It's great as often it's no more than 15 minute wait until the next one. Coming home it's good but they usually run late by 5-10 minutes during peak times. With the proposed changes it won't be as convenient as there will be no bus to go directly downtown. Hopefully they won't make the change. The buses can get busy but I often can get a seat and the person beside me respects each other's space. Going downtown for just over $2.50 one way is ok. Often the drivers will give a transfer for 2 hours not the 1.5.

Gayle and I returned to the Via Rail Edmonton station as part of our 4 day train trip from Toronto…read moreto Vancouver. The station remains in the middle of nowhere. We did walk over a mile from the station to find some wine to purchase and we did notice a family (who was also on the train) schlep down to the same street to find a McDonald's. Gayle and I were happy to get back on the train, relax, and wait for it to leave the station. That didn't occur until after bed time. I really like Edmonton, but this isn't the part of town to experience what it has to offer. Admiring its skyline from a distance was a small comfort.

I f'ing HATE this station. It is the most POORLY planned station. It's the only station on the south side with a park and ride (yes, a crappy park and ride), but let's assume that draws even MORE riders. In fact, any transit users who lives in Southwest Edmonton, and even as far as mill woods will likely use this station to get to and from work or school. So why, WHY, dear planners did you only put in One. F'ing. Stairwell. One stairwell that exits to the transit/kiss'n'drop/parking. Hundreds of people get off the train during peak hours. We get the choice of three stairwells to go up to the pedway. Once we all get across the pedway, and everyone is in a rush to get to their bus, these hundreds of people are now herded like cattle into a 3 foot wide stairwell. Maybe it's 5 feet wide. THE ONLY SET OF STAIRS exiting. I actually sent an email to the City last year complaining about this because it's only a matter of time before one rushed person knocks someone down, causes a domino effect, and a lawsuit for the city. And by the way, the City acknowledged they are aware of the issue and aren't sure how to fix it. There is PLENTY of room to have ANOTHER STAIRWELL exiting north. But what do I know... I'm just a Yelper ;) Rant. Over.

Century Park is an LRT station in Edmonton. Here are the pros and cons…read more Cons... - The parking at this LRT station is iffy. If you're coming in the morning at like 7am, then may god have mercy on your soul. You'll only get a parking spot if the flying spaghetti monster touches you with his noodly appendage. Basically in the morning unless you have a prepaid monthly pass you're not parking at Century. The afternoon and evening parking is easier to come by. - The parking lot itself is horrible. Not only is there a lack of spots, but the lot is gravel and gets super muddy in the spring. Watch out for giant potholes. - It's an above ground station, meaning it can get a bit cold in the winter. There are heaters, but in -30 it doesn't do a lot. You can stay inside by the stairwell, but it tends to get a bit crowded. - This station gets busy, especially during the going to work and going home hours (about 6am-9am and 3pm to 6pm). The trains are quite crowded during these times...if you can avoid going at these times of the day I would - There is an escalator going up from where the bus stations are (you have to take the stairs going down), but there's about a 50/50 chance the escalator will be out of service/broken and you'll be taking the stairs. - ETS is a little bit pricey $3.20 for a 90 minute ride, $9 for an all day pass. I don't use the LRT enough for a monthly pass. I recommend buying a 10 pack of tickets (usually available at local 7-11 stores) and you'll save a bit of money per ride. Pros.... - This is the furthest LRT station on the southside, so for people living on the southside, or coming in from the airport (there's the 747 bus hookup) or Leduc it's nice to have this LRT. It wasn't too long ago that you'd have to drive or take the bus to the University Station, because that was the furthest south LRT point in the city. - The trains are usually on time, at least from what I found (and I took the LRT from Century a few times a week when I was in school). There's always the information screens that let's you know when the next train is coming and what direction it's going (Clareview or NAIT). - The parking (when you can find it) is free. - There is now free wifi at the station. Nice. - There is also a little concession/coffee stand in the waiting area for the buses. I've never been there, but it's a nice touch. - And speaking of buses Century Park LRT is right next Century Transit Centre where there are buses that head out to other neighbourhoods on the southside, as well as to the airport, and Leduc (during certain weekday hours only). - The station has a pedway connecting the transit centre side (buses) to the LRT, as well there is a pedway going across 111th to the west side of the street. Nice particularly during winter. - The Kiss 'n Ride signs make me laugh. I think it's supposed to be "you give your s.o a kiss before he/she rides the lrt to work," but when first seeing those signs my mind went somewhere else...just saying. Century Park is all right. I wish the parking was better (I live in Leduc and I can't always take the local bus to the LRT) and the price wasn't so high, but for the few times a year when I need to take the LRT then Century Park is my go to starting/ending station.

