Do you " taste" the history on the back of your tongue as you walk through the old buildings? Over the years I've literally worn out the missions in San Antonio and Goliad as well as others areas. There is also a Mission San Juan Capistrano in San Antonio. This one is a beautiful example and has an especially interesting story relating to the alter. Hand carved in Barcelona for a church in Los Angeles,it was shipped there but never installed. Instead,this beautiful hand carved piece remained in storage for 100+ years. Eventually,it found its way into the light and installed in the Mission San Juan Capistrano. The ceiling had to be raised to accommodate its unusual height. If your within a days drive,this is a must see.
