandoned Cathedral.

The congregation has grown since my last review, and to accommodate a growing congregation, The City Church now has two (2) services on Sunday mornings - one at 9:00 AM, and another at 11:00 AM. The facility continues to be clean and well-maintained. There are wonderful programs for kids and youth. There are also City Groups for adults of all ages, catering to various interests and stages of life, so you definitely have a chance to build relationships and make friends in your church community. Dress code is casual to business casual. The sermons continue to be engaging and applicable to daily living. This is a wonderful community church in the GTA, and caters to all ages and backgrounds.

Meeting up here for a free walking tour (even though the tour guide did not appear, perhaps because…read moreof the rain), I had a good opportunity to see the outside and the inside of this beautiful church as well as the lovely grounds. The first church was build here in 1803-1807 with the aid of public subscriptions and a government grant. That frame building was enlarged in 1818-19 and replaced by a larger one in 1831. The first incumbent was the Reverend George Okill Stuart, who served from 1800 to 1812 when he was succeeded by the Reverend John Strachan, later first bishop of Toronto. The second church was burnt in 1839. Toronto's first cathedral was then erected on this site but was destroyed by the great fire of 1849. The present cathedral was begun in 1850, opened for divine service in 1852 and completed in 1874. The structure is stunning, the interior is classic and peaceful. It is open to the public and you're welcome inside but please keep in mind as you do so that this is an active church so please be considerate of the other parishioners.
