I was at Swarthmore College for the first time recently for a wedding. (This is going to be written…read morestrictly about my experience on the campus, and not about the academic/daily aspects of the college.) The setting is just beautiful: from the moment we entered the local neighborhood and drove through the mansions in order to get to the campus gate, you could tell we were in a special place. The old brick buildings are set between a plethora of greenery - fields, towering trees, shrubbery and flowers. The ceremony was intended to be outdoors, but the rain location inside was a great substitute for the intimate joining of the couple. Lighting, music, etc. all worked really well. The reception was in an old cathedral-looking building (all religious symbolism has been removed). The food and service was amazing... all fall-themed for the season, and very hearty. All of the staff that I spoke to were very friendly and accommodating. Overall, my first experience at Swarthmore was enjoyable and memorable. :)

They had all the guests convene for a 20 minute slide presentation to explain U o P's basics. When that was done, we were broken into smaller groups and a student took us around campus . Our student showed key areas on campus while enthusiastically interjecting his personal stories about his experiences on campus. This is a compact, medium-sized university that seems to have a lot of diversity. Students/staff need a key card to get into the buildings on campus. The buildings are beautiful and there is green space throughout. It was a good first impression.

This school has been the worst experience for my daughter. Mr. C the gym teacher has choked one of…read morethe 3rd grade students and was bullying and teasing this child. He encouraged the other students to join in with him to tease this student. My daughter told me what has been happening and so I told the principal what happened. The next day he continued to work at the school. Nothing was done about his abuse towards the student. Since my daughter told on him she became a constant target of his aggression and anger. Yelling at her and belittling her. Last week Mr.C threw a basketball towards my daughter face. She was standing up against the wall and he threw the ball violently near her and caught the ball. While yelling at her. My daughter started to cry and because of her crying he yelled at her some more. I told the principal in a meeting and she not only protected the teacher by saying she knew him for 5 years. The issue of race came into play because this is a black girl and the other girl he choked was also black. Just trying to find the source of his anger. The principal flys in a rage and tells me that since I questioned the race issue that my daughter was expelled. Don't send you child here unless you want your kids to be abused and unprotected and discriminated against by the principal Mary Rose Worrilow and Mr.C. They are disgrace to all Christians!

I have read so many mixed reviews about Drexel University that I felt I must comment. My daughter…read moreattended Drexel and received her bachelors degree in interior design it is currently working on a Masters. She worked like a dog, putting time, effort and energy while others were off having a good time. When it came time for co-op, she applied for 10, got eight interviews, and four job offers. Her co-op experience was with a very prestigious architectural firm in the old (historical) section of the city. She loved every minute. Prior to her graduation the same firm contacted her to inquire about her plans post graduation, and offered her a job which she accepted. That alone is worth the cost of the tuition. She worked hard to get where she is and I think that has made all the difference. Lastly, everyone squawks about how expensive Drexel is but I truly can say as the parent who paid the tuition that they are no worse than any other private school anywhere. Additionally, they gave her a decent amount of grant money but I wrote them a one page letter and asked if they could do better and they gave her $40,000 scholarship. I am not making this up. Also, I paid her bill online and never had any issues whatsoever. Incidentally, I have a son who attended Penn and I found them to be both stingy, greedy, and very very difficult with the financial aid. I swear they must've had people mining through the massive amount of paperwork we had to submit looking for ways to avoid giving him any type of financial aid whatsoever even when we had two children in college at the same time. Drexel is not for the faint of heart but for those who are willing to work hard and want to have jobs when they graduate.
