This is the latest one, and probably one of my favourites. Obviously they look after me and provide me with all kinds of important medical care, but this place gets three things right that so many others have failed on. Firstly, making an appointment. As wonderful as the NHS is, there will always have to be concessions made in trying to provide care for everyone. I've known first hand the frustrations local practices feel in trying to provide adequate care for their patients while dealing with strict staff and budget constraints. The mark of a good surgery to me is how well the staff deal with these frustrations. The doctors, nurses and receptionists of the Buckingham Terrace Medical Practice deal with this admirably, and whilst I'm sometimes faced with delays when trying to fit an appointment around my working life, they always go the extra mile to make sure I'm seen and sorted in as quick a time as possible. Secondly, they do a great job at monitoring patients, and if I get too lax or too busy with my life, they always provide a prompt and friendly reminder that I really should go see my doctor. Knowing I'm being looked after in such a fashion is a huge weight off my mind. Finally, the website is an excellent resource, with all the information you could need about the practice and it's various clinics, and a helpful staff on hand should you have further queries. Ordering repeat prescriptions via the website is also a lovely touch in an increasingly time sensitive world.

It seems I lucked out! In a medical practice, there are a few things I look for; polite, friendly staff, ease of making appointments, availability of appointments and good one-to-one patient care. They get all of these right. With an ongoing health issue, I've been to the doctor more in the last seven months than I have in the previous ten years. So the fact that the staff are friendly and flexible, the GPs do their best to forge a relationship with their patients, it's a few minutes walk from my flat and they offer handy things like repeat prescriptions online and text reminders of appointments, Buckingham Terrace offers everything you'd want in a modern, patient-focused practice. I only have good things to say!

Baillieston Health Centre has been my local doctors since I was a wee yin…read more A lot of work has gone into this medical centre in the past few years, with a total refurb that has been kept up to scratch over the past 5 years or so. It contains several different departments, including more than one GP practice, a dentist, nurses stations, physiotherapy, and a pharmacy. There are also a number of services that travel through, including greengrocers who pitch up once a week and sell fresh produce inside the centre. The MacKinnon practice has one of the best GP appointment systems I've ever experienced, wherein you call up before 9am on the day to make an appointment for the same afternoon. In the same turn they have an open clinic until 11am every morning, so that you don't have to wait weeks to get an appointment and can pop in whenever you need. It can be a pain if you accidentally sleep past 9am and miss out on getting an appointment, but it beats waiting 4 days to get some medication for that tonsillitis or whatever is doing you in! All in all, it has been vastly improved in recent years and continues to be a good health centre for the local community.

This health centre houses 2 local doctor's practices, McKinnon and McGlone. It was built in the…read more1980's so the building is fairly modern. It was refurbished slightly in 1997 when a new entrance was created and a car park facility was added in spare ground adjacent to the surgery. It is centrally located in the middle of the Baillieston area and houses a pharmacy within the building. They offer additional services such as a nurses station, money advice centre and a fruit and veg co-op to promote healthy eating. The surgery is open from Monday to Friday and has a half day on a Tuesday. They have a late surgery on Thursday evenings for non urgent appointments.

I hate talking about people like this but the smell that was coming from her and the attitude that i was greeted with first thing definitely made me never want to be a patient there. This is not the standard that you expect from a private hospital, needless to say i wont be back and I would not recommend it to anyone else. The space is utilised through a good layout and clear displaying of all their bits and bobs. This is further aided by the extremely pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable staff. I've been in more than a few times, and each time there were was an adequate number of staff which meant to you got quick, thorough and very professional service. Although, I usually only brought aspirin, strepsils and the like from here for those hungover/flu filled days when I was working half days as a Sales Administrator further along the road. This allowed me a bit of a walk home and on the way I would pop in to pick up some comfort food from Sainsbury's (or Somerfield or whatever it was then...) as well as some nonprescription drugs from this place. Ideal and always worked its magic in helping me feel that little bit better.

I will never forget the time I was so hungover when I woke up I actually thought I was dying. On top of this I had the flu, it was awful, thinking about it now makes me feel queasy! Luckily this pharmacy was only a stones throw from where I lived at the time, so I ran down and bought everything and anything to ease the pain, walking home I felt like a walking medicine cabinet. The Vicks, paracetamol, Halls Soothers, cooling patches, herbal tea and tissues helped my slightly self-inflicted suffering and I am ever grateful to this pharmacy! That was about two years ago, after one of those nights where you say "I'm never drinking again..." and surprisingly I don't think I did for about a year afterwards and even now when I can still remember how bad I felt. Recent data released shows that every year they treat on average 80,000 people with 20,000 receiving chemotherapy and another 6,500 receiving radiotherapy , it's reassuring that we have so many dedicated professionals who have taken there vocation to another level and I'm my mind Cancer should not be a word to be scared of, it has been proven time and time again that this terrible disease is curable and the doctors think they will have it contained to a very high level in the next 15 / 20 years if not earlier than that and are confident they will beat it all together all I can say is I feel lucky to be living in these Islands and thank goodness for the wonderful National Health Service.

It serves a population of 2.6m from the entire west of Scotland so it even has patients from the Western Isles. The Beatson is Scotland's largest cancer centre and the second largest in the UK. Each year, the Beatson team sees more than 8,000 new patients. It has tons of modern facilities including a cinema, a hairdresser and beautician and aromatherapy and massage rooms.

Whilst it still has a very clinical feel to it - as a hospital should - it's considerably less oppressive for people who aren't big fans of the hospital environment. The ground floor hosts the day surgery, information desk and other public areas such as the cafe and toilets. The majority of the clinics are on the upper floors and are accessible by lift or stairs. The staff on the information desk are always friendly and very quick to answer any queries, which is comforting in this sort of environment. Stobhill also houses the local Minor Injuries and Out Of Hours clinics, which are accessed from a separate entrance round the side of the building. One of the big issues regarding Stobhill is the lack of parking. There are three car parks - one at the main entrance, one across the road and one slightly further down the hill - and they are pretty much always jam packed any time after 10am. I'd usually recommend arriving in plenty of time in order to get a space!
