I was impressed by this fact and thus decided I would venture inside to have my greasy and curly mane tamed by a professional. The atmosphere inside seemed a bit tense and I was a tad nervous that I would come away from here with a slight knick on the ear or another such similar accident which has occurred to me at barbershops before now. However when it was my turn to head to the seat things changed and my barber became chatty, friendly and an all round nice bloke which filled me with confidence that my scraggy mop of hair was in good and capable hands. The haircut turned out to be of a high calibre and the price was low too which left me looking less stupid and with slightly more cash so I would have to say good job done.

Perhaps one of the strangest Supercuts locations, it is located on Chester's St Werburgh Street,…read morebasically, next to the Cathedral, which is a slip road off the city's main shopping area, this is a place one would expect to perhaps find coffee shops and bars, so finding a hairdressers here is interesting, they sadly don't make the most of the location as it's hard to see the Cathedral from inside and impossible while you're having a hair cut, the poor construction of this store is a wasted opportunity of a hair cut with a view, which could give them the warrant to charge their high prices of £14.95 for a dry cut, I mean they might get away with this in large cities such as Manchester, London and Birmingham but charging that in the centre of Chester is just expensive and poor. The high-end prices didn't give me high-end treatment, I would even question if my barber was actually qualified to deal with men's hair (both staff members working were older women), she didn't even use any water on my hair when using the clippers to make it easier to cut (Every other barber I've been to has used some water?) The gown type sheet to cover me from hair also seemed useless, I'm not tall nor overweight and it didn't cover me, I ended up getting covered in hair especially as my hairdresser kept knocking it (the hair fell on me), which again isn't ideal. I was also confused why the staff needed to take a lunch break, an hour before closing when I was the only customer there as they seemed to time the break for as soon as a customer walked in; they also had to take my name to register me on their system which again I couldn't understand, I only wanted a hair cut! High prices and poor overall service is the reason Supercuts is failing (They recently entered administration) and the Chester branch here shows that more than most. 1*

Very pleasant and welcoming staff here; the lady who managed to tame my thicket of hair, did it expertly and efficiently for £10 - with just the right amount of genuinely-interested conversation to keep things friendly all round. Sure, I know plenty of places where I could get my hair cut cheaper, but at least here they still adhere strictly to old-fashioned rules of hygiene - all implements in sterilising solution for a start - so you know you won't be going home with some sort of weird infestation (sadly, many's the barber shop these days, where the comb comes directly off the previous customer's head, then straight on to yours). The only negative? The unrepresentative, and fly-blown looking, standing sign out on the pavement really needs a re-paint (or burning).

Instead, the stylist nearly ripped half my hair out attempting to comb it (god knows how - I have generally lank, straight hair) and then announced that I must've done all sorts to my head as my hair was like wire wool. At this point, my patience was thin, and then I asked her what she was planning to do to condition and treat my hair before she trimmed it. She told me she would just slap some conditioner on and leave it to soak in. Bloody marvellous, I thought. And that is literally what she did. I got a head full of sloppy conditioner, and then they put me under a heater. Now, I may not be a hair expert, but I'm pretty sure drying conditioner onto your head isn't the best way to go about things. After leaving me baking for about half an hour whilst she gabbed to a colleague, my attentive stylist came back, and after rinsing out the caked-on conditioner, proceeded to cut half my hair off, claiming it was 'beyond rescuing'. I can't remember how much they charged me for this delightful experience, and it was a good few years ago now, but the salon is still going strong so I must only be one of a few disgruntled customers!

In my experience the haircuts I've received have been a bit hit-and-miss but I get the feeling that if you go in with a definite idea the stylists would be more than happy to meet your requests. Some stylists can be quite expensive but the loyalty card they offer represents good value for money (if you can afford 7 haircuts first) and they also offer student discount.

The staff are very friendly, greeting you warmly when you enter. They have a range of options available for a hair cut to match your budget. The Senior Stylists are the most expensive as the Junior Stylists are the cheapest. The shampoos and conditioners used and on sale in Aura are the expensive Tigi range. They smell delicious and make your hair feeling amazing. I've bought products from here when there has been a special offer for a shampoo and conditioner set and loved them. The stylists are very professional and really take the time to ensure you, and they, know exactly what you want. The trainees wash you hair in preparation for the cut and give you a lovely head massage when they apply the conditioner. The stylist then takes over to begin your cut. Again they take their time making sure they give you an excellent cut, blow drying it exactly how you want it. They also give you tips on styling your hair when you've washed it, and different ways you can wear your new style. They ask if you want any products and if you say yes they will recommend the best products for your hair, but if you decline they do not pressure you into buying anything. She was apologetic, but still, my glasses that are integral for me to see were broken. I couldn't see the end result of my haircut and was still charged the full price for it. (I needed assistance home/to cross the road because I could not see.) No manager was at the salon so called I the next business day to speak with one, but the person I spoke with was very suspicious and only after a lot of pressing was given the name of the manager. I also had to post to Facebook to try and get more information. I called again when I was instructed to, but again no manager was in. Finally after leaving my name and number did a manager finally call me back. And she was neither friendly nor willing to resolve my issue... I was not only blamed for my glasses being broken, but accused of knocking them off myself and causing their breakage. I challenged the manager; when one gets their haircut they tend not to move, but the manager was still defensive and blamed it on me. Finally it was agreed she would talk to her stylist and call me back to "verify" my story, but after two weeks I have not heard anything. It is shocking and I can't imagine what would happen or how a customer would be treated if an actual hair styling mistake was made. Customers beware.

Anyway, what i got was a mediocre hair cut and style, carried out by a girl who clearly wanted to go home. She rushed the whole thing and frankly i could have done better myself.
