A church with the mission "Reconciling people to God and reconciling people to one another," that models it with a Black pastor and a White pastor who equally share duties, that has a multiethnic leadership team and a multiethnic worship team, that emphasizes the calls both to personal relationship with God and service/justice in the world--what could be more important and in these days gospel=good good news? My husband joined a small group before I moved, a group that welcomed me in right away (had dinner with them the day after I moved). My daughter and I attended the women's retreat 3 weeks after we moved and the women there love Jesus, were authentic AND fun. And the church meets at Digital Harbor High School across the street from our new home. Is there a church out there in B-more that's better for us? Maybe 1-2% better. But I'm not going to look for it!

Very beautiful church on lovely old grounds. The choir is a professional choir of about 15 or so,…read moreextremely beautiful music and organ. The service is what some people refer to as "high" but actually all the beauty seems to make it all the more personal in this space. The congregation is usually about 20 - 30 people, but sometimes gets to double those numbers. It's very peaceful, and solemn with shafts of sunglight beaming onto the altar space. St. Johns worships in a true Anglican style, and so much feels like of another time - until the Rector, Father Parker shares the sermon just standing in the aisle and just talks to the people, quite friendly and sort of personally connected. Some of us talked about being very moved by the sermon, and then with all the beautiful vestments and music it's quite compelling. Dont be fooled by the luxury of it all, it's quite intimate. I would say the service is focused, but not so serious that one leaves without a great feeling and a good message. The people there are very nice, and friendly. It has become my church, so perhaps I'm more biased now, but these were my impressions about 15 minutes after my first time at St. Johns.

Beautiful Church…read more SITREP Came to this Church for my baby sister's Memorial (she passed at 44). It's a quaint, picturesque church in a quiet rural area upper Maryland northeast of Baltimore (about 20 miles up the road). It favors a more majority Spanish-speaking congregation, but it makes the worshipper / family member feel very welcome as in the case of our family gathered here for the memorial. THE SETUP The church is nestled into a slight, rising hill, where the main sanctuary sits atop the all-purpose room in the basement. Put another way, the basement is actually level with the parking lot at its main point of entry), then the stairs from the basement multi-purpose room entrance rise with the hill to the entrance of the sanctuary. The memorial ceremony was held in the sanctuary which could easily sit 100, the pews facing the front raised lectern of the speakers. Then we headed downstairs to the multi-purpose room for some refreshment and food for the wake honoring my sister. THE LOWDOWN A very beautiful, quaint house of worship that truly permits worship, reflection, and togetherness.
