Whereas the room we were in is private with use of kitchen space, the bar is right outside as ar the bathroom facilities. Toni runs two sessions, one on a Monday at 9.45, and another on a Wednesday at 10am. Each session runs for about an hour and then there is snack time. Each session costs £5, payable on the day - so there is no obligation to sign up for a string of classes, as is often the case. The Monday session can be quite busy and is a reasonably established group of kid, so if you are just going along to try it out it might be worth attending the Wednesday session instead. Having said that, Toni is very flexible so you can attend either. The session starts with some group play, a little bit of singing and some warm up exercises. Then we usually go on some sort of imaginary journey - to a farm, for example, to feed the animals. It's all 'acted out' so there are very few props - apart from a bubble machine and some 'fishes tails' which make an appearance at some point and which the kids love. This takes care of the first 20 minutes or so, and then Toni introduces the story for that week. Each story involves an animal of some kind, and the really cool thing about this class is that there is a craft element - the kids and parents will each make an animal out of materials provided. Once the kids each have their own animal, Toni tells and acts out the story. This is a great class and attracts a friendly bunch of kids and moms (and a few Dads). It's well worth checking out

I Recently visited my family in Birmingham and on Monday took my grandson to Toni's Tots Drama…read moresession, Don't know what I expected but thought it amazing. Great fun the kids obviously love it and Toni has such a good rapport with them. They get their warm up exercises and rush around but when then Toni starts to tell them a story all is quiet, after this using lots of imagination they then act out the story. When I was there the children were given all the materials necessary to make lion heads with the help of parents, grandparents etc. After all this activity we then had refreshments, tea, coffee, juice, biscuits. I am sure that on so many levels the children benefit enormously from these classes as well as having great fun. Judith

In areas that haven't recently been done up, it looks a little old fashioned, and in areas that have, it looks quite clinical, so not an amazing atmosphere in here, but very cheap drinks and plenty of entertainment on offer. I don't think I've ever been there apart from such events, but I've always enjoyed the place when I have been. The function room is reasonably-sized and fits probably 100-200 people, with an appropriate bar and dancefloor and a good layout for buffets etc. There are a couple of other rooms, presumably a bar and a lounge, though as I say, I've only ever really been into the function room. I get the impression that the bar and lounge crowd don't take kindly to non-regulars, but I could be wrong on that. Prices are on par with other such places. There's a sizeable play area out the back so any daytime functions tend to find the kids playing football out there, though this may actually be a car park. The area that the club is in is a bit dodgy.

These events are mostly of the tribute bands and cabaret acts. However once a month is the Stirchley Community Market which brings a whirlwind of different products and services to Stirchley United Working Men's Club. You can buy homemade cakes, local meat products, unique jewellery, fine cheeses, vintage clothing and second hand vinyl. To add to the fun, there's also a dj and local folk acts playing. So in conclusion, Stirchley United Working Men's Club is pretty much the same as most working men's club, apart from once a month when it becomes something extraordinary.

If you've ever been inside a working men's club then you'll know what to expect. If you haven't been inside a working men's club then you simply need to watch an episode of Phoenix Nights. Usually - i.e. when the market hasn't taken it over for the afternoon - you'd need to either be a member or be signed in by a member to enter the building, so visiting when the market is on is probably your best best. Inside there is a fairly large bar / function room with enough chairs and tables to comfortable seat 150 people (this is a guess - it may well be more) and there is a large bar that is well stocked and cheap as chips. There is a small stage in the corner that is used during the market by DJs and acts. Off from the main room there is a smaller bar that I've not yet been in. Overall the place is friendly, clean and welcoming and if you live in the area it's probably somewhere you should have a look at. You may even want to consider joining it as it provides a welcome alternative to The Three Horseshoes