You can access the main bus transit station and the mall from one pedway and the other residential neighborhoods via another pedway. During busier times of day there is a convenience store within. Generally it is a pretty useful lrt station if you want to access the mall or bus station or any of the surrounding neighborhoods. It is clean and well-maintained.

This is another one of my personal favorite stations along the LRT line even though it is one of…read morethe busiest. They do a great job of keeping it clean and I like that they have one of those little convenience stores in a good location so it doesn't interfere with the flow of foot traffic like the one at Century Park where the line often cuts you off from the bus schedules. I also like that because it's so close to the mall it's easy to just use the washroom in Southgate before walking over and catching the train which saves me a trip into the sometimes dirty ETS washroom. There isn't as much room as I would like indoors to hide from the elements during winter time but people who come through this station are generally pretty respectful so I don't worry too much about being bothered or having my personal space encroached upon. I wish all of the stations were as good as the one at Southgate.

Last year was the first year of the C-Line buses between Leduc and Edmonton. Last year my big beef…read morewith the transit was the schedule, more times needed to be added in order to accomodate all the people that need to travel between Leduc and Edmonton and vice versa. Having switched campuses this year I was initially worried whether I'd even be able to use the C-Line, but they added earlier times in the morning. Plus they have a last bus leaving Century Park at 6:10pm, which means I don't have to worry about missing the bus when I leave the school at 5pm (before the last bus left at 5:30 and I never made it back to Century Park before then). I think more times during the day (perhaps once per hour from 9am to 4pm) as well as some service on the weekends, is still needed. I'd love it if the bus ran in the evening, maybe until 10pm too, since I have a 6pm-9pm class next semester, but I doubt that will happen. The route has changed a bit, and more stops in Leduc were added which I think is great. There are a couple new stops on 50 Street, and 50 Ave. My only gripe with the new stops are they're still not listed on the ETS website or on the buslink line, meaning you can't figure out exactly what time the bus is supposed to be there. Hopefully they will get added to the database soon. The C-line no longer runs to the airport, but ETS has their own airport shuttle. Besides the C-line route to the airport was a little ridiculous. From what I understand it would go from Century Park in Edmonton to Leduc (and all the stops) and then before heading back to Edmonton would go to the airport. So anyone trying to get to the airport would be on the bus (from Edmonton) for about an hour. It'd be great if Leduc could have public transit to the airport, but I get that this isn't a necessity. The other great change about the C-line is the price. I believe regular tickets are the same price, but students (with a U-Pass) now only pay $1/one-way. Since I only have classes three days a week I'm only spending $6/week on the C-Line, which is a lot better than spending $45 for the month pass like I used to. Improvements could still be made, but things are a lot better than they used to be.

Even though I no longer reside in Leduc I still use the 590 occasionally to go and see my mother and it's nice to see it has evolved over time. It's unfortunate they cut the service out to the airport and residents are now stuck using overpriced cabs yet again but lack of demand has the tendency to cause things like that. It's nice to see they have expanded the service out to Nisku as it will open up job opportunities for people but I find when I come in from Edmonton that having to do the Nisku loop can make the trip seem EXTREMELY long. I think they almost need to increase the size of their bus fleet and offer separate service to out there and increase the frequency of the trips. They still have a long way to go with this as it is still only a peak hour service and we aren't living in a world anymore where everybody only works Monday-Friday 9-5. I think they could draw people in for weekend service that want to check out the malls in Edmonton but as far as I know it is only something that has been discussed and not planned to be implemented. Also they desperately need some stops into the older neighbourhoods. It has always been a sore spot for me personally that residents spoke of needing public transportation for years but the city only implemented it after more high income neighbourhoods were built. I may be an Edmonton resident now but my heart belongs to Leduc. I love my city and have a number of great memories growing up there. I hope for the implementation of better service and for it's continued growth and prosperity.
