Here we have a small but efficient local hospital. It has an A&E department which gets quite busy…read moreduring the summer months, and is a vital part of this hospital. The first thing you notice is that it is very clean and not as busy as the larger hospitals like Treliske in Truro - less hustle and bustle, it all seems quite calm, which is a refreshing change. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. There is an outpatient department which is always very busy as they hold lots of different clinics each day. There are 2 medical wards, a surgical ward and a day case unit. If you get hungry while you wait you can use the cafe/restaurant which serves some lovely food at reasonable prices. I had a day case procedure 2 years ago (had my gallbladder removed) so have first hand experience of the service, which went very well. The treatment I received was exceptional - it was almost like being treated privately. All staff were very attentive, efficient, friendly and most importantly, reassuring - I was very nervous! - I needn't have been. There have been threats to close this lovely little hospital down - I sincerely hope this never happens as they provide a vital service to a wide area of the population down here - the main hospital is in Truro, which is 25 miles away - not so easy to get to when you're ill.

Dr. Olobia correctly diagnosed an issue that had already been misdiagnosed by three different doctors at various urgent care facilities in the US and the UK. She was able to recommend a simple treatment that has completed solved the problem, and I am so grateful. The NHS - lack of funding and long wait aside - really came up trumps in this instance.

I have been to this hospital a few times and it's so unorganised and I have not had best care, it…read moreseems to be about getting you off the list as quickly as possible, luckily another hospital looked into my health concerns and agreed i needed an op and soon . Had great service. My husband was also under RDE and trusted them and said he was impressed. He was waiting for a angiogram. But It turned out he needed a quadruple bypass and soon. They kept writing to us and asking us shall we take you off the list it's only for a stent at the worst and it's not really necessary. Luckily we stuck it out and said no we want the angiogram and stent if needed as my mother in law died of heart problems. After RDE realising it was much more serious after doing the angiogram, they referred us to Plymouth and who were amazing and said my husbands treatment was not acceptable, he could have died while waiting and was waiting 102 weeks for an angiogram Plymouth had him in within three weeks and at the stage of his bypass they were still waiting for paperwork and health history from RDE so we told them everything they needed to know and they had no idea my mother in law had died from heart problems and heart problems are in the family. The RDE hadn't told them. This is totally unacceptable, they are playing with peoples lives. Even after complaining we haven't heard anything from them whatsoever.

Car parks bit pricey, need to take plenty of change with you if you want to park on site. Operates a park and ride service (current cost about £1) with buses running every 12 minutes or so from a secure car park, from 7am to about 9.45pm Monday - Friday. Covers all medical areas (except for Psychological) Very good website with information on all wards. Gives information for patients going into the Hospital. Gives recruitment information including listing all available vacancies. Gives information on contact details. Smoke free site - no smoking permitted anywhere including the car park and grounds.

I attended a medical conference at Derriford Hospital this week. Coming from London, I was…read moreinterested to see how large hospitals have to run in more rural settings. I found ample parking at 8.30 in the morning though I gather from local friends that it can be more challenging. I understand that there's a free park and ride scheme but I never saw any signs for this. Parking for a whole day costs £8, cheaper than in London hospitals. The signposting to the postgraduate centre was a bit mazy from the front of the hospital but the staff were helpful in offering directions. The acute medicine course was interesting and informative with a nice range of speakers. The venue was comfortable. Quite an impressive setup here in the south west.

Derriford hospital at plymouth is one of the good hospitals in Devon known for good quality staff…read more It is a huge hospital with various floors and different wards like quality control, heart ward where normally patients with their heart problems are accommodated. Within the hospital there is facilty of restaurant where you can easily get sandwich, burger, rice and other food. Same is with the restaurant at 2nd floor but there you can have more food options as you can get a thali there mostly consisting of indian food which i like a lot. The staff at hospital is very friendly, knowledgeable and supportive. When ever you need them they are always available.
