One of the big things for us in a church is the worship experience. The music was current and excellent, and then teaching was extremely applicable. Most Sunday's are about 75 minutes, and then we have joined a small group. Our child loves the nursery and can't wait to get to class each Sunday. TRADITION HAS ITS PLACE!…read more While we are visiting the wonderful city of Greenville, we wanted to attend this particular church because of its family connection. My husband's great, great, great grandmother Mariah was one of the founding members of this church. It was established in 1834. Neither of us have have attended a Methodist church before so this was a new experience. We opted to attend the traditional service because we wanted a different experience, (they offer non-traditional services as well). It was a nice, refreshing step back in time. Missing were the eccoutrements of the "modern" church service. There were no drums, or keyboards, no shorts and flip flops, and no monitors. There was simply the minister, the choir, an organist and a pianist. Yes girl!, it was a real "old school" service! Ms. Rose Mary played the organ and she SLAYED that thing in the house of GOD. It was great! She is really nice and spent some time talking to us after the service. She really down played her skills because she is the Director and not the regular organist. The regular organist is currently unavailable. No problem because she did not miss a beat. We also chatted with other members who were very warm, but not in that formal church way but in that "Hey girl, what's up?" kinda way. The church is very active in community outreach and missions work and as a matter of fact we actually met one of the members who was previously homeless. He is just a very pleasant and happy kinda guy who seems to be in a good place. He mentioned that he is in the process of preparing for a mission trip to Africa. The minister was a soft-spoken man who spoke in conversational tones. He was more about a message than a performance, (if you know what I mean). The service today was short and to the point, but the message was clear, Seek ye first... If I am ever in this area again, I will definitely drop in for a visit.
